I ran into an old friend at an art show last night and we got to talking about retirement and how we spend our days.
I told my friend that Bob Dylan's quote pretty much sums up how I spend my days.
Today my "in between" involved a bike ride along the coast,
the requisite walk on the beach with Lulu
and not much else.
There was a bit of shopping - I couldn't pass up the soft rainbow colors of the napkins
or the sweet bunnies on the dishes.
Steve was making pork belly for dinner so a pretty table setting was in order.
And then, there was picture taking -
a neighbor's gate . . .
my fortnight lilies in bloom . . .
a vignette in a cupboard.
We have no plans for tomorrow,
but I'm sure I'll find a way to spend those hours "in between".
I love that quote! It is spot on! And I absolutely love your photo of the gate and your stunning vignette you created there in the cupboard! Wishing you a wonderful week Carol! Nicole xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love your photos. The bunny plate stole my heart.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Thank you for another lovely post.
ReplyDeleteI liked the quote.
Have a great day today ~ FlowerLady
Love it! I am so glad you are enjoying your retirement so much! Your quote is perfect and is a great motto for life! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteThis is LIVING.
ReplyDeleteI am fortunate to have a job, but sometimes it's a RACE. That is NOT living, the way I see it.
Bob Dylan (a Minnesotan!) and I see eye to eye, and so do YOU and I. The pleasure of small things that unfortunately get passed over due to demands of the day are what make a soul smile. Dear friend, enjoy those in between hours today, no matter what you do. (LOVE THAT RED HEART ON THE DISH!)
P.S. I LOVE that white GATE!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe gate photo is spectacular! I think you are enjoying retirement to the fullest!
ReplyDeleteA bike ride, walk, and shopping sound like a fun afternoon to me. I love your colorful new things! Xo
ReplyDeleteI love how you spend your days - we do much the same (substitute river for beach - I know, no substitute). "Every day's a holiday, and every night is Saturday night". Love your new napkins and plates, Carol, and what a pretty table. Life is good (even if we are still digging out of the snow, at least we got out for our walk. The neighborhood was convivial, with lots of people out shoveling and enjoying the aftermath in the sunshine!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day! Soooooo jealous of your beautiful weather. I had to shovel AGAIN! lol
ReplyDeletexo
Sounds like a little slice of heaven. ;)
ReplyDeleteI had a nice chuckle at the letters spelling WHY :)
ReplyDeleteI love that quote from Bob Dylan! Beautiful photos of a lovely way to spend the day. I hope every day this week is just as nice.
ReplyDeleteI would not have passed the rabbit dishes either. I really can't look at dishes, because I have too many. Though I do use almost all of them at least once a year. I love your neighbor's gate. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos as usual. I really love the one of the garden gate.
ReplyDeleteThere's a large sign/sculpture in town that reads "Day is for resting, night is for sleeping". One of my other favourites (and I vow to needlepoint it onto a cushion one day) is "It is good to do nothing all day, and rest afterwards".
ReplyDeleteI love those little hanging hearts and the bunny plates - they'd have come home with me too!
Most of my days fly by and doing what I want seems to be plenty for me!! Love your vignettes, they always perk me up.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
So glad you have the beach for some of the in between times. So great to ride your bike or walk along the beach with Lulu. Ahhhhhh! Love love love the bunny plates those are just adorable. Have a great new week ahead.
ReplyDeleteKris
Isn't retirement wonderful? Love your neighbor's gate and your lilies in bloom! Adorable bunny plates too! The in-between just evaporates here.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteJudy
You are a lucky lady indeed! Great gate!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect day to me!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote and great photos! I LOVE those bunny dishes! SO cute! Did you buy them recently?
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I love your new acquisitions - to replace the lovely things that sadly gotten broken when the shelf collapsed, I hope. I hope my shelves stay up -- I have the same kind in my utility room, with some cookbooks and antique soap boxes, etc. on them.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many lovely ideas, and it's so generous of you to share them with your readers (or should I say, followers?) of which I am one.
Enjoy the day! xoxox
Oh, those blue bunny dishes! I need ore dishes like a hole in the head, but still want those blue bunnies. Some days I don't get much done "in between", just get up and go to bed.
ReplyDeleteJudith
Ore dishes? What are they ? How about NEW dishes.
ReplyDeleteJudith
I am intrigued by your jar of metal letters.
ReplyDeleteA thrift store purchase I assume. Nice.
I love the quote and your pictures. Especially the gate and the bunny dishes. So sweet! I am retired, too, and can appreciate the feeling. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that... "the hours "in Between""... lovely.
ReplyDeleteI cringed when I saw the picture of your shelf falling. You took it in stride, but I would have lost it lol
I hope you're feeling much better, my friend.
xo,
rue
Sounds like pretty much the perfect day to me - especially the beach part. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like pure heaven to me! Maybe someday I'll be there too!
ReplyDeleteTania
Man that Steve is a real peach. Those lilies are the perfect touch of spring. They make me a little jealous...
ReplyDeleteI love those in between moments Carol. Looks like you fill yours up wonderfully! Oh to have flowers blooming. Love that garden gate!
ReplyDeleteAnd those bunny dishes, I can see why you bought them instead of the red transferware!
hugs,
Jann
Carol you fill your "in between" hours with great beauty. Love your photography and OMGosh how I adore your bunny plates.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Vera
Oh my that bunny dish should of been mine! As least it would have been if I go there before you! It's funny I was reflecting on how lucky I am to be retired, I do what i want, when I want. And some times nothing at all! Right now knitting up a new sweater for myself, and just finished socks for MR. C My first pair of socks I made and hope the next pair is an improvement. I'd love to wade on the beach but right now I try to avoid the puddles!
ReplyDeleteCarol. Do you what I love about your posts? That you remind us all that it's the little things that bring us joy. If only everyone could slow down--no matter what their day is like--and have your exquisite eye for seeing the beauty around them. It sounds like you're staying nice and healthy--thanks for reminding me that i need to get back on my bike too. I'm starting to feel like my old self, I've been under the weather. But i'm thinking we need to pick a date! what do you think? :)

I love that quote, so true. Where you live is an incredible location with 24/7 view and sounds of the beach. A morning walk must be divine and so rejuvenating.
ReplyDeleteThe plates with bunny is so cute.
Enjoy your week Carol.
Blessings,
Aida
Gorgeous pictures....and that quote sounds so good to me!

ReplyDeleteRetirement surely has it's perks...:)
ReplyDeleteWe are very happily going thru retirement and have many "in-betweens" that we love/ Of course, we are both very olden so a lot of in-betweens end up as naps...:)
What a charmed life you lead, my friend! :D I love this post because it's like a journal entry of your day!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I think that you are living a perfect retirement . . . doing the things that make you happy . . . what's better than that :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!!!
Connie :)
We all must love to blog since we spend out times in-between doing what we love - our blog and visiting other blogs we love like yours. It is always nice to see beautiful beaches when you live in the north with snow covered yards.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds like it was the perfect day for a perfect day! Love the quote and for the most part I live by it....except the errand obligation we all cannot avoid! Your photos are lovely!
ReplyDeleteSound like you had an awesome day!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
I already feel more relaxed just by reading this post! I love the beach pics. I've never been to the west coast so I love seeing pics of it. Looks like you have found a way to have a nice relaxing day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day! Time well spent! As always, beautiful pictures. I love this Carol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your day, Carol. Sounds like perfection to me!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have my hours inbetween! A wonderful way to spend the day! Sarah x
ReplyDeleteMy 'in between' hours are taken up by a 'job', however I do try to find moments to enjoy 'life'!! Enjoy your hours! Blessings, Cindy

ReplyDeleteI have stopped my dreams of ever retiring completely where I can enjoy the beach etc.
I am just happy to be able to work to support my spending habits of buying vintage items and playing with them LOL
I didn't save enough then had a big downfall in my money back in 2008 so still working during my ripe old age of retirement
I love your bunny dishes, so cute.
ReplyDeleteIf that isn't the perfect quote for those of us retired, I don't what is. Love this and will add it to my files. '-)
ReplyDeleteLove those bunny dishes. Who makes them? And tell me about the red heart on the towel. Is that a candy or an object? Gorgeous! Your staging makes me smile with delight.
What a lovely way to spend the day!
