"Garden Room"


Two months ago, I talked about moving this cabinet into the entry and said I wanted to paint it.


Last month, I showed you a picture of the cabinet painted, but I was not happy with the "staging" of the cabinet.


I still need to sand the cabinet, but finally the entry makes me happy.


The star of the entry is one of Steve's paintings, Flowers and Rust, which is 4 feet across and 5 feet tall.


It's an old painting of the garden and the only thing that remains the same from that painting is the rusty watering can.


The green box, my grandmother's Coats & Clark sewing box, sits on the cabinet holding flatware.


Steve always hates change, but he likes this one because he knows right where to put the flatware when he unloads the dishwasher.


The bird candle holder was a gift from one of my college roommates and I am so happy that I found a prominent place for it.


The green of the box and the yellow of this birdcage blend beautifully with the colors in the painting.


I have no idea why I have started a mouse collection - maybe I should blame Vera of Rowhomes and Cobblestones who always shows us the sweetest little mice.


My excuse is that these little Maileg mice me smile.


I like the view of the "Garden Room" from the doorway and from the kitchen.


I don't know when I will get the cabinet sanded because my hand still troubles me and also because JP's wedding is just 11 weeks away -  I am in full "wedding creativity mode".

    teeehee.....I see Miss LULU taking advantage of the LOVE that just oozes out of you both! I swear, she knows exactly what she wants and what to do to get it. teeeheee

    Sunshine, color, sea air, creativity, ideas never idle, this is what I LOVE about you and your shares dearest Carol. I so hope your hand continues to heal and get back to function mode, because you have much to do! Eleven weeks away 'til the wedding? CHOP CHOP! Oh the fun.

    Again I say, you are so lucky to have your husband's art!! Most of us have prints and just copies of something pretty. You have the real wonderful thing!

    The mice are adorable and maybe I need to collect them too.

    Lulu just couldn't be any cuter.

    Love your entry table. It's neat to me that you have the flatware in that box.

    The new color looks great on the chest! I think it blends with your decor better than the black. Love that giant colorful painting above it from Steve. You have one of a kind artwork in your house! i believe Lulu thinks she's a small dog! LOL!

    Little Lulu isn't very little is she, but she looks adorably cozy in Steve's arms, LOL
    I sure hope that your hand gets to feeling stronger very soon. Carol, your home is always such a delight, I never want to miss a single post that you do and having mice in your tea cups is a lovely little touch . . . they made me smile, too.

    I love Steve's painting and it looks assume there in the entry hall. I love the chest painted, it set off the picture so well and all the items that you have on it are perfect.
    So sorry that you hand is bothering you. Take care and don't over do. I know that you are so excited about the up and coming wedding - it will be fabulous.

    Great photo. However - "little" Lulu looks pretty big to me! :)
    Love your mouse collection. For some reason, I have a small collection of sheep on the windowsill above my computer. No idea why I started it, I just kind of like it. And since they make me smile when I sit down to work, I figure they must be a good thing!

    I am IN LOVE with this painting! I think this one is my favorite of Steve's that I've seen. If I had the $$ and the right place to put it, I'd be buying that painting in a heartbeat. :-) However, it is absolutely perfect in the space you have it and it's also perfect for your house. Perhaps you should tell Steve you're keeping that one and he's not to sell it! I didn't realize Lulu was so big until I saw this photo of Steve holding her.

    Yikes I'm late, but I'm here to soak in your spellbinding cheery cottage. OK, so I'm reading seeing your changes and suddenly my name is mentioned. Mice as in felted toys just are the cutest things and I am certainly enjoying seeing some mice enter into your cottage. Oh Carol I am smittened by Steve's painting ... please say you're keeping it, such an inspiration from your garden!

    I love your mother's Coats & Clarks box! I have my mother's very old jewelry box and have thought of painting it something pretty for so long. You've just provided the inspiration I need to do it. Lulu has really grown, she may end up taller than Steve :) Love his painting -

    11 weeks will go by fast. Everything always looks lovely, but your changing things is always fun. In my family we refer to this need to change things around as 'our Swedish tendencies.' Lovely to visit as always. Angels to you.

    Carol, so good to read a post from you. Steve's painting is fabulous, and loving your painted chest and the vignette. Did you remove little drawer sections from the button cabinet? I have one similar, but the drawers have rows of individual sections to hold different buttons. Love the idea of using this for flatware. Perhaps I can remove the shallow sections.

    Ha, ha, I am laughing because 'Little Lulu' is not so little anymore. Love the photo of the two of them! Steve's painting is gorgeous and what a wonderful thing to see as you enter your home. How could it not make you happy? I have loved that green sewing box from day one! Great idea to use for flatware storage. But what really amazes me is that your hubby unloads the dishwasher. lol! I don't think mine has ever don that. Thanks for sharing at SYC.

    I love the cabinet and the painting...also love your sewing box that holds your flatware. Cute little mouse...I have a little mice collection and my favorite one sits in a white ironstone saucer in my living room. The rest of my mice collection is in my sewing room.     Steve's painting is gorgeous, and I love the orange colors in it. The vignette you've created is really pretty and makes everything compliment each other The last two nights have still dipped into the low 40's and is killing me not to be able to move my greenhouse plants outside. It must be great having summer all year!

    I really feel like you have brought the garden into the house, with Steve's wonderful painting.
    I love the different elements, the candle holder, the cage, the cutlery drawers.......oh, and of course Steve and Lulu.
    Sorry to hear that your hand is still giving you trouble, I guess it's an area of ones body that doesn't really get a chance to heal properly because it's hard to give it proper rest.

    Wow! Your husband's painting is BEAUTIFUL! It's perfect in that spot. I love the painted cabinet and how you decorated the top. Everything is so pretty! My mom sprained her wrist last week (the one that was operated on the same time as yours) and the doctor put her back in a brace for 3 weeks... wish she would just rest it but she's stubborn.
