30 Days of Creativity

I began November with a personal challenge - 30 Days of Creativity.

I made more than 30 items over the month, but I express my creativity in many ways and not everything involved "making".

In my quest to see the bottom of my sewing cabinet, I tackled a pile of projects.

I made pillows for the guest room,

for gifts

and to decorate the house.

I made a bunch of stockings out of drop cloth scraps

and sent many of them off to friends.

Scraps of fabric

became ornaments to decorate a little tree in the entry.

I painted a sign for the garden ladder and then the "making' stopped for a few days.

I took this cabinet from the living room

and reunited it with its base in the entry.

I had fun creating a pleasing display on the shelves.

That yellow and blue soup tureen is finally getting a spotlight.

The tureen is part of the set of Pistoulet dishes that the awesome Kris of Junk Chic Cottage won from a Pfaltzgraff giveaway and gifted to me.

November's creativity

led to the house being completely decorated and ready for Christmas.

And so, December will be a month to simply enjoy the season.

But, I just have a few hours left in November to finish embroidering this table runner for my next door neighbor.

Then, I can kick back and do nothing!

Diary of a Dilly Dallier

When I got up this morning, my plan was to take this cabinet from red to blue.

But, while eating breakfast, I noticed that the flowers in the centerpiece on the table were wilting and needed to be replaced.

First, I needed to change the table runner

and create a new centerpiece.

With that done, I decided that I should go ahead and set the table for dinner.

Setting the table seemed to take longer than usual

because I decided the yellow bowls needed embellishment.

The table setting was finally finished, but that cabinet was still red -

I should have painted the cabinet next, but the elements for the centerpiece were stolen from my little red wagon and I needed to something about it.

Instead of creating a new vignette with the wagon, I decided to move the little blue table to the garden house.

As you can see from this photo, I had to move lots of things out of the garden house.

By the time I finished the rearranging, it was noon and the cabinet was still red.

Normally by this time, we would be heading to the beach with Lulu, but we had a carpenter building a gate by the garage and were tied to the house.

Instead of taking a walk, I grabbed the Federal Blue milk paint and tackled the cabinet.

I am happy with the change, but Steve hates change and messes so I quickly got the cabinet back into place - I have to wax the cabinet tomorrow.

By 4:00 p.m., my morning goal was complete and Lulu,

who had been waiting all day, got her walk to the beach.

In the end, I wasn't a dilly dallier after all because that would mean I don't accomplish things.

And it's a good thing that I'm not a dilly dallier because the carpenter says I need to get paint on the wood right away.

"Garden Room"

Two months ago, I talked about moving this cabinet into the entry and said I wanted to paint it.

Last month, I showed you a picture of the cabinet painted, but I was not happy with the "staging" of the cabinet.

I still need to sand the cabinet, but finally the entry makes me happy.

The star of the entry is one of Steve's paintings, Flowers and Rust, which is 4 feet across and 5 feet tall.

It's an old painting of the garden and the only thing that remains the same from that painting is the rusty watering can.

The green box, my grandmother's Coats & Clark sewing box, sits on the cabinet holding flatware.

Steve always hates change, but he likes this one because he knows right where to put the flatware when he unloads the dishwasher.

The bird candle holder was a gift from one of my college roommates and I am so happy that I found a prominent place for it.

The green of the box and the yellow of this birdcage blend beautifully with the colors in the painting.

I have no idea why I have started a mouse collection - maybe I should blame Vera of Rowhomes and Cobblestones who always shows us the sweetest little mice.

My excuse is that these little Maileg mice me smile.

I like the view of the "Garden Room" from the doorway and from the kitchen.

I don't know when I will get the cabinet sanded because my hand still troubles me and also because JP's wedding is just 11 weeks away -  I am in full "wedding creativity mode".

I leave you with a picture of "Little Lulu" and Steve in the "Garden Room".
