If anyone asks me what I do now that I am retired,
I simply say, " I take pictures".
Thursday an old high school friend (we're having our 50th reunion in a few months) dropped in for lunch - she is staying nearby for a few weeks.
I took photos standing by my garden house looking toward the back of the house.
I stood behind the table looking at the garden house.
I stood by the back fence and looked back at the house.
I stood behind the table looking at the garden house.
I stood by the back fence and looked back at the house.
I stood by the chaises and looked back at the fence.
I know, way too many photos, but it's fun to try different angles.
On Friday we headed north to San Luis Obispo to see our daughter, KC, who was down this way for a wedding.
We were invited to join in on the Welcome Wine Tasting event and I was so excited when we pulled up to Sextant Wines in the Edna Valley.
I was the designated driver and while everyone else was indoors tasting wine,
I was walking around with my iPhone.
It didn't matter which direction I was looking,
everywhere I looked there was something
for me to photograph.
I had a great time
doing what I love -
taking pictures.
And now, it's time for our walk and I will be sure to bring along my phone because I never know when I will see something worth photographing.
. . . . . . . . . .
You need to be taking photos too because it's time for another Garden Party and we hope you join in.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun how you start to see things differently once you have a camera habit? :)
ReplyDeleteKeep taking pictures they are lovely.
ReplyDeleteMerle...........
I always enjoy your pictures! Love the bikes on the wall. I take my phone with me on walks, too so that I can take photos. (Well, and also have my phone in case of an emergency too, of course!)
ReplyDeleteAnd you take great pictures - whether iPhone or camera! I do the same thing in my garden - all different angles (and times of day).

ReplyDeleteWell, these are just exceptional pictures! What a pretty place to visit. Love the bachelor buttons! Your little dooryard is the perfect place to have lunch. Your friend must have loved it.

Lovely pictures! It seems to be sunny and warm and I wih I could have lunch in your backyard!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya my friend. I see what you mean, I feel what you are feeling. My poetry is in words, my vision in photos. Now with school coming to a close (two weeks!), I am planning my photo shoots, but I'm unable to fulfill those visions at the moment. But there is nothing more relaxing than to observe the world, tell about it, show it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE YOUR PHOTOS!
You can't help yourself, can you ? and I'm the same way. It's sort of like seeing frames everywhere you look. The beauty draws you in and you reach for the camera. There are even more now as a camera (phone) is always in our pocket. :-) Enjoyed your photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteI do love your stunning photos...you are so good at it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of so many wonderful things! I laugh when someone asks me what will I do with myself if I retire early at 62 years of age!! I answer by saying that they apparently do not know me!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by and I hope our cold weather will be finished with so I will have some garden posts to link up!!
Hugs,
Deb
Beautiful photos. You have a good eye and I hope you continue to take photos everywhere you go.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
Hi Carol, your photos are always an inspiration. I am completely in love with the white picket fences in the front yards. We just got back from a week on Coronado Island and I just love the fences and the gorgeous flowering yards in the front of the cottages. I wish we could do that here. Maybe in our backyard.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking pics!!! xo
Never too many photos from you, I can't get enough! Re: San Luis Obispo, have you read any of Susan Branch's recent books (she spent her 20s in that town) - the books are SO fascinating, I couldn't get enough of those either ;) See her website (www.susanbranch.com) to see her life-story two-volumes ... and then there's another of her travels through England. I found all of them at the library but honesty, they're so good I plan to buy them from Amazon.

I find it so interesting that people must 'do' something. I am writing a blog post on the topic next week contrasting how in America we feel so compelled to be somewhere or to be doing something and in Greece it is just the opposite, there they can spend hours sharing coffee or watching the sea or working or whatever, but no one ever asks about 'what do you do?' or 'what did you do?' A great post, I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing we have in common, making pics. I enjoy your photography, it is always beautiful and interesting. Love your garden table setting, great photos…….
ReplyDeleteI think that's the perfect thing to do when retired.
ReplyDeleteOlá amiga, passei por aqui para desejar-lhe uma
ReplyDeleteabençoada continuação de semana.
Amei todas as imagens lindas e inspiradoras!
Doce abraço, Marie.
Keep taking these pictures, Carol. They brighten my day and inspire me to not only spend more time on and in my garden but to see the prettiness all around me!

ReplyDeleteYou can take all the photos you want because I'll always want to look at them....lovely photos of your garden.
ReplyDeleteand you take fabulous photos at that! I was admiring some of the angles you chose - great work!
ReplyDeleteI take pictures too and I love it! :) Your backyard and gardens are so pretty in the bright sunshine. We are slowly warming up here in the northeast (really slowly!). Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteKeep them coming, you really have an eye for it. they're all gorgeous pics! Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteCarol, your photos are wonderful . . . watch-out . . . you may have to come out of retirement, when the California tourist department wants to hire you for the campaigns :) I'm so glad you carry your camera everywhere you go . . . loving the photography :)
ReplyDeleteYou always take the most beautiful pictures, Carol.
ReplyDeleteI love those flying bikes!!
All lovely shots, and what fun to take photos.... Everywhere you look is beauty and a photo op! Same with me
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos, Carol, and you're doing what you LOVE, which is the best! All your pictures could be notecards, or on a beautiful calendar, or framed...truly beautiful and unique!
ReplyDeleteYou take such lovely photos, Carol! Your backyard is so charming and very photogenic. Enjoy your reunion!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I hope to have my garden ready to join in the party. It is just too cold to plant here right now. The rule around here is don't plant till after Memorial Day. It always holds true!!
ReplyDeleteYep you take photos and you take great photos. I really like the one with the bikes on the wall.
