For Valentine's Day, Steve put the finishing touch on the little garden house - he bought a rustic wooden heart and painted it to hang on the outside wall.
To recap, I wrote about the building of the little house here.
To recap, I wrote about the building of the little house here.
I showcased the house in the garden here.
Finally it is time to take a look inside La Petite Maison.
First, I want to talk about the door - a donation from a wonderful friend and neighbor - that we left green on the inside.
The exterior of the door provides a vibrant pop of color to the garden.
I love this door - each individual pane of glass is beveled - I tried to get a close up of the door to show the beveling, but my photography skills don't do it justice.
An amazing feature of the house is the glass walls on either side which create an open feel to an otherwise tiny space.
Although more than one person can fit in the house at a time, it is really a one person operation so go on in and look around.
The left wall of the house is a perfect spot for my grandmother's sewing machine base - oh, why did I ever give away the sewing machine?
The base had been in the house with a glass top that I unfortunately broke, but I found this old table top in the garage and did a little sanding to distress it.
The little table provides a flat surface for small projects.
My father's old tool box sits on the back wall of the house and right now is holding all sorts of props I am collecting for my son's wedding in July - I am in charge of the seating arrangement table and the Candy Bar.
I found this old cabinet in the attic and it works perfectly on the right wall of the house to hold "stuff" - as you can see one shelf is still empty, but I have plenty more "stuff" to put in the house.
I am sure it will come as no surprise to you that I painted the shelves bright colors.
If you look at the top of this photo, you catch a small glimpse of the corrugated tin roof.
The nice thing about the little house is that my collections are grouped together and visible instead of crammed into any cupboard or drawer that has space.
Tomorrow I will be swapping out vignettes now that Valentine's Day has passed.
Maybe I will use numbers,
glass bottles
or possibly hands.
and the silly little mice KC bought me for Christmas look so cute on the blue shelf.
For now, the Valentine decor is balanced upon the little table, but when something comes out to be used in a vignette, a space will open up for the hearts.
I don't know if you can tell from my writing, but I am giddy in love with this house and spend a little time in it every single day.
Enough with the silly house, please take me to the beach!
