My husband and children enjoy making fun of me and my silly projects.
I acknowledge that many of my activities are frivolous, but I have fun.
In my last post, I gave myself 3 projects to "copy".
From this view of the garden, you would be hard pressed to see my handiwork
and even zooming in, it is still difficult to find any changes.
Yet when you look closely you can see that I added birdhouses to the side fence.

I really should not have used the word copy, because the photos I pinned on Pinterest were just for inspiration.
With the birdhouses hung, I was ready to make the boats and that involved a long walk along the beach hunting for driftwood.
Making sailboats out of driftwood and left over fabric absolutely falls into the frivolous category.
I moved the yellow bench to under the front window and played with my new boats.
It was a silly pastime, but I had fun.
I waver between liking and hating the large boat, but you can see that the glass bowl is full of driftwood which means I have lots on hand and I can just make another boat.

Just as the birdhouse picture led to inspiration, Beachcomber's boats were simply inspiration for my silly boats.
I fully intended to make a tray with numbers just like this one made by Linda from Itsy Bits and Pieces.
but when I saw the condition of the tray, I decided to use an old lid from either a bread box or a coffee canister.
When I went looking for numbers to use as stencils, I came across two different sets of magnetic letters hidden in my alphabet stash.
A magnetic sign that can be changed as the mood strikes seemed like a much more practical way to go.
The shelf in my creative space got an update and the best part is that I can change the sign any time I want.
I wanted to complete these 3 projects by Friday - it's Friday and I am done.
And, I must stop all of this frivolity because I have to make 50 different boxes, cut out tags and make a banner for an upcoming baby shower.
And that is serious business, no frivolity involved.

ReplyDeleteI love the sailboats!
ReplyDeleteNow, you inspire me to be frivolous like you! I love the driftwood boats so much!
ReplyDeleteThe sailboats are one of the most unique uses I have seen for driftwood. Your sailboats are adorable! I think I also have flowers with bird houses pinned up too. The bird houses are so cute - maybe you'll have some house guests soon
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have been have a great time making things, love the birds houses and the sailing boats are so cute.

All Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAll Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteNot frivolous but inspiring! I love that you see things and then make them. I tend to admire and then move on. My husband and I have always gone on lots of garden tours. There are often great collections of birdhouses like that. I love them!
ReplyDeleteMorning Carol,
ReplyDeleteI think if more people had some fun and frivolity in their lives they would be much happier people, so
good for you. I liked all your projects, and thought your boats were adorable, and loved your tray and the fact you can change it anytime you want......much better idea I think!! So you keep on with your frivoility and fun cause there is plenty of work to be done
that is ho hum and maybe not so much fun!! lol
Blessings to you hon,
Nellie
All of your projects turned out great. My favorite are the driftwood boats.
ReplyDeleteI love the boats you could sell those for sure they are just darling.
ReplyDeleteYou are the most productive frivolous artist around, my friend! Out of this fun is where true art comes, because art without the fun is work. I LOVE THOSE SAIL BOATS and though I don't have anywhere to put one, I still want to make one, maybe a tiny one! You know that as busy as I am as a teacher and writer, I need to escape to my frivolous world to make paper objects, my last one being a white horse. It was fun and it came out wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying...we benefit from everything you do.
I don't think anything that brings you joy and relaxation is frivolous at all!! Great projects.
ReplyDeleteI love that you were inspired and completed three projects. Bird houses make me so happy and the boats are so so cute and perfect for your home. I like your magnetic sign and how easy to change it out. Enjoy your baby shower work.
ReplyDeleteLinda
I think your projects are wonderful. Pashaw! to those who rain on your parade. We can't all get bookoo bucks for our art like Steve does!
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteDelightful additions to your amazing cottage, you inspire me with your artful play. Your self expression is heart warming, I want to linger for awhile and soak in your charming creations, while I imagine sailing away for a day on one of your precious sailboats, leaving all worries behind.
XOXO,
Vera
I love your fun projects especially those driftwood boats! Sarah x
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, I love the driftwood boats - they have been on my to do list for a year now - but, finding decent driftwood here is near impossible... we found a new more isolated beach so just maybe I will be able to pick up a couple pieces... love all your little frivolity... Cathy
ReplyDeleteGreat projects all and as usual I admire your industriousness, but what I just noticed and especially love is your "Chien Bizarre" sign. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteawwwwww hon, nothing that is fun, can be called frivolous. nothing! so there!!! "olden" wisdom has spoken!!!!! ,-)
ReplyDeletetessa~
I ADORE your boats !
ReplyDeleteI've cut the sails on one too - ( my daughter brought me home a piece of wood from Florida lol ) and they've just sat there for well over a week now - I've got too caught up with the garden ( and wild life )
Your garden is stuff that dreams are made of Carol - truly - it's magnificent with all of that glorious color!
XOXO
Frivolous? Never, no way! I love your versions and the fact that you had so much fun creating them.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever worry about being frivolous,it's our right as women to be anytime we want to be! I love your inspiration and it seems like you had an enjoyable time doing them. But doesn't sound so much for all the work you'll be doing for the shower!
ReplyDeleteI don't think your projects are frivolous or silly at all! I think you are amazingly creative and talented with all the things you do. And if what you do makes YOU happy, then power to you. Those sailboats are ingenious!
ReplyDeleteNot frivolous! Your projects feed your soul. I love seeing your creative endeavors and the photos that inspired them.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend!
How clever, your birdhouse on the fence. They are really sweet! Keep crafting away, you are retired and should do what you want to do!
ReplyDeleteLove the sail boats!! Everything looks great.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cindy
I love all of your projects, birdhouses are adorable! I especially love the BEACH sign from your last post! I think it would look best by my pool :) Enjoy making your boxes! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteOh dearest Carol, your comment on my new post is so kind and I can feel the vibes through the screen - I really can. My goal these days is to learn to write well, and blogging is just one marvelous way to write and share. I have a poetry group that comes to my house and tomorrow for sure, I need to work on a poem for when they come to visit. Writing is such a personal and emotional activity, and poetry writing is different from my blogging because there are no photos used! But I appreciate everyone's comments and I just want to write beauty. Have a sensational day! Anita
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteOh goodness - I am in love with your drift wood boats - so much so I may copy them for my garden!! I am switching over to my summer style garden and adding bits and pieces of seashells ,etc. and think they are adorable.
Have a wonderful day.
Blessings, Erin
Bring on a little frivolity in this life! I love your little boats and you've inspired me to bring more than shells home from the beach.
ReplyDeleteLove the driftwood boats, magnetic tray message board and birdhouses on the fence. There is so much frivolity going on here I had to stay awhile.
ReplyDeleteI don' think any of that was frivolous. I love your boats and especially the big one. I'm sure the hard part was having to walk along the beach searching for the driftwood...yeah...that had to be rough. The birdhouses are darling and the tray is genius! I saw someone buy those colored magnetic alphabet letters for kids and spray paint them (or not).....I think I need some of those. You're so inspiring. Now if you could just send me some energy to go with it. Have a nice Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteIs it really frivolous to spend one's time creating beautiful things which make one happy ?
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm frivolous too, and long may it continue.
I love the birdhouses and the sail boats. I could make a whole flotilla with the amount of driftwood I've got !
Aw I love your boats. They aren't frivolous. They're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your boats. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour.
Happy Memorial Day!
I don't think any of your projects are frivolous, Carol. Any time you're being creative and making such charming creations to add beauty...that's a good thing!!

ReplyDeleteFrivolous or not frivolous as long as you are having fun is all that matters. You are just getting in touch with your artistic side. I reckon you are very creative and imaginative. I love the birdhouse, I think I pinned the same birdhouse from Pinterest so cute.
ReplyDeleteLiving by the beach is like living your holiday.
Enjoy making and creating those arty things.
Have good week.
Blessing,
Ada

ReplyDeleteLaura of Harvest Lane Cottage
Your projects are delightful, Carol, and here's my two cents: they're not 'silly' if they make you happy!
ReplyDeleteThe boats are great.
ReplyDeleteI like the bird houses on the fence. That is such a cute idea.
The magnetic letter idea is even better than the original. You can change it as you want. You could also get some of that magnetic paper you could print things on to really change the look.
Great ideas. No not copied but inspired :)
Well your little driftwood boats are cute and I love the bird houses.
ReplyDeleteBe Happy
I love your projects....I get teased about mine as well but you know they love what you do! I love the different sizes of the boats and all your little birdhouses.
ReplyDeleteI also love the magnetic message board. What a sweet idea.
