Little Touches of Fall

Welcome to the Transitioning From Summer to Fall Blog Hop

hosted by Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home.

If you are following the hop in order, then you were just visiting my friend Judith of Botanic Blue and her decor never disappoints.

I have to say, that as much as I love "hopping" with this group of bloggers,

I was reluctant to join in this time because, as you can see, my days are still quite full of summer.

But just after I said no to the hop, I noticed the changing sun in this picture I snapped after a day of kayaking last week.

And then I noticed this odd bloom on my schefflera tree and I realized that even if I am not ready for fall, it is definitely coming.

My transition began in the guest room with the schefflera blooms - both orange and purple and any other orange flowers I could find in the garden.

All of a sudden I was on board with making fall changes, simply by adding yellow to my existing decor.

Silk sunflowers in a bag on the door welcome guests.

The table setting mimics the colors of the butterfly and coreopsis painting on the wall.

Wooden bread boards

add warmth to the plate racks.

I kept the orange and yellow theme going in the hallway and like the front door, I used faux blooms.

These realistic faux blooms make me smile and I don't have to replace them weekly.

 Breakfast al fresco

is made special with a favorite set of vintage plates

and the view is bright and colorful.

The best part of adding these little touches of fall is that other than a few plants, I simply used what I had on hand.

Now it's time to send you on to one of the sweetest bloggers, Katie of Let's Add Sprinkles.

Don't forget to check out all the other blogs on the hop for fall inspiration.

  1. Welcome back my friend. Your cottage is beautiful as always Carol. Your skies are beautiful blue and sunshine. Loving your touches of yellow and gold.

I'm ready for fall because I'm a cold weather girl, I know not the norm.

Be posting my early fall bit by bit starting this week.

    Enjoy your Monday

  3. Carol, You know I love that old typewriter. I am glad you spruced it up too. Oh I will used fake flowers and the pumpkins I made from old sweaters...do not have to worry about anything spoiling. I love the changing of the trees each season, but I have to say Fall there is so nice. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  4. Love it all. I love how you make each space so special with a different floral arrangement. The view of the garden from you table is where you would find me all day. Gorgeous.

  5. I'm so glad you decided to join in, Carol! I couldn't imagine our hops without your gorgeous flowers. I can definitely relate to it not feeling like Fall at all. It probably won't feel like Fall until late October or early November in Florida. The pops of yellow are such a great reminder that we can still celebrate all the changes that come from one season to the next though. All the special touches you've gathered here are really pretty! Hugs, CoCo

  7. So glad you thought of the yellow Carol. It works perfectly with your beach cottage and looks so happy! And I totally agree, the best part is using what you already have. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your fall - when it actually gets there! ;)

  9. Carol I can see why you were hesitant on changing the season to fall...that itself is a huge transition. I just love your home no matter what season you have it decorated in. You have the coziest and welcoming home!

  10. Carol, your cottage is all-season ready. It's those little nuances you're noticing - the sun's position, the berries, and the saturated colors of the garden flowers - that help a Californian embrace the transition. You always do such a wonderful job of making your cottage cozy, I just love it. Steve's painting (I assume) of the butterfly/coreopsis is perfect. Happy September.

  12. Carol,
I never tire of seeing your home, your beach, and your garden. Using yellow with blue is a perfect early fall transition for a California home. The coreopsis and butterfly painting is a wonderful summer-to-fall piece for anyplace in the world, but beautiful for a sunny California home.

  19. Good morning Carol!

I love the transition to fall. I could have started to put things away on Labor Day, but on Monday, I did absolutely nothing. Nothing. School is requiring so much energy that I'm spent. Oh how wonderful though, to fluff up the nest and simply enjoy it.

  21. Everything is just perfect in your cottage by the sea.
I use all fake flowers, too....no worries with them. Working on a front door wreath right now...fall decorations are my least favorite and I don't do much of it...I am loving your yellows with the orange so I am off to buy some pretty yellows.....xo

  25. I swear the color of the air/light changes and we just can't hold back Fall. Here in Chicago we had no summer until the 4th of July. Lovely pretty touches you have added. And, the light alone ---I think gives interiors a bit of a golden glow!

  26. Carol, I wondered if you even have Fall living on the west coast beach. But nature definitely knows more than we do. Bringing in subtle changes in colors in the flowers definitely signals a change in seasons.

  30. Carol, I'm so thrilled you decided to join in this blog hop! I love everything you share with your little home by the sea. We're already feeling cooler temps and seeing some changing leaves here in Michigan, unlike in other parts of the U.S. I think you home is decorated perfectly for early fall in CA.

  31. I love the subtle changes, Carol! It mimics the real transition of summer to fall, which, isn't all that noticeable but definitely starting to change. Here on the east coast, that means the trees are losing their bright green color, fading subtly, and the angle of the sun is definitely different. Fall's coming, and I love it, but I always hate to see summer leave.

  32. I'm so glad you decided to join us, Carol! Yes, fall arrives at different times for all of us, but that's the fun of it...seeing how we gently transition:) You know I always love how you switch up your typewriter! I love how you tucked golds and oranges throughout your artistic home; beautiful!

  33. You fall touches look lovely, Carol. It's kinda hard decorating for fall when we are just getting our hot weather, right? But, I'm actually sitting here, with the fan blowing in my window, thinking I'm a bit chilly! Nice! So glad to see you at Tuesday Turn About!
