One . . . Two . . . Three . . .

On February 5, I wrote a post titled "February . . .  a month of paint"

and I challenged myself to get 4 pieces of furniture painted by the end of the month.

Each piece of furniture was calling out for help in a different way

and I am pleased with myself that 3 of the pieces are finished.

Four generations of my family, beginning with my grandpa Archie, have used this little wooden chair which needed a new rocker in addition to a coat of paint.

Happily, "Archie" is sitting in a corner of my creative space joined by bunnies (Easter can't be too far off)  I found in the attic.

I love primary colors , but this tall skinny cabinet next to the sofa was too much color for me so I toned down the color with a coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.

I used the same knobs on the piece, but

the vignettes on the shelves were freshened up.

A vintage hook we used for keys when the cabinet was in the entry way, now holds a buoy we use as a doorstop.

Painting the cabinet put me at half of my painting jobs complete, but I threw in another project before I tackled another piece of furniture.

I painted an old cabinet door Greek Blue and added a garland to spiff up my potting bench for spring.

Sunday, I painted the drawers of this dresser red and hoped to leave the cream colored base, but the entire piece looked washed out.

So, the base of the dresser got a coat of ASCP in Old White and

new drawer pulls give the piece a fresh look.

For the last painting project, I am trying out Miss Mustard Seed paint because I love the color, Eulalie's Sky.

I have not found drawer pulls that I like within my price range, so when I paint the piece, the old pulls will be back in business temporarily.

Tomorrow's dilemma - do I tackle the dresser, work in the garden or visit the Wednesday Flea Market?

Decisions . . . decisions . . . decisions!

  2. You are amazing! One of those projects would have filled my "dance card". So for tomorrow…….I vote for the market. '-)
Seriously, Carol, these transformations look terrific. I'm impressed with all that you get done.

  3. WOW, I can't believe you painted all those pieces. They look great. I like the colors on all of them very much.
I am so excited that we are going to get some rain. If I had Gene Kelly I would go and dance in the rain. LOL.
Have a great weekend, even in the rain.

  4. Good for you--set goals and actually do them! :) I need to set more goals because the days just seem to slip away from me. Your pieces look awesome--I usually do not like red--but you could change my mind!

  5. Busy bee ... I'd be off to the market after all that hard work! I have a cupboard to paint on Friday. I am going to try out Autentico paint ... apparently, even better than Annie Sloan ... we shall see!

  7. WOW Carol - you've been busy!
I LOVE ASCP's red's - just gorgeous and have to tell you I love your living room windows ( never noticed them before ) and no wonder you said you don't put curtains - look at the view - and it looks quite private with all those trees!
Can't wait to see the big dresser painted ( you can paint the knobs you know - just dry brush them )

  8. WOW.Carol, you are on a roll, and Archie and the cabinet look fantastic. There is NO stopping you my friend. That Greek blue door...SIGH! YES! And of course, the casement windows in your home are lovely.

I SAY, GO FOR THE DRESSER! PLEASE! Do not keep us hanging here!

    Have a super day. Anita

  12. Carol, you are just too smart and energetic!! You actually finish what you begin (not that I am pointing a finger at anyone, like me!!). You have done a great job - cannot wait to see the last piece, when it is done!!

  13. Great projects! I have yet to try milk or chalk paint...I'm sure that last piece is going to be gorgeous. I vote for taking a break and heading to the flea market - but that's just me!!

  16. Oh boy, each item looks great! Love the bunnies in the red rocker, love the red on front of the now white cabinet. And the tall cabinet by the door looks great, I'm surprised you got rid of all the color but you're right, it looks better - and the buoy is perfect hanging on the side. Can't wait to see how the dresser turns out - wow, you're really getting your paint on! Great job!

  17. I really like the red rocker and the Greek blue cabinet door! Annie Sloan paint is really good, and I've liked everything I've painted.

A lot to choose from. It is supposed to rain this weekend, and the storm is suppose to get here too.

  18. You did a really good job on all those pieces. I like the cabinet toned down from the primary colors...although I do like color...I like it better now.

What a cute little rocker. Did you get the rocker part fixed? I have my Dad's rocker from when I was a child and I had to have a new rocker part crafted for it. You would never know it was added.
I gave it to my son because my Dad would have wanted him to have it.

You, go, girl. I am anxious to see how you like the milk paint. Are you old enough to remember when we used the "old" milk paint back in the late 60s/70s-and you used it over bare wood?

Have a great day- with those 3 choices you have a big decision ahead of you!;>) xo Diana

  19. I love them all Carol but, the rocking chair is darn cute. I love little chairs - especially rocking chairs. It's raining here so I am doing some indoor crafting. But, any of your three ideas sounds wonderful to me... have a fun day with whatever you decide.... Cathy

  22. I have an old rocker that I've been hesitant to paint, but it needs something done to it and after seeing your, I now think I will paint it. I haven't tried milk paint, but I love how your pieces look! Great job! Oh, and I vote for the flea market. :)

  23. I love all the pieces you painted. The tall cabinet is perfect to showcase vignettes now and blends in rather then shouts out! Does that make sense? Anyway the red drawers on the small chest are a wonderful color. I can't wait to see the big chest painted. Love the rocker! My high chair used by 4 generations is painted red and I love it!
Enjoy today what ever you decide to do!

  26. Love the wonderful buoy doorstop and can't wait to see the big dresser done too. I found one like it on Craigslist to get, but it was sold before I knew it.

  27. Firstly, go to the flea market, painting and gardening can wait. Secondly, thanks for using that red paint from AS, I definitely need to get some to do the chairs in the café.
Seriously, go shopping you've already done loads of lovely makeovers this month, though I can't wait till you do the dresser, I think it'll look great !

  31. Flea market first! Wow! You've been painting up a storm this month! I like the tall piece painted white. It shows off your goodies inside better that way. And you're so lucky to have your rocking chair that's been in your family so long. All we can do outside is shovel. Gardening is a looong way off for us. Enjoy!

  32. Carol,
You did a great job on all the pieces. I especially love the new white cabinet. Love the red and white on the dresser that is a show stopper. Awesome job.

  34. Good Evening Carol, I know I say it, practically every time I visit you, but you really are amazing. You challenge yourself and you achieve your goals.
It must be wonderful to have a rocking chair which has been used by 4 generations of your family.
I love the Greek blue which you have used on the old cabinet door.... it reminds me of my time living on the Island Of Cyprus.... lots of beautiful blues.

I like all of the changes you've made. The red drawers in your painted dresser have really made the red in the painting above it stand out.

  39. Amazing accomplishments~ you are the busiest lady in blogland! I adore all of your changes, but I am partial to red, so I am loving your sweet chair and dresser redo! Gorgeous...and I vote for the flea market! :)

  42. They all look great! How fun...chalk paint and it makes all those pieces like something brand new to you. Can't wait to see how the dresser turns out!

  43. Carol,
Wow, I missed this post!!! I may be late to visit, But I am amazed by your painting frenzy! You accomplish your goals with spectular results. Archie is adorable in his red with perfect distress applied and don't get me started about the bunnies sitting on the rocker. So sweet. The tall skinny cabinet now Old White with the new vignettes looks really fun with all collection of hands. Do you read palms?

I'm loving the Greek Blue and the dream garland is like a thoughtful suggestion that whispers to the heart. The crisp white with red on the dresser is a real pop of energy and it's new jewelry works so well. Brushed nickel anything ... Pulls, handles are my personal favorite metal.

So Carol with me being a day late I hope your day included the flea market!
    Hey on Thursday relax awhile!!!

  44. Carol,
Quick question about the baby's breath you have set out. Does Lulu brother it? I love the sweetness it gives in mass with no other flowers ... Perfect just by itself. Max >^..^< and Simon >^_^< will not leave it alone. It becomes catnip to them that call their names. Lulu behave with it?

  45. I love the little red/white dresser - just perfect :) Can't wait to see how the large dresser turns out!

  46. I love the color of the rocking chair, and the new old white on the cabinet gives it a more aged feel to it. Love the dresser color, and you've been a painting demon! It is so fricking cold here Mr. C wont' let me paint our bedroom. It might be because this is the third try on the color, or because it would freeze right after rolling on. It's bitter cold again -10, and 10" of snow is due, so we'll total 78" and counting. Wish I could garden, but not for a few months more.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sounds like amazing choices you have! Garden and flea market?!?! That is my kind of day! Ok...every piece you completed looks amazing! I really like your rocker! I think there is something so special about rockers and the fact that it has been within the family for 4 generations is pretty awesome! I like how you added the buoy aa a door stop...that is clever! And your potting bench looks so fresh and happy! You have been so productive! Let us know what you decide for tomorrow!!! Take care you...Nicole xoxo

  48. Those pieces are great! That tall cabinet is enviable. Just paint. Those handles to match the dresser and you'll fall in love with them. Although they may need some bonding agent painting over metal. Or you could use chalk paint for your first coat.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You sure have been busy!!! I love that tall, skinny cabinet! Can you believe I have never painted a piece of furniture!!?? I would be OUT in the garden if I could. We are getting record COLD and then another MAJOR storm Sunday. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow ~ you have been busy! Each piece looks beautiful. Love color but the tall cabinet is very nice in white now...and that's unusual for me. :) I do love the red & white chest. The rocker is adorable! I have my favorite grandmother's rocker and it's so very special to me.

The view through your window is just gorgeous...all that sunshine! We had a few days with warmer temps and low 30's this morning. I think if I were you, I'd be outside. :)

  51. You've been unbelievably busy! I love ASCP too, but I've only used the red and white thus far. Isn't it a great thing to set goals and reach them?!

I'm looking forward to seeing that dresser!

  52. All your pieces look great, and what a lot you accomplished! Looking forward to seeing the dresser in Eulalie's Sky, but I'd hit the flea market first!

  53. I love the red rocker. Love all the things you painted. The tall cabinet looks so much better.

Isn't it awful how expensive drawer pulls are?

Just the names of the paint make them sound fun to use.

  54. You've done a great job with your painting. Good luck to you and your endeavours.

Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.

  55. The little rocker is darling in red. I love that we can still see some of your previous primary colours under the new coat in the cabinet next to your sofa.
And please, choose to paint, I can't wait to see the piece!

  56. Carol, you have been so busy . . . I hope you are taking a little time to breath in between projects. Everything you touch turns to pure gold . . . you are so talented.
Isn't it amazing what paint can do? I have never used milk paint . . . do you prefer it to say, Home Depot paint and primer? If we get the cottage ( I think that I told you about it) well, it has a stone fireplace so I'm thinking about painting my electric fireplace white and putting it in a bedroom. The finish on it is a very smooth cherry (probably not real cherry . . . you know, whatever home depot is calling cherry) I think I paid around $400 for it and if it where real cherry I'm sure it would be 5 or 6 times that much. Do you have any suggestions on how to paint it?
I'm a bit afraid of messing it up.
Have a happy week and don't work too hard. You know what they say about all work and no play.
    Keep smiling.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

Thank you for your sweet comment over at my blog. I made the 3D garden inspiration board from wood dowels from the hobby store. It's one of the few places where I can display small decorative items along with some of my art.

  72. Hello dear Carol!
Wow, I am so inspired! I have a few pieces in line for painting at my home, but it's difficult for me to make color decisions...the paint is not cheap, and what if I don't like it? But seeing your beautiful re-workings has given me a little push forward....
I love that red! I never thought AS paint could be so vibrant...beautiful...
Ans that is wild...the minute I saw the photos of the outside...the blue, white, and roses...I though "your home looks like it's in Greece!"...and there you go, the color is Greek blue...absolutely stunning...
    Enjoy!!
Have a lovely weekend (whatever you choose...) :)
Flea market sounds very tempting...but I can't wait to see the dresser finished.
    Hugs,
