Red...Yellow...Green

I am forever moving furniture around and changing things up.

My fall break has consisted of projects I have wanted to get to for weeks.

First thing Monday morning I painted this bench.

When I bought this cabinet,

I moved the red bench from the hallway and replaced it with the cabinet.

I put the red bench in our spare room, but a red bench next to a red sofa was overkill.

I was going to paint it yellow, but I like how this bench in our living room turned out after a neighbor suggested adding a yellow stripe.

My goal was to paint the bench yellow with red stripes, but after painting the yellow over the red on the top, I knew that wasn't the look I wanted.

Steve likes it, but I knew I wouldn't be happy.

I remembered seeing a wonderful green chair on someone's blog.

The color was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Antibes Green.

Yesterday, I painted the bench green.

Today I sanded it and was actually happy that I had both red and yellow on the bench because both colors show through after sanding.

I have never used the ASCP wax and I love the way the wax makes the color pop.

And, I like the way the green table picks up the green from Steve's baseball paintings.

The green bench may be done, but the results are causing me more work.

I painted this table last summer taking it from red to blue, but I didn't have the wax.

Tomorrow I am going to sand it a little bit more and add the wax.

And, I now realize what is wrong with this white cabinet I painted in ASCP Old White.

I finally understand when I read blogs where people have painted furniture several different colors to get the desired look.

I am going to repaint the cabinet with yellow and then blue paint - maybe even a little red.

I don't have any green left.

Then I will paint it white again and sand it down for the other colors to show through.

My break is nearly over and I have a Saturday field trip next week, so it will have to wait for the Veteran's Day weekend.

I can't wait to see the results.

Just when I think I'm done...

We have a full house.

KC and JP are in town for a "family" wedding.

The couple aren't really family, but close enough.

KC met the groom in pre-school and the bride in kindergarten.

She is in the wedding and we're all looking forward to the special event.

We rarely have all four of us in our little cottage together.

Thanksgiving we are often away.

Christmas we always go on a family ski trip and make sure we rent a big house.

KC arrived on Thursday night in her typical fashion.

JP always refers to her as Hurricane KC.

She brings clothes -
 for hanging out
for going out
for working out
and
for washing.

The trail begins in the entryway spreads through the house and seems worst in the bathroom.

One bathroom, 4 people, and KC's bag full of beauty is definitely a crowd.

With every room full of people and paraphernalia, I was wishing I had a space to tuck myself in for a little peace and quiet.

As I was straightening up before bed, I walked through the entryway and stopped to think about what a wasted space it is.

I like the look of the cabinet full of linens and little shelf, but what if I put a chair in the entry?

If I swapped the red bookcase from the kitchen and the red cabinet from the entry, I could put in a chair.

I have to make changes on the sly.

As soon as Steve left for his tennis game, I got busy.

In the kitchen, the bookcase held bowls and pitchers.

In the entry, it can hold more than kitchen items.

I moved a wicker chair from my workroom to the entry.

I love how it looks from the dining room and

I love how it looks from the kitchen.

I put in books for 'looking' while I sit and watch Steve cook.

I added some of my favorite pitchers,

and Steve added sand dollars we found on the beach yesterday morning.

The cabinet is in the kitchen awaiting a butcher block top,

some touch up painting, and some new shelves.

Steve got home from tennis and didn't even notice the change immediately.

Other than being upset that I moved some dishes in "his" kitchen, he likes that I will be able to visit while he cooks.

Last night, I sat in my new little reading nook watching Steve make dinner, writing this post and looking for ideas for kitchen shelves.

When I put the chipped cabinet in the hallway last Sunday I thought I was done, but if I'm honest,  I know that will never happen.

Chipped To Perfection

Last week was beyond exhausting.

I had only 1 night at home the entire week

and

I had a weekend conference in Los Angeles.

When I got home yesterday, all I wanted to do was sit on the sofa and read.

When I got up this morning, all I wanted to do was be outside enjoying the spectacular day.

After a walk on the beach, a casual paddle out to the ocean, and a relaxing lunch in the garden, I decided there was time for another favorite pastime - shopping.

I have been looking for a cabinet for the hallway.

As much as I love the red bench, it serves no purpose.

With no time for shopping, I was looking on-line and found a few possibilities at unfinished furniture stores.

I checked my local unfinished store, but they weren't open today.

I have been craving a stroll through my favorite local shop, American Home & Garden.

I decided that it was worth a look.

Tucked in a corner was this little chippy cabinet.

The color isn't right for my palette, but that can be fixed.

In addition, I found a wire basket and a key on a ring and still came in under budget.

The red bench is gone and in its place is my new chippy cabinet.

It is amazing that the color of the cabinet actually changed when placed in the hallway.

With my favorite Bleecker Street door painting hanging above, it takes on the blues of the door.

I'm in the process of putting up my Halloween mantel so all of my number items were available.

Now, I have time to decide just what will be stored in the cabinet.

Fall break is less than 3 weeks away.

That will give me time to live with the cabinet and decide if I want to paint it or leave it as it is.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky to find just what I was looking for.

But, after the week I had, I deserve it.
