A New Look Around the House

I took down "Christmas" on December 26 so you would think that by January 4, the entire house organized and back to normal.

The entryway is one of the few spaces that is finished.

The vintage cabinet is organized and sporting a fresh new look on top.

I gathered up glass containers and filled the large ones with balls embellished with numbers and letters.

The interior also got an update and for a change, I am leaving the cupboard doors open.

Some simple changes were moving the flatware from large pitchers to smaller galvanized tin buckets and storing napkins in my Pfaltzgraff Pistoulet tureen.

This metal shelf in the dining room gets updated more frequently than any other piece of furniture.

My grandmother's silver cake platter and wire stars from Christmas are still on display joined by bits and pieces of galvanized tin.

My favorite green and yellow table in the dining room also has a new look.

A box of quotes and a pitcher of flowers grace the top of the table and a stack of colorful books adorn the bottom shelf.

I bought the box filled with blank cards at Anthropologie a few years ago

and started creating alphabetical quote cards.

I am not finished with all the letters so completing the quote cards is a 2014 goal.

8 days have passed and slowly, but surely I am creating a new look around the house.

  1. You have been much more productive than I have been! Your home looks great. We just put away all of our ornaments yesterday and it was a a bit sad. I am working on a theme for my mantel that totally reminded me of you! You have everything that I need to pull it off ~ that makes me laugh a bit. Primary colors are just as necessary as neutrals. I am huge on neutrals, especially green. Green is an all season color and all season color is all I can afford right now! It is still a blessing though.

  7. That shelf with the galvanized treasures? MY FAVORITE! Carol, I love to follow your footsteps around the house. Your energy to change the scenes is what I love in a teacher, a learner, a homemaker, anyone! Change is good, no matter how small or grand.

No matter what you do in your arrangements, LIGHT from the sun always graces your cottage. That light is the best of decorating tricks!

    Happy Sunday dear one. Anita

  9. I love the interior of your cabinet with that red chair! I will be packing away the rest of Christmas and making a natural transition into wintertime today. I have been down with a virus so I am a bit behind! Your lovely transition has given me just the amount of incentive and inspiration to get going!

  10. Your home makes me smile. It is so light filled too. Our house is long and dark and I wish it were brighter inside. An addition blocked lots of light. That blue cabinet is Heaven. Pinning it!!

  11. It's always a huge process getting the house back in order after taking down the holiday decorations. You've got a good start with your newly organized cupboard (which I'd love to own) that looks so colorful and inviting in your entryway. I've got to get busy and decorate my tabletops and mantels. It looks like we've moved out of our house right now. Bare bones! Your colorful images warm me right up, Carol!

  14. I know I have said this a hundred times, but I really want to see where you keep all those darling trinkets you decorate with. I have a 3,600 sqft house and feel like I don't have that much storage. You use your space so efficiently and I love every inch of it.

  23. Love the look Carol. I envy how organized your chest is. I am in the process of taking down my Christmas decorations and hope to have everything completed by tomorrow. Had a bout of COPD so that put me behind a couple of days.
You are so creative and I love how you have your silverware stored. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the changes you make in the house.
    Have a great week.

  34. Your home looks wonderful! And very sunny! I still have all the decorations up from Christmas. We both have been sick since we got home and have spent most of our time either laying around or shoveling snow. I have a sewing project to finish before I allow myself to take down the decorations. It hasn't motivated me yes though!
