A Feminine Look

The guest room is the one room in the house where I indulge my femininity.

The color palette is essentially red and blue, but in softer tones.

In January I posted about my 2018 goals and painting the white door was on the list.

This door shared by Maria of @dreamywhiteslifestyle had me dreaming of a blue door.

In that post, 2018 Goals, I said I was going to use either Louis Blue or Provence,

instead I combined Pure White and Provence

to create my own color.

I found the chalkboard shelf in the attic and kept the decor simple with dried roses in vases and paper flowers on top.

I have been choosing colorful roses lately because they dry so beautifully.

The orange roses in this pic are now dried and they look just as pretty as they do here.

I restyled the shelves in this cabinet using clock faces both real and faux.

I'm debating on replacing the ladder with a chair, but I do like using the ladder as a bookshelf.

I used dried roses and eucalyptus to decorate one of my wire wreaths

and hung it on the tall cabinet next to the bed.
.

In my post, Panoply, I showed the cute hankie my friend Rita of the blog Panoply had sent- it is almost a perfect match with the blue cabinet.

and it looks so cute made into a pillow and sitting on the bed.

I'm happy with the new look in the guest room

from each view.

The best part of the project is that when a holiday comes that calls for a white door, I can just turn the door around.

I can't wait to have Miss Violet visit for two weeks next month - I hope she likes the feminine changes in the guest room.

Although Lulu isn't so excited - Miss Violet happens to be little chihuahua!

I'm Hooked

All it took was 1 little can

and I was hooked.

My first project was an old table

followed by an old stool.

This morning I decided to attack the top of my sewing machine base and since several people have asked about Saltwash, I thought I would show you how easy it is to use.

Saltwash is a powder you can add to any paint and I prefer to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

I wasn't sure how much I would need for the table top and I probably could have used a little more paint.

The paint mixed with Saltwash goes on quite lumpy.

My first two projects I mixed the Saltwash with Pure White and used the darker color as the top coat - this time I used white as the top coat.

When shot from above the table, after sanding, the green pops through the white,

but from a side view, the table top looks white.

I like how the table top turned out, but whatever my next project is, I will use white as the undercoat.

I'm having fun using Saltwash - it's simple, quick and gives a fresh new look in the house and garden.

Do it already!

In my early days of being on Pinterest, I came across this quote.

I decided then and there, that I would actually follow through on ideas that I had pinned.

Recently, I created a board on Pinterest titled, "Do It Already!" and I have been trying to do one or two of the projects each week.

Yesterday's project was to alter this chalkboard

to look like this sign I pinned from  Town and Country Living last Christmas.

A couple of years ago, I painted a mirror with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and turned it into a sign.

For the last year, the BEACH sign sat in the garage until I turned it into a chalkboard for Aylin and Joshua's wedding.

One week after the wedding, the chalkboard went nautical for a baby shower.

Getting the right shade of green was the most difficult part because the green chalkboard paint I found online turned out to be a mint green.

Writing on this chalkboard was easier than the others because I gave myself lines.

I didn't want to copy Jennifer of Town and Country Living completely so I separated my upper and lower case setters and added numbers.

The chalkboard will be used at Christmas, but I wanted to show my sister who arrives for a visit today.

Flash cards dress up the chalkboard and a box of quotes seemed appropriate for the vignette.

I need to finish creating one quote card for each letter of the alphabet.

But first, we have to finish redecorating the kitchen which is inspired by this kitchen on my "Do It Already!" board.

The shelves are hung, but both the walls and the shelves need a fresh coat of white paint.

The pendant lights arrived yesterday - now we have to wait for the electrician to rewire the ceiling.

After my sister's visit, our pantry door will get a facelift of a full chalkboard.

Steve has to okay every change I have make in his kitchen and he likes the idea of a chalkboard to write his grocery and To Do list on.

We are off to San Francisco next week to visit our daughter and one more item on my "Do It Already!" board will be completed because we have reservations at Chez Panisse and we are all excited to finally eat there.

So, I am curious about my blogging friends - are you on Pinterest and do you do anything with what you have pinned?
