Well, Mother Nature put the kabosh on that - cold wind throughout the day and into the night - so instead of weeding and planting in the garden, I rearranged nearly every flat surface in the house.
Changes began in the entryway with pitchers replacing glass bottles on the cupboard.
An old stool, a biscuit tin and an April Cornell enamel bowl in a corner of the kitchen sport some of my favorite things - numbers, polka dots and checks.
while another shelf in the dining room got a simple update to blue and white.
The glass jars that were removed from the entryway found a new home on the mantel.
My C collection was moved from the dining room to a side table in the living room.
The vignette on the cabinet in the hall has not changed for months so a new display was definitely in order.
I like the white objects in the foreground allowing Steve's painting of a Bleeker Street door to be the focal point.
I braved the wind (which is still howling at midnight) long enough to cut some roses from the garden.
To the casual observer, my house probably looks the same because the furniture rarely moves, but today, there were little changes . . . everywhere.

I never tire of seeing your garden, collectables and your husband art work. I love the way you have re-arranged things. I think if your furniture is placed where you like it and where it works...do we really need to change our rooms around.:) Hope you get to play outside today, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletemy favorite sections would be: the wire baskets ... those are too cool. & all those bottles. fun changes. ( :
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the little changes on your header, too! How I ache to get something done in my house but with school and my writing obligations (that I love), I can barely get anything done other than cleaning my bathrooms and vacuuming! Your cottage is alive Carol, with the love you both put into it! CHARMING as ever....Anita
ReplyDeleteI'm actually glad you had cold winds, because every little arrangement you've made today is inspiring!
ReplyDeleteAll pretty ....my favorite is that basket of flowers sitting in the fireplace. What a nice touch! :)
ReplyDeleteSo many great changes (and collections!), and those all take time to please the eye just so. I was playing around in my sunroom yesterday, still haven't gotten it to where it pleases me just so.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to change things around and makes things look new again, for me. Your yard is so colorful and beautiful and I like the texture on your yellow wall.
ReplyDeleteI love your wire baskets...great variety. I need to do a little changing up around here today, too! Hope you get out in your garden today! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteso pretty! I had the same kind of weekend, only it snowed here!!! I bought two flats of pansies and left them in a sunny spot inside. My 8 month old cat decided they made a great salad bar... lol!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday!
Isn't it amazing how many ways we can change around our accessories and get a new fresh look. I never tire of seeing your beautiful gardens and charming cottage. And Steve's paintings add so much interest and beauty to your decor.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
I adore the way you change things around, decorating with what you have, to give things a fresh new look. Well done!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so pretty everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI love the little touches too!
I really love how you change things around. It's what I do so I can enjoy my collections but not have so much out at one time. Your garden is looking wonderful.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
So pretty.
ReplyDeletewisdom!
ReplyDeleteyou wanted to do one project. it was thwarted.
you did not sit around and pout, about your plans having to change.
you found another project, to put your energy to.
wisdom!!!
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteRelaxing, calming and refreshing changes with introducing so much blue. I adore visiting, it just dropped my blood pressure with your touches of blue. I needed that ... >^..^< Max went to the vet on Monday and was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. Trust me visiting your cottage and seeing all the blue I feel calm.
Adorable striped column candle and I think Steve's painting of the Bleeker Street door is intriguing, I love this painting and always enjoy seeing your change of vignettes in front of it.
I collect French wire and have it scattered about the house so you know my heart swooned when I saw your wire baskets.
You may be experiencing cold winds outside today but inside your cottage is peaceful and loving.
XO,
Vera
I'm a big fan of little changes! I normally gravitate to red, Carol, but those blue dishes really caught my eye this morning! Everything looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour little changes are so inspiring! My fave is the blue & white area ~ such a classic, but always fresh combo!
ReplyDeleteWe're windy here too ~ YUCK!
Little changes are good too. You have lots of sweet things to move around your home and you have walls! I find with an open concept there just aren't the walls to stick a cabinet or shelf or table (or step ladder) etc. to decorate (my dilemma) so I decorate surfaces. Your cottage is cozy and sweet. Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteI like the picture with all the garden photos. Your garden looks like such a nice place to hang out. I noticed a painting I've never seen before. Is the one with the red doors a new one? Aren't you tired of this wind? I sure am. And, how crazy is it that last week it was windy and blazing hot and this week is windy and chilly. I hope some nice, warm temps come around one of these days and stay for a while...with no wind...a breeze is good...but not wind. That would be great! :-)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks fantastic, you have one of those homes that is a feeling home and by that I mean there are so many textures and shapes you just want to touch and feel everything. Beautiful roses from the garden all we have is grass right now not even a leaf on the trees.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy looking at your vignettes! They always look fabulous...:) The one with Steve's painting is really nice with the white objects against the bright door in the painting. Do you have a place you store some of your pieces or do you always use all of them and just rearange them? :) Have a blessed evening...Vicky
ReplyDeleteIt has been so windy here too and a bit cold. Last week we had weather in the 90's. Crazy weather huh? Your sweet little cottage looks just dreamy, as always.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
❤️Ana
So something really nice came out of a cool windy day. :) Your flat surfaces are smiling like me.
ReplyDeleteI love all your little changes...I love to putter and change things all the time, too. In fact, right now the top of my buffet in the living room is bare because I want to create a new vignette. I started to go to Hobby Lobby today to look for some sort of tray and I thought how silly that was, considering I have so much stuff as it is in my basement. I always have to remember the mantra, "use what you have!" - especially when on a budget.
ReplyDeleteLittle changes do make a difference.
ReplyDeleteMerle................
I love puttering and tweaking things in our home - it always makes it feel so new and like I have really achieved something big... love all your changes, Carol.... so pretty as always... Cathy
ReplyDeleteGosh, I so admire your energy. And I love your daisy-filled bucket. So cute!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun way to spend the day, Carol. Your home is so cheerful and full of color. It's always a treat to visit Art and Sand!
ReplyDeleteLittle changes can surely make things feel fresh and new!! The little red (knob??) in your galvanized bucket ~ Yes ~ that's a keeper :)
ReplyDeleteCarol, it's always fun to make a few changes. I had plans to work in the garden also but we had rain all day. I spent the day cleaning bathrooms and mopping floors. Not nearly as fun as you. Although I did a new arrangement on the table. I love your collection of bottles and your fun C's. Steve's painting is wonderful! Everything really (as always) looks warm and welcoming!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
You have such a pretty home and I love the blue! Isn't it fun to change things around to give it a new look? I can't wait to get started on my house...as soon as all the gardening is done. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your little changes...everything looks so pretty!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cindy
Love those red checks and dots. Looks amazing. I'm in the mood for changing things around too. I guess that goes with spring cleaning.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say, but I love visiting your little corner of the world. Your blog is amazing! You have that magic touch that brings so many little items together and creates harmony. Like the unexpected rusty shovel with the little heart. I so admire your decorating talents.
Have a wonderful day.
Your blogging sis, Connie :)
Your home always looks amazing any way you arrange it; pretty pops of color everywhere. Love Steve's door painting!!
ReplyDeleteDrenched in color and perked up my day. Thanks for the look at Steve's painting. I had to pin of course.
ReplyDeleteI tried changing things round on Tuesday but ended up putting most things back !
ReplyDeleteAll your changes are really pretty (especially those baskets of course)and I love your updated header.
Your things always look so pretty and cheerful. I love the wire baskets on the dining room shelf, and the blue & white collection and your husband's artwork is always a treat to see.
ReplyDeleteIt's been pretty windy here, also!
Thank you for sharing. These photos are so beautiful. I know how you feel about needing to change things around you and to somehow acknowledge that Spring is finally here...even when the cold icy days . seem to tell us differently. I really enjoyed your blog. please visit me at heatherhawley.blogspot.ca
ReplyDeleteBoy, you sure were busy, everything looks great and what a wonderful collection of bottles. Isn't it just like Mother Nature to not cooperate when we have plans???
ReplyDeleteCynthia
What wonderful changes! I bet people notice more than you know.
ReplyDeleteWe have been working non stop in our yard in between the wind and rain and cold......I keep forgetting to take photos.
Such lovely little changes!
ReplyDeleteI planned to spend some time outside in my flower beds today too, but it is just too cold today. I had to start a fire in the woodstove today!
ReplyDeleteYour changes indoors look wonderful. II love the little red ladder with tthe galvanized planters! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week! ~Deborah
