This morning I read a post by Stacey of Poofing the Pillows titled "When It Feels Like Your Creativity and Motivation Are Just Gone!" - Stacey has a good excuse because they are in the process of building a house.
I on the other hand have projects waiting like painting the back porch and sewing new covers for the chaises in the garden, but I can't seem to push myself.
So, rather than tackle one of the big ticket items on my list, I headed to Trader Joe's.
These days my creativity seems to be limited to photography
and I decided to buy flowers and have fun simply styling them and taking pictures.
5 different bouquets of flowers became the props for playing with my camera.
I keep seeing pics on Instagram with a bag of flowers hanging on a hook - this is my version.
Another pic I see is flowers (in some sort of container) on a chair - I like my massive lavender plant peeking out in the background.
This spring, bicycle baskets filled with flowers catch my eye on IG - I staged mine in front of a favorite house in my neighborhood knowing that the out of town owners wouldn't be around.
After snapping the photos, I had to find homes for the flowers - I think my new pig on wheels makes a nice accompaniment to the daisies.
The vignette I set up last week before we headed to Sacramento to visit our daughter was looking really sad,
so I spiffed it up with the purple freesia - at least I think that's what the flowers are!
I have loads of asparagus fern in the garden,
but it's a pain to sweep up and the carnations seem to last forever.
I added left over greenery to this bowl on the dining room - Lulu was a bad girl when we were in Sacramento and ate my new air plants that were sitting in the bowl.
Taking photographs is being creative! It's one of my true loves. I love, love your vignettes!

You are being creative with your beautiful photo's and flowers.
ReplyDeleteLulu is punishing you for not taking her with you. They can sure make us feel bad, can't they? Since I don't work anymore my are rotten and give me the eye if I stay out to long. LOL
Your home always looks so nice, warm and welcoming. Have fun making your chaise covers. You are not alone, there are days that I don't want to do anything and my creative juices have dried up.
Enjoy our great weather. Waldo and Lili send woof's to Lulu.

What a breath of fresh air Carol, I needed a break and you provided a lovely one. Thanks.

Beautiful job Carol! I want your bike!!!!! I really love the flowers in a bag hung from a rack as well. Lovely touches :)
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH- that LULU!!! She's a LULU alright! lol
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are beautiful and sometimes that is the best art form ever. I am not much at it and don't even have a decent camera but you take lovely photos.
Hope you have a great rest of the week. xo Diana
Hi Carol, great fabric choices for your chaise and pillows. Your photography is truly beautiful, I wouldn't be surprised to find that you are showing it in a gallery show one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThe camera has become my best friend, I MEAN IT! Oh Carol, I can tell you stories about how photography has changed my artistic direction. I still intend to make a book with my poetry, and photography is the niche I found to do so. What I've been loving is having a bouquet of flowers to enjoy in a vase, then as they wilt, to use them in other capacities, and get as much out of them in photos. I follow a young Japanese photographer on IG that makes the best flat flower photos. There's another way to use flowers!
ReplyDeleteThe season of magic is upon us. Here in Minneapolis, it's still a tad cool, but yesterday was sunny and promising. Keep that camera battery charged!
Oh gosh, you are so sweet and so wise! When our creativity wanes maybe we should just pick one thing to focus on! Flowers are the perfect place to start.
ReplyDeleteNothing you have ever done looks sad. Just want you to know that! :)

ReplyDeleteYour vignettes inspire me always and those fresh flowers...gorgeous! Enjoy and I hope it inspires more creativity. I'm in such a blog slump but hoping Spring will give me a boost! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love looking at photos of your home! Styling flowers for photography is so much fun! I need to play with my big Canon camera again. I've gotten lazy and only use my phone now. What color of white did you use when you painted your walls? Everything really shows up nicely with your walls since you lightened them. Your home and photography are beautiful. -Sandy from Leminlanefreshrestyled
