My old classroom stool . . .

When I was cleaning out my classroom after 24 years at the school, I debated on whether to take the stool with me.

I painted the stool with checks and stars about 15 years ago and had it in the corner of the dining room holding a plant.

When we put in the window seat, there was no room for the stool so off to school it went.

I am glad I didn't leave the stool behind because yesterday I came up with an idea for it.

The stool looks so big in the garden because I had to put it on top of the table to keep Lulu away.

A quick coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Greek Blue and some sanding turned a has been into an updated model.

I love how the white, yellow, and blue show through after sanding.

When I updated our bedroom just 11 days ago, I did not have a little puppy who might knock over a vase of flowers.

The stool sits next to the bed and dried hydrangeas that don't need water make a more practical arrangement.

A basket full of magazines sits on top and books sit on the rungs of the stool.

An old stool . . . a little paint . . .  a new look.

I haven't decided what to do with my green chair.

That is a project for another day.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

  2. I love it! What a wonderful transformation! I love the color and it looks great in the room. I love the use of the wire basket for magazines. I keep seeing wire baskets but resist buying them because I can't think of a good use for them. I love this idea! Your blog, crafts and home are always so fun to see and so inspiring. :-)

  5. I can see quite clearly that you were and ALWAYS WILL BE, a teacher.

To take a thing of beauty and help to transform it is what a teacher has to do, whether it's for a lesson, a subject, or a person. I LOVE how this stool looks with the Greek blue (what a fabulous color) but then to put it as a table in the room is brilliant.

    I LOVE FOLLOWING YOU!

  16. Carol, you always have JUST the right idea for each of your projects and your classroom stool, with its new Greek Blue and older hues is no exception! It almost looks like a little sailboat is showing through in one of the pics!:) Pretty and practical! Thanks for sharing!

  21. Good thing that you rescued your stool! I remember when one of my cats was a kitten; he was c-r-a-z-y. He was so wild and knocked over anything that wasn't secured.

  24. I love the blue and thanks so much for the idea of using it for a nightstand. I have one bought at Walmart that I'd never get rid of because my mom bought it for me. Yours turned out fantastic.

  25. Hey you!!! Holy cow is that AWESOME!!!! It is rustic and beautiful all at once!! And I have never thought to put a tray in a stool like that! Brilliant!!! I am laughing because I seriously think that my boring old stool got left behind when I took my leave with my first...to think I could have rocked something like this out! Now I know!!! Have a lovely week!!!

  26. I love your ideas! I would never have thought of using a stool for a bedside table but it works brilliantly and looks really nice.

  27. Where did you find the Annie Sloan Chalk paint? I've looked for it in this area and cannot find it. I love the finished stool. Perfect. As always, I enjoyed your post. You're so creative.

  28. Look at you, clever girl!! Always coming up with new ways to use something that once had a different function! Being a magazine collector/hoarder, I love the metal basket holding issues to peruse while deciding on whether it's time to get up in the morning, or not! I haven't ventured beyond the neutrals in AS paint, but I love seeing others use it. Such a pretty color and perfect for your home!

  29. That really turned out neat, Carol! Yay, YOU, for retiring after 24+ years of teaching. You seem to be filling your time beautifully.
I must be one of the few people left who have not tried AS paint. I really like how your stool turned out with it.

    fondly,

  30. Sweet. I love the stool being used as a pretty little resting spot next to the bed. You are so beautifully creative.

  31. Great idea for the stool and it looks perfect right there! I just love how you have the several different items displayed on it.

Now all that you need is a kitten. It could jump into the basket and bat the hydrangeas around, torturing Lulu who would want to play with the kitten...

    :)

  36. That Greek Blue is so beautiful! It looks great in the new bedroom decor. I have a new kitten that is driving me crazy knocking things over. But animal cuteness prevails...

  37. Nice change for the stool and the location. Now like how you used the rungs to hold the books.
