We take the same walk nearly every morning.
We walk out to the beach - Pierpont Elementary school sits on the ocean and today the kindergarten class was doing math on the beach.
Lulu plays on the beach.
We walk through the park
and finish our walk back home along the boulevard so that Lulu can dry off from her daily swim.
Today I remembered to take the camera along because I wanted to show you the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jones.
We walk past their home every day and just before Easter,
this rusty old wheelbarrow was sitting in their driveway with a sign that read 'FREE'.
Mrs. Jones said there wasn't enough space for the wheelbarrow in their eclectic garden
full of cleverly designed sculptures.
So, the rusty wheelbarrow with the flat tire was taken to our house.
where it sat for a few weeks
until Steve drilled holes in the bottom for drainage and I planted flowers to create a wheelbarrow garden.

ReplyDeleteI so love how you put this together Carol. The title alone is provocative and you have no idea where it leads....but it led to a bright ending. The community of recycling not just objects, but ideas. We still are in early spring mode, with the little green leaves barely starting to open and with lots of rain this weekend. So going out to plant is still about three weeks away for us, but we'll get there! AND THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON THE BEACH? What a paradise for those kids!

OH Carol to have your school on the beach. How heavenly. To be out in the sun with the sea right there to do math. I think if I had gone to school there I would have been better in math LOL! Love seeing LuLu on the beach playing and that wheel barrow is just awesome. How fun.

ReplyDeleteLast week...my hubby said that he was going to get rid of our old wheelbarrow. And I said...No, you are not!! But you can bring it to the front yard for me to plant flowers in. Now I just need to go out and get the flowers.

You know I grew up on the beaches of SoCal but never was I able to sit on the beach and learn with classmates, what a wonderful teacher/classroom!!

I think Mr. and Mrs. Jones knew you would come along and adopt their wheelbarrow. It sure found a good new home.

ReplyDeleteYes, I would thank Mrs. Jones for that wheelbarrow! I also am envious on the views you have on your walk, no water by where I live (except if I drive into chicago). Love Lulu and she looks so happy after her daily dip, pretty rejuvenating! the only place we had math class was inside the school room with the very mean nuns! Have a great Mother's day!
ReplyDeleteRusty old wheel barrow, how fun. We had one once and the first year we filled it with bright red geraniums. Eventually it became the permanent home for our hens and chickens. Wish I had one now. Great find, glad you grabbed it.
ReplyDeleteoh I am so happy you now own that beautiful rusty wheelbarrow. I have one as well-----it is over 50 years old and the legs finally broke down but it will still be nestled in the yard full of flowers very soon.

ReplyDeleteThere is a huge metal gorilla in a front garden on the way into town. Unfortunately the owners have no interest in gardening, so he seems somewhat neglected.
Your wheelbarrow is lovely; it would look great next to my planted mop bucket and dustbin !
