A Whole Lot of Color

I have been a busy bee lately doing random things, but the common thread seems to be color.

I spent way too much time changing things in the entry

only to change things right back to the way they were.

I might have gone a little overboard at the nursery.

An old high school friend is in town and is dropping by for lunch today

so I have been working in the garden.

Baskets filled with flowers brighten things up

and later this week they will get planted.

Last week I brought an old ottoman down from the attic and made a cover for it to match the slipcovers.

Steve and I can both sit on the sofa with our feet up when we're watching movies now.

The ottoman triggered a series of changes in the living room, but I'm only ready to share the ladder

which is all decked out with my bucket collection.

Actually every flat surface in the living room received a fresh look, but I only managed photos of the ladder.

I'll photograph the rest of the living room updates after I find a place to hang the harpoon Steve gave me for Mother's Day.

I've been taking a lot of photos and the tulips my son and his wife sent me were a perfect prop.

Someone else thinks she's a prop too.

Now I need to get busy and start looking for ideas on how to set the table

and what to serve for lunch - I do know that we'll be eating outside in the garden.

I titled my post "A Whole Lot of Color", but I think I could also have easily swapped the word "flowers" for color.

  10. Can never have too many flowers! Love all the color in the baskets. I need to add some more color to the terrace. It's all just shades of green at the moment, though the front garden is bursting with color. The dy lilies are in full bloom, and their golden heads greet us as we come and go. I know your lunch was beautiful. Hope you'll share some photos.

  11. Good Morning Carol, Your friend is going to be blown away with your garden and no, I do not think that you can go overboard shopping at the nursery. I'm headed there today to look for a vine to plant in front of the well house. I am so impressed with your ottoman slipcover, I suppose you made the ones for the sofa too. If you lived closer I would try to hire you to give be a slipcover sewing lesson. I love the way you added the pipping . . . you are sooooooooooooooo talented. Last, but far from least . . . that harpoon . . . isn't it wonderful to have a husband that knows you well enough to look for a gift that is so special. It reminds be of the wagon wheel that my Steve bought me one year for my birthday. I say, "We are blessed with thoughtful sweethearts".
Have a lovely time with your girlfriend.
    Connie :)

  16. Everything looks so pretty and cheerful Carol! You've been busy haven't you? I wish I could sew, that ottoman looks amazing--and so comfy too. I've been meaning to stop by and catch up with you. Last week I flew back home and stayed with my parents. My Dad's resting heart rate had dropped to the low 40s and he needed a pacemaker asap. It was an exhausting week but everything turned out well-thank you Lord. And I'm back trying to get caught up with life. just went grocery shopping last night hahaha... So glad your rash is better maybe we can finally get together soon :)

  18. Carol, love so many things here - your new flowers and the riot of colors, those ruffled napkins (which I've seen before, but just sayin'..), Lulu & the tulips, and that bowl of cherries vignette is awesome! Do tell, why did Steve select a harpoon as your Mother's Day present? I do the same thing as you - spend a lot of time and circling right back to the way I had things before. That's a good lesson in, "if it's not broken, don't try to fix it".

  19. Lulu just doesn't quit making me LAUGH! She knows the camera is on, she knows she better take full advantage of the moment and JUMP IN! teeeheee

Carol! Your ottoman, I love it! And you made the cover? Did you use a pattern or did you "eye ball it?"

The cottage looks splendid. We too are changing things around in our garden. We planted some evergreens about 8 years ago now that have become SO HUGE that we are going to pull them out and replace most of them with boxwood. Our goal is to have a sea of boxwood to mimic those gardens in France. That plant seems to do well for us, and we're up to the task!

School is almost out. I want to spend every day in a book, with my camera, writing, gardening, just loving my part in this life.

  27. Oh my Carol, only you would love a harpoon for Mother's Day. Surely made me smile! I'm getting some of my furniture sand blasted and powder coated to match the wedding colors. Haven't gotten it back yet, so it will be a late gift. You know I love color as much as you. Love your buckets on the ladder. I only have two. Hmmm, may need to change that. lol!
    hugs,

  28. Hello, and so enjoyed this email...very comfortable, colorful and beautiful flowers. However, that wooden handled item hanging on door with the pointed edge, is it safe with your dear little dog....vibration it could fall off, open the door, same.... I too have beloved pets and am aware of hanging items too. Have a beautiful day and until your next email wishing you a beautiful journey.....dottie
