I'm a Copy Cat

The other day I saw a beautiful vignette using blue dishes and it inspired me to gather up some of my blue dishes for a vignette.

And fortunately, I actually had blue and white flowers in the garden.

Just like that, an inspiring photo created a new look in the entry.

I thought it would be fun to create vignettes or just "look alike" photos of some of my favorite pics.

First,  I had to make a run to Trader Joe's where I went a little crazy buying flowers, but these days flowers seem to be my main indulgence.

This photo shared on Instagram by Benita of Chasing Quaintness and  @chasingquaintness inspired a mantel change,

but no Trader Joe's flowers were used here.

I'm loving that I my garden is filled with cutting flowers this spring.

This gorgeous photo shared by June of Laughing With Angels and @laughing_with_angels is all over Instagram and you can see why - every single photo June shares is awesome.

I don't have that sweet little bench so my copy cat photo is slightly different and it won't stay as a vignette because those flowers will end up in various photos throughout the day.

I love the simplicity of this vignette shared on Instagram by Brittany of @frontporchtraditions

so I created my own version on my dining room table with a favorite April Cornell enamel bowl.

When I saw this driftwood garland shared by Darrielle of D.D.'s Cottage and Design (dds_cottage_and_design on Instagram), it reminded me that I started a driftwood project over a year ago.

Yesterday I dug out all the supplies and made a driftwood heart.

I don't have an armoire with the fabulous detail of this one shared by Sandra of @vintageticking,

but I'm happy any time I can find a fun way to display my old quilts.

Anita of Castles Crowns and Cottages and @les_dames_dabord on Instagram is a fabulous photographer and I had to try to copy at least one of her gorgeous photos.

I will never come close to Anita's prowess with a camera, lighting and styling, but I like this display I created on a dining room shelf.

I didn't create the vignette I had planned to copy with these hydrangeas despite the fact that I  literally played with my camera all day and completed few of my chores - now it's time to get ready for my "date" with Steve.

I never got to these flowers either so I guess that means there will be another "Copy Cat" post coming soon.

But, I couldn't stop before I showed you the vignette I copied after seeing this gorgeous shot Michelle of @the_darling_buds posted recently.

It reminded me of the pink Bauer pitcher I have been planning to mail off to Linda of A La Carte and the tablecloth I have been planning to mail to Rita of Panoply - I will mail them soon and explain what has taken so long.

And I leave you with a question, am I the only Copy Cat in blogland?

  7. You are not cop catting when you had your special touch!
I love this idea of using inspiring photos.
And isn't June the greatest gardener and photographer in the world?

  8. No ~ you aren't the only "copy cat" out there!!

And I never feel guilty, because once we add our own special touches, it isn't really a copy any more!!

  9. What a fun post and what great copy-catting! I do the same but my results are usually quite pitiful in comparison!

  10. What a fun post, Carol! I don't realy consider it "copy catting" but rather inspiring. I love the way others inspire me with their photos and ideas. I've learned so much from my blogging friends, you included. I think I need a trip to Trader Joe's tomorrow. All out of fresh blooms here. '-)
Thanks for inspiring me with this post of both your inspiration photos and those of others.

  12. OH CAROL!!!!!!!!!!!! I was enjoying all of the beauty (love June Stockton's photos), and here I scroll down to see my ironstone! THANK YOU! I am so very honored and flattered that you liked this photo! And I love your "copy cat" version!!!!! Are ya lovin' this white canvas upon which you can add all your fabulous blues and reds? You and I both have the same textured plaster on our walls, so the look we share is sooooo "California", isn't it!

All of your vignettes are wonderful, and I so love your blue against the white. That color blue just charges me up. I have to tell you about this photo of mine....a few weeks ago, our neighbor gutted his kitchen for renovations. I looked out the window to see what all the noise was, and as I saw them hauling out the white beadboard paneling, I ran out there and asked if I could have a piece! They gave me a perfectly sized piece and now I use it as a backdrop!!! But I have plans to paint our kitchen white this summer and if I can get him to do it, I'll have Ruben put up some white beadboard in our nook area. However, he doesn't know that yet. Am I the only sneaky wife in Blogland? :)))))))))))

  17. Carol! Wow, what gorgeous FLOWERS and photos (and tablecloth! really, that is super awesome of you!). I'm always hesitant to cut my flowers, but I really should - they're so beautiful. You must've spent the whole day cutting, styling & photographing - that all takes time! And yes, I think you've touched on one of the points of social media - we all get inspired, and the wheels in our minds start turning - "hey! I can do that, I have those things"...and off we go. I love being inspired and getting that mental charge to want to put my own spin on an interpretation of something I've watched or seen.
    Happy Saturday.
ps - the last time you mentioned me in one of your posts, I went online to source one of those cute MC stocking purses! pss I found it. :)

  19. You are a very good copy cat!! Most of my "ideas" are copied from others. I like to think that they are inspired copies! I do add my own personal style to them as you did and they usually come out fine. Every one of yours turned out beautiful and your pictures are amazing. You are quite the photographer!

  20. Are you kidding? I think that's half the fun of Blogland. Some of your copycats are prettier than the original. Love all the flowers. Your blue and white vignette looks as though it should be in a magazine. Great ideas here!

  21. It surely is wonderful how we are so fortunate to receive so much inspiration from one another!

I see so much creativity and beauty and think to myself "I want to do that too!)

I am particularly happy today as our Sacramento family is flying in for a 10 day visit! We are going to Waco on Tuesday where I hope to be able to copy many things.
Thanks so much for sharing this with the ladies at TOHOT!

  33. You are the most talented person in BLOGLANDIA. I adore every single one of these arrangements and am amazed that they are YOUR flowers. Oh, my! What a treat to have these lovelies in your garden. I am deeply impressed.

How are you, my friend? I hope well. I know it's been a loooooong while since I visited or posted, but I have been up to my eyeballs in renovations. I have done work on several houses, but this? This has really been something. I came up for air today when I had an old blog friend get in touch, and I wanted to drop by to see you. You never disappoint. Your posts are as colorful and beautiful as ever. I have always loved you and your blog.

I wanted to thank you, too, for the well wishes on my last post which I am ashamed to admit is months and months old. The stress started, and I had to unplug to get better even though I had every intention of returning. I'm feeling some better now, but I am sans a computer as my IPAD bit the dust. On hubby's now. I hate to think how many devices I have killed over the last ten years! ;-)

I'll be back someday. And I will.

Sending much love across the miles.
