One Change ALWAYS Begets Another

Recently I redid the Expedit in our guest room.

I moved things from around the house to fill each box.

My little wire rack has been sitting empty ever since - due not to a lack of time, but a lack of creativity.

This morning, as I cleaned and straightened up the house, I had my "aha" moment.

First I swapped out the red corduroy slip covers for the original blue and white stripes.

Like the Expedit redo, the slipcover swap means another project.

I love all my hand painted pillows, but there are too many stripes.

I have some ideas for new pillows, but I am working on another pillow project right now.

New pillows will have to wait.

I filled the wire rack with shells and buoys from the mantel.

And that means a mantel redo.

I love the red slipcovers, but the stripes give the guest room a fresh, crisp look.

The guest room is done - if you don't count needing to replace the sofa pillows and the pillow on the wicker chair.

Which I guess means I am kidding myself that the guest room is done.

KC is coming for my retirement party in June, which means I have one month.

I still have to finish our bedroom shelves and redo the mantel.

Chances are each of those changes will beget other changes.

Such is life!

  4. I love your style so much! I am the same way with decorating....I start or redo one thing and that leads to another, and another! I always remind myself of the children's story book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Anywho, I love the striped cover and the baseball prints, and the tiered wire basket thingie, and the things in the basket thingie, and, well, you get it! I love it all....so much personality!

  6. What a really cool room! I love red but your blue and white stripes are so fresh and summery. And changes make life fun--if they're the nice kind of changes like perking the house up and planning your retirement. Have fun.

  8. Carol, this is just SO cute. I love what you did, and do you know, we have matching furniture? Yes, we do. I have a blue and white striped chair that belonged to my grandmother, and I just love it. I had it slipcovered in pink ticking years ago, and then upholstered it in blue and white stripes about twelve years ago. Now, I need to do it again. Not sure what the next incarnation will be. Probably striped. ;-)

Love that little stand next to your sofa. SO cute, and what neat baseball paintings. I really don't mind the stripes on stripes with the pillows. Can you pop them to the other side of the room somehow as that would pop the stripes over there? I need to go back and look at the pics.

That cabinet is a very clever idea. I'm always trying to corral my things, and that is genius and cute as can be.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Sounds like you have been very productive!

    XO,

    Sheila

  10. What a nice room! I love your husband's artwork, all the accessories and the big blue cabinet. The stripe slipcover is the perfect choice for this time of year and looks really fresh. Good luck on getting those projects done before the party. Won't it be nice to be retired and to have all the time in the world to work on your garden!

  13. I love that couch! Since it's a guest room I'm guessing it's a pullout bed? I think that is what I need in my guest room also!

  14. Oh my goodness - retirement? I do not believe it - just an excuse to get more done around the house! Your room looks great, but I am pretty sure that I have missed those fabulous baseball paintings - love them. My husband would be so jealous. Also, it is amazing how much storage you have put into that room. That wire rack with the beach theme is fabulous!

  15. Well, just think how much time you'll have after retiring? You may start moving all the rooms around while you're at it!

  20. I have always lod blue and white stripes. At first I thought that the paintings were paint by number until I remembered your husband was an artist. I love the paintings. What a great job. A very sweet room.
My daughter and children will be here in June for the first time in four years and I am busy fixing things for her as well.
How many days of school left? I bet you can't wait.

  21. Love the blue and white stripes - that's one of my favorite color combinations, plus I'm a huge stripe fan. You say there's too many stripes with the pillows on the couch, but I think it looks kind of cool! I wouldn't worry about rushing to change it.

  22. Isn't it wonderful to have slipcovers, it's like you have two sofas, one day I'll get one for mine. Right now it's white but saw one that was a neat looking gray at Ikea.
Love the paintings too, they are just fantastic!

  23. I too can relate. One change starts another. Oh, but I love the new look! I'd say that room would welcome any gurst, completely done or not. Love the balls in the glass jar. Creativity does not seem to be a problem with you sweetie. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  25. I've been going through some of your posts Carol and I love your quote ' I have two speeds - on and off'. I wish I had more energy like you !
Sorry I've not been around much, it looks like you've been very busy. I hope that Steve is ok, as I just read that he has had an operation.
The guest room looks really pretty. I love the stripes. I keep looking at a chair I have been given, thinking of you and wondering if I have the patience to make a slip cover !!
