From 6 to 7

On Friday, Steve and I walked around Carpinteria, a cute little beach town north of us, and I snapped a few pics with my phone.

My iPhone 6 died recently and I was using my new iPhone 7 camera.

I had heard that the iPhone 7 camera is pretty good, but it wasn't until I began editing that I noticed the quality of the photos.

With my iPhone 6, if I tried to crop just a small portion of a photo, everything looked pixelated, but I don't have that problem with the iPhone 7.

These cottages were photographed about an hour after the yellow house - the fickle June weather can turn a blue sky into a white sky in a matter of seconds.

I had a lot of fun editing the photos because zooming in and cropping gave me such different views - I had no idea there was a red flower when I was shooting the photos.

I love the color combo of aqua, yellow and purple in this garden.

You can just barely spot the American flag hiding behind the greenery in this pic.

I didn't even realize I was getting a patriotic shot - I just held my phone out in front of me and didn't really see what details I was capturing.

My eye was drawn to the aqua house and I didn't even notice the palm trees.

And that white roof of the porch completely escaped me.

Nor did I notice the French doors.

Several streets were lined on each side with jacaranda trees, but this was the only shot I could get without cars.

That lawn doesn't look too well cared for,

but cropping took care of that problem.

What drew me to this house in the first place was the white picket fence and the pretty windows.

Purples, reds, yellows, pinks -

after a rainy California winter, the whole town of Carpinteria was in full color and my new phone did a great job of capturing it.

I took this photo in our garden and I snapped the beach photo on a bike ride yesterday.

I have a feeling I'll be using my phone a lot more than my Canon.

Now I'm headed over to link up with Pam of Everyday Living for her Gardens Galore Link Party.

I hope you link a garden post of your own.

  1. Your new phone takes great photos. I love how cropping a photo can reveal all sorts of new things. You take lovely photos. My phone camera app is icky but I use it on occasion. Looks like rain today and we need it.

  2. Carol, Since I got my iPhone 7 ,I rarely use my camera. It zooms better than my camera and then once the picture is taken you can enlarge it yet again. I love all the wonderful flowers you saw. It is beautiful in your area. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  4. Beautiful photos! Your phone takes fantastic shots! I use my phone a lot but I have to say my new Canon 80d does do a much better job than my Samsung Galaxy S7. It is easier to carry a phone camera on day trips. Love all of the images you captured!

  6. Love all the color in your area! I just got a new phone and notice it picks up colors much better than my camera. The camera tends to lighten up and wash out color. Lovely tour!!

  17. Carol, thank you for the stroll through Carpinteria! I use a Samsung 7 and find the same true of its camera as you do your new iPhone 7 - it has great edit features without the need for picmonkey oftentimes. I pretty much have resorted to JUST my phone, and purchased an SD card for extra memory.
You have captured the epitome of California cottage life and living beautifully. Thanks for sharing, and I'm happy to see the water tables have replenished over the winter.

  19. I just switched from a Samsung Galaxy to an iPhone 7. I was skeptical, since the Galaxy camera was phenomenal, but like you, I love it! That daisy picture is outstanding btw...fabulous!!

  23. What a darling town Carol! I snapped a ton of photos with my 6 in Napa and Carmel. Thinking maybe I need to upgrade to a 7. :) Love all of the homes and gardens. The Agapanthas in CA are absolutely breathtaking!

  25. I love the cottages and all the flowers. Agapanthus is such a showy flower and I love the blue color. I know someone who lives in San Franciso and says they grow everywhere. I have gotten to where I use my iPhone to take pretty much all my pictures. I have the iPhone 6 plus which was an upgraded camera even over the iPhone 6. Not sure if it's the same as the iPhone 7 though.

  26. I never get tired of looking at cottage gardens, picket fences and garden gates. Beautiful! I love all the little whales on the first house, without them you might think it was a farmhouse and not a cottage by the sea.
Have fun with your new iPhone camera.
    Connie :)
