On the sidebar of my blog I have this little blurb.
I love that Thoreau quote
and even put it on a pillow.
Until December 13th, I was living the life I imagined and then . . .
we were in a horrific car accident.
I will spare you photos, but suffice it to say that I will always think of Friday the 13th as a lucky day because it's a miracle that we are alive.
For the last 2 months, I have been living a life I didn't imagine, but it gets better every single day.
The first three weeks were BAD and I imagined what I would do once I could move around and use my hand.
It felt wonderful the first time I actually decorated the house - the Christmas decor is still in the garage.
The basket of flowers was arranged with one hand (broke my left hand), the center was with one and a half hands (velcro brace) and the pink roses were arranged on Sunday with both hands.
As you can see, I have started to decorate for Valentine's Day.
The challenge is using whatever I can find in the garage or shed because neither of us can pull down the attic ladder yet.
I am not ready to polish the silver, but maybe next week.
I'm slowly decorating each room in the house
and working in the garden for short spurts of time,
but what amazes me the most is that I am actually typing with my hands on the keys correctly.
I go to occupational therapy twice a week and on Monday, I would never have imagined that my baby finger would work voluntarily today - even yesterday was a struggle.
In December, I could not even imagine working in the garden
or walking Lulu on the beach.
But as I said at the beginning of my post, each day is easier and we just booked a flight to visit our little grandsons.
I am back living the life I imagined - just slower for a few more months!
Oh, my dear!!! I am so sorry! I rejoice with you that youe are improving more and more each day and will be saying a prayer for you and yours. I have loved ad admired your life for several years now and am thrilled you will continue to live it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are continuing to heal ~ It was nice to see you pop up in my mail box!

ReplyDeleteOh dear, when my blogger friends seem to disappear I always think they are just taking a break. You are the second of them to report having been in a terrible car accident in December and are now just getting back into the life that you once lived. So very happy to hear you are on the mend! Take care. Sending hugs, Jackie
ReplyDeleteI am so sad to hear about your terrible accident. Thank goodness you both survived! It may not be the life you imagined for the past few months, but it sounds like you have new appreciation going forward. Enjoy that time with those gorgeous grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteCarol, it is SO good to see a post from you again - and to hear about your progress in healing, too. I'm sure it feels wonderful to be able to putter around your house and gardens again and decorate. I think about you and Steve all the time and keep you both in my prayers for continued healing.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to see you back again and on the mend. Enjoy your time with your Grandchildren. Thelma.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I'm so very sorry you all went through this. I know what a life altering experience something like this can be. I just now found out, and went back through your IG. So glad you're on the mend and feeling well enough to drive. Sending prayers for complete and speedy healing and recovery!
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to see you blogging and to hear about your improvements. It must feel freeing. The house looks beautiful as always!
Happy to hear you're going to visit the grandbabies.
Cindy
So sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are recovering - you sound determined and upbeat. Visiting your grandchildren will be the best medicine for sure! Take care!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! What a shock for you. So glad to hear you are on the mend. It must be comforting to get back to doing things which give you pleasure. Take it easy with the sweet boys.
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed to have come through it together, and it sounds like you are appreciative of every day you have. I'm glad to hear that recovery is going well. Your life will be perfect again, but I doubt you will ever be able to take it for granted. Thank you for sharing this as we all need reminders to stop and smell (or arrange as in your case) the flowers! I'm 2 months passed the loss of my husband and trying to find my way to normal. Your post helped me to remember I must be grateful for what I had and start looking forward to the future. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI am rejoicing with you over the news of your healing...so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful and everything is looking fabulous!
Carol, I've been thinking of you often and am so glad to hear that you're doing well and starting to feel more like yourself. I have missed your blog posts and love that you're returning in the season of love...and I'm sending you lots of it, my friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteCarol, this is a wonderful post! Seriously touched my heart, dear friend! I'm so grateful that you and Steve are doing well after this horrible accident. I've missed your posts and happy to see you back living your life. Much love sent your way!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocking accident and a blessing you are healing and able to do the simple things that bring us joy, like flower arranging. Your photos show so many pretty scenes.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
ReplyDeleteGood to see you pop up in my email and glad you can type and post again. Healing is slow but you sound like you are getting there with patience and persistence. Glad you are planning a trip to see the boys. I know that will cheer you up. Love seeing you getting into decorating for Valentine's Day. Big hugs.
Kris
I’m so sorry to hear of your accident! What a blessing both of you are recovering and it sounds like you are celebrating each day. Slow and steady and lots of grandkid hugs are the best therapy. Zenda
ReplyDeleteCarol, I'm sad to hear of your horrific accident. It's amazing what the human body can overcome, and I am grateful you were able to do just that. I hope Steve is doing just as well as you, and I hope neither of you suffer any traumatic triggers as a result of the accident. I'm sure some of your best medicine has been with family, including Lulu, caring deeply for you. Visiting your beautiful family will be just reward for the journey in healing.
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, I'm deeply, deeply sorry you have had to experience this; grateful you are alive and recovering, however slowly. It sounds grim and frightening, both physically and emotionally. I hope your husband is also recovering well. It resets our whole thinking, doesn't it, as to what it takes to "do a day," to do things we love. Every movement counts. I trust your healing will continue each and every day and send love and good wishes for full recoveries for you both.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you're back on the blog. Love the pics, you're definitely making progress! Carol, I had my left hand broken in 2019, and it has taken quite a long while to heal. Only just recently have been able to type using my pinky finger, which still won't join the other three fingers on that hand. So sorry about that horrible accident! Is Steve able to paint still?
ReplyDeleteHow awful!! I'm glad to hear that things are improving with you - how is Steve? May you both recover fully without too much pain and suffering. Sending hugs and prayers xox
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see you back posting again! It truly is a day at a time. I learned that with my ankle. But you're able to do some of the things that you love and that will boost your spirits. As will seeing your grandsons. Know I'm thinking about you and hoping your health is restored quickly.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Carol,
ReplyDeleteIt was such a thrill to see your post in my in-box this morning! I am so happy that you are doing better each day! I have been and will continue to pray for you and your husband. You decorating looks beautiful! I especially love the screen with the hearts hanging on it and the little pots of baby roses. The family photo with your grandsons is beautiful! So very happy that you are back to blogging. I missed your posts!
Terry
I am so very sorry to read this but so happy you are doing well and improving. WOW! God was surely watching over you both. Love all the photos. Hope to see more of your posts pop up. Praying for total healing. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are recovering. Just don't overdo. God bless you !!!!
ReplyDeleteI too am so sorry to hear about that car accident. I had been wondering where you were and what you had been up to. When we are hurt, and can't get around or use an arm or hand or leg, etc., it brings it forward to us how much we take for granted our wonderful bodies that work so beautifully when we are "well". I am thankful for you both that you came through a car accident without life threatening injuries. I hope you both will continue to heal and recover, both mentally and physically, and be able to live life as you imagined as you move forward. Your photos are beautiful and I'm happy to see you gaining some ability and motivation to decorate for "love" day! Blessings to you both! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you and your husband are doing much better Carol. You have such a beautiful house and have fun with the decorating but please be careful. It's nice to get out for the walks too with your dog. Take it easy and glad you can type now. Hugs, Julie xo
ReplyDeleteIt's so good hear that you are feeling better. Hands - we take them for granted until all of a sudden we have a problem with them. Your decorating is looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see a post from you!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your accident, and I am sending you all good wishes for recovery and peace of mind. I’m glad that you’re starting to get your hand back...please keep us posted.
So sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you are feeling some better and are blogging again. Take care and know that my prayers are with you and your husband. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteCarol, I was thinking about you the other day, wondering why there hasn't been any posts from you for awhile. I am so sorry to hear about the accident, but thank heaven you are both OK now. That must have been very hard to get back to normalcy. That is something that we never think about and tend to think it could never happen until it does. I'm so glad you are doing better now and take care..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're doing better! xo
ReplyDeleteLove it all...happy weekend Ria 💕
ReplyDeleteBless your heart Carol. So thankful you are okay. May you get better each new day. We never know what life will hand us. Take care, blessings to all, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteHello Carol...I knew you hadn't posted for some time, and I was very happy to see the post today from you. I am indeed sorry though for the reason you haven't been around for a while. Such an awful traumatic thing to go through. I'll be keeping you both in prayer for continued healing.
ReplyDeleteMy sweet friend, The day that Steve told of your accident, I was brought to tears. You two are such a dear and wonderful couple, and I hated the thought of either of you suffering such a terrible event. But here you are, rising from the experience with grace and grit. You continue to be an example of how we all should live...shining your light through a dark time. Love you both so much! xo, Kristi
ReplyDeleteCarol, I am so sorry to hear the news about your accident, but delighted to hear of your progress. I do hope that Steve is okay as well.
ReplyDeleteYou are both in my prayers.
PS you do more in your beautiful home with your injury than I do any time of the year.
Carol, I am so glad that you are getting back to living the life you imagined! That certainly was a scary event. Your home is always lovely and all of the flower arrangements are beautiful in their own way! Wishing you a Happy Valentines Day.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
