As I read some of my favorite blogs this morning, I was inspired to write a post - one I had planned to write earlier this month, but life got in the way.
Earlier this month, Steve, Lulu and I escaped to the beach - pretty silly for people who live at the beach,
but this little guy was our motivation.
KC and her family live a 6-7 hour drive from Ventura
so we made plans to meet in Capitola which is just a 2.5 hour drive for them with little Andy.
It was a 5 hour drive for us (had to stop for Lulu to run around) so we arrived late on Thursday and got in a moonlit walk.
KC, Jake and Andy weren't arriving until Friday afternoon so I did something really fun.
I met up with the Darrielle of D.D.'s Cottage and Design who I follow daily on Instagram - @ddscottageanddesign - at the flea market.
I bought a few things - my favorites are a bowl and pitcher I found for just $10.
I never tire of looking at Darrielle's house on IG so I forced her to take me there after the flea market.
It was fun to see this chippy door on her porch because she introduced me to the woman who sold it to her.
I got the grand tour - you'll notice a lot of green throughout the house.
Darrielle has great style and she turns chippy forgotten pieces into valued treasures.
I was a totally rude guest
snapping photos
right and left.
It was fun to see, in real life, things I have admired in her Instagram posts.
I love how she incorporated fall into her beachy style with pumpkins and flowers.
An old stool and watering can look beautiful filled with seasonal greenery.
I have loved her old tub for years - why didn't my old house come with a claw foot tub?
Look at the great green cupboard reflected in the mirror
and the awesome job she did refinishing this dresser used to hold the sink.
Just to let you know that I didn't stalk Darrielle the entire weekend,
we visited a few shops she said were "must sees",
walked all over Capitola which is full of cute houses

and ate at great restaurants.
But most important was spending time with our little guy who is full of life - it was good to get away.
Your little grandson is so flippin' adorable! Look at his little outfit! His little smile...he's a happy baby!

That looks like a wonderful trip! Your grandson is so cute, it must be so special to meet up especially with you living so far apart. Danielle' s house is fantastic too love her coastal style and the Halloween touches. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteI love the notion of "getting away" right close to where one lives. I am doing that this weekend, right here in my own home. I'm getting away in my studio, where Ruben just finished putting up some timbering to give my room a rustic touch of old world style. I'm getting away in the kitchen, to bake something lovely to celebrate fall.
ReplyDeleteWOW, WHAT A HOUSE! Carol, I love her bathroom with the aqua touches!
You look fabulous my friend. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
What a fun getaway. Your little grandson is adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great little trip, Carol. Your little guy is just adorable, so glad you guys could meet up. Darrielle's home is just so lovely, and you captured it beautifully. Love your pitcher/bowl find, and that moonlight shot is terrific. Yes, getting away is fun. Your itinerary was my kind of fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, happy getaway! Very cool that you got to meet a blogger/IG friend (and I love her house)...but best of all, was getting to spend time with your precious grandson! Oh my goodness, he is SO cute!
ReplyDeleteThe house is charming, especially that window above the white sofa.
ReplyDeleteWe live at the beach and escape to other beaches all the time, too. I guess we like sand! ;) Of course, our beaches do not come with delicious babies! And I adore DD's home. I have followed her for a long time. She has great style. How fun to meet up.
ReplyDeleteIts always wonderful to meet a fellow blogger and happy you enjoyed your day shopping with her. Well, you grandson Andy is more adorable with each picture you share.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful trip. Your little guy is so cute and I know you had a terrific time.
ReplyDeleteLove all the pretty home there. I looked at a couple of mobile home there. Liked the area. Maybe in a year or so.....
Thanks for this great post.

First of all, congratulations on your adorable grandson!!! I'm sure this is the first of many road trips to get your snuggle time in. Such a cute photo of you and Darrielle, too! I loved her blog, but she hasn't posted in quite a while, so I'll be looking her up on Instagram since I'm a huge fan of her decorating style, too. It looks like the 2 of you had a wonderful time together. So many lovely photos in this post, Carol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
