Moving furniture around the house . . .

In January, a neighbor asked if we could help him out by taking an old bench off his hands.

It has been sitting next to the garage, but this week it finally got a permanent home.

I can't believe how long it took me to move the bench to the backyard.

The first thing I had to do was find a new home for the enamel topped table.

After 17 years of living in this house, it finally occurred to me to put my grandmother's farm table in the kitchen.

Steve is loving the extra work space.

The patio has a new look

as does the kitchen.

The living room also got a new look - this cabinet came out of the kitchen to make room for the table and as soon as I can settle on a color, it will get a fresh coat of chalk paint.

But, it is difficult to think about painting when it is so gorgeous outside.

I will end with a great big THANK YOU for all the kind comments and well wishes about my hand problem.

My computer is back at home with a brand new screen and the time away from the computer helped a lot.

I see another specialist today and hope to know more about solutions.

  12. Your home is just so sweet and inviting. I love it all.

I can't imagine what it's like for someone as creative as you to have a hand that isn't 100%. Take care of it and do as the doctor says. :)

  13. Funny how the acquisition of one new piece makes everything else fall into place. That bench was made for your patio. But that little table couldn't have found a better spot than where you have it now! Of course it belonged in the kitchen, and it looks so cheery with the red striped bowl and all that colour around it. Great rearranging :)

  14. I love where you placed everything! It makes complete sense to use those pieces there too. I bet it's difficult to try to rest your hand. Guess it makes you realize how much use your hands everyday. I hope that you get some good recommendations from your doctor so you can get all healed up!

  15. So sorry you're having hand problems....I hope it's just too much use and will heal. I'm wondering how long it will be before you're painting that bench! LOL!
I adore your enamel topped table. That's the prettiest I've ever seen and love it with the shelves above. I "pinned" it to my kitchen board. Love your decorating.

  22. Hi Carol, I am so happy to hear that you are seeing a specialist today, I waited too long with my hand. If I had gone to a specialist I am told that my hand would be like new. There are so many nerves endings in the hands and unless they're a specialist, they really won't totally understand the importance, and as we get older, we do not bounce back like youngsters anymore. Your changes around the house are wonderful. Isn't it funny how bringing in one new item, means that every thing in the home has to move over and make room. I really like your grandma's table in the kitchen. It looks like it found a great new home there. Your Steve may never want you to move it again :)
Here's wishing you the best doctor visit ever . . . we'll all be anticipating a good report :)

  48. I love the way you have created the effect of a hutch with that table by going up the walls with shelving and using a basket underneath. My Granny had a table like that, but I think hers was white with red trim. Being the red lover I am, I really love yours red!

  52. I wish I'd been able to hang onto an enamel topped cabinet we had when I was a child, I guess I didn't appreciate old furniture enough then. The changes you've made are great and the bench looks so welcoming.
I'm glad the rest has helped your hand and hopefully you'll have some good news soon.

  53. Good luck at the doctor's appointment. I hope your hand is well on the way to recovery. I am so impressed by the changes you keep making. You are very artistic and have a wonderful eye. I can't wait to see what colour you paint your chest of drawers, though I think it looks wonderful in its original distressed off-white colour. I look forward to seeing what other changes you'll be making over the coming months.

  56. Enjoyed the tour and am now daydreaming about your lovely weather. Although it has warmed up a bit (20s & low 30s) here on the other side of the continent we are majoring in gloom today.

  59. Sometimes all a space really needs to make it feel fresh, even before paint or artwork or flowers is simply relocating furniture. You pretty home always looks so fresh and airy, regardless, but the changes you did make added that extra touch! I so hope your hand is getting better, Carol. Take care!!
