Seeing Green

Lately, I have been loving green.

I got home from work last night and saw a package waiting for me on the table.

I ordered some numbers on-line from BHLDN and some art supplies from Paper Source so I thought the box was from one of them.

But, I was wrong.

I had forgotten that I had won a Giveaway from Primp and, in the package was this sweet little green heart basket.

With the weekend ahead, I stopped at one of my favorite shops, American Home and Garden

for a bit of shopping therapy and some ideas on how to display my sweet little basket.

It seems like months since I have been in the shop.

My friend Kathee of Chateau et Jardin writes on her blog about the many changes in the shop.

Jennifer Grey of The Old Painted Cottage just opened a booth in the shop.

As usual, AH&G was filled with wonderful eye candy and green was everywhere.

I love the green cabinet with the number tags and wish I had a place for the great little green ironing board.

I have a little wooden box that I want to paint and it might just end of with a number painted across it.

The little green desk is so cute, but alas no space.

Nor is there space for the green butcher block or dresser.

A vintage garden chair reminded me of a chair my dad used to sit in out in our garden when I was a child.

One long table made from a door and two sewing machine bases would be wonderful in a creative work space.

Chippy green shutters would be totally fun, but our walls are filled with Steve's art which leaves no place for the shutters.

I love, love, love the cast iron sink filled with ivy.

It would look great hanging on the exterior wall of the house in the garden.

Until Steve's shoulder is out of a sling, no house projects will be happening.

A table which mounts to the wall and  just two legs to hold it up would fit right into my hallway.

There were so many things to look at, but I had two limitations on my shopping -

I only had change for a half hour on the parking meter

and

I was in Steve's little car so I couldn't buy anything big.

I settled on three simple things

The number knobs are for a little box I will paint soon.

The parsley stake will go in the garden tomorrow.

And I have no idea what the green piece is (for flowers? ) nor do I have an idea what I will do with it.

But, I thought my little green basket needed a friend.

As I was finishing my purchase I saw the woman behind me was buying a cloche and remembered that I have been wanting one.

I took one last stroll through the store to see if I could find a small cloche, but no luck.

One of the shopkeepers said she has a small one at home and will bring it in tomorrow.

Do I dare go back tomorrow with all that green calling to me?

Chipped To Perfection

Last week was beyond exhausting.

I had only 1 night at home the entire week

and

I had a weekend conference in Los Angeles.

When I got home yesterday, all I wanted to do was sit on the sofa and read.

When I got up this morning, all I wanted to do was be outside enjoying the spectacular day.

After a walk on the beach, a casual paddle out to the ocean, and a relaxing lunch in the garden, I decided there was time for another favorite pastime - shopping.

I have been looking for a cabinet for the hallway.

As much as I love the red bench, it serves no purpose.

With no time for shopping, I was looking on-line and found a few possibilities at unfinished furniture stores.

I checked my local unfinished store, but they weren't open today.

I have been craving a stroll through my favorite local shop, American Home & Garden.

I decided that it was worth a look.

Tucked in a corner was this little chippy cabinet.

The color isn't right for my palette, but that can be fixed.

In addition, I found a wire basket and a key on a ring and still came in under budget.

The red bench is gone and in its place is my new chippy cabinet.

It is amazing that the color of the cabinet actually changed when placed in the hallway.

With my favorite Bleecker Street door painting hanging above, it takes on the blues of the door.

I'm in the process of putting up my Halloween mantel so all of my number items were available.

Now, I have time to decide just what will be stored in the cabinet.

Fall break is less than 3 weeks away.

That will give me time to live with the cabinet and decide if I want to paint it or leave it as it is.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky to find just what I was looking for.

But, after the week I had, I deserve it.

A Constant State of Change

It is amazing the difference the new slipcovers  made in the living room.

Going from floral to white brightens up the room and calls for more white.

I went up in the attic this morning to see if there was anything white to be had - shopping at home saves money!

I found the sewing machine cover from my grandmother's old treadle sewing machine.

The base of the treadle machine sits next to the sofa.

I replaced the wood notions chest that has been there for awhile with the wood cover.

I used some of the same items for the vignette, but decided that a little visit to American Home and Garden was in order.

My blog friend Kathee who writes Chateau et Jardin has a space at AHG and she was in the shop today.

Her little area of AHG is so welcoming and it is hard to decide what to buy.

I have a major plan for my garden that involves moving an old bench under the tree and decorating it just like this bench.

I love the old scale, but I don't have a place for it.

I will gather up some of my old keys to add to a vignette.

The spool with red, yellow and blue chipped paint drew my eye, but I didn't plan on buying it.

Kathee made me an offer I couldn't refuse, so I ended up with these little lovelies.

And, I snapped a few pics for ideas and wish list items.

I have so many old baskets in the attic - I must do this with one of the them.

My shoulders and back are still aching from bending over my sewing machine.

You can't tell in this photo, but the height of this table would be perfect for sewing without bending over.

I must make some of these number tags!

Back at home, I finished moving things around a bit.

The fleur de lis provided just a little added height to the scale.

The little white pedestal bowl was filled with letters and added another touch of white to the vignette.

I am happy with the little change.

My neighbor Judy thinks I should add a yellow stripe down the length of the red bench.

It is worth a try.

If I don't like it, it is easy enough to go back to all red or make a move to all yellow.

Tomorrow we have an appointment out of town and I have coerced Steve into leaving a little early so we can stop by Bungalow Antiques Shop to pick up some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

It will be just a quick trip into the store for yellow and white paint.

I wasn't sure what color I wanted to paint this cabinet - most readers suggested white - but I was favoring red like this beautiful cabinet painted by Kim at Savvy Southern Style.

The white slipcovers sold me on white for the cabinet.

I have less than 2 weeks until school begins so I have to get busy.

Will I ever stop changing things around?

No - things will forever be in a state of change.
