I absolutely loved this look in our guest room, but I wanted to hang some supplies on the wall and I did not want to tap nail holes all over the fresh paint.
In December we bought an old door at Habitat Restore for $35, but it stayed in storage until this week.
What took me so long in dealing with the door was not knowing how to "age" it.
I finally just laid the door across some saw horses in the garden, slapped on stripper and waited to see what happened.
Then came the fun part.
The door and the table hold a conglomeration of crafting supplies
and things that simply make me smile -
like my MacKenzie Childs sock purse hung in honor of Rita of Panoply and Sarah of Hyacinths for the Soul.
The doorknob has no function - I bought it for our pantry door, but it didn't fit and finally I have a spot for it.
With no one staying in the guest room
and no one expected in the near future,
I can simply leave things out on the table.
But when company arrives, they will have a pretty view out the window
and lots of "eye candy".
Now, I need to head outside and get busy in the garden
because Jann of Have a Daily Cup of Mrs. Olson and I have joined up with the sweet ladies of Thoughts of Home for a Garden Party which begins on April 25.
I guess I was wrong - the guest room does have an occupant, but I don't think she even notices I brought in an old door!

Yes, I think your current occupant is very happy with or without the door but I really love it. Old doors just have so much character and you had such a good idea to use it for hanging your supplies. Charming and functional at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT idea! Love the look and use of old and new quirky things to make this room truly your creative space.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy ~ FlowerLady
Oh my goodness, Carol! I love your door and all its decor, but when I saw that sock purse hanging in its first photo, I enlarged it to see it better...only to find your closeup shot next - thank you for that! I love it all, but you know I love that purse!
ReplyDeleteI'm so ready for summer break-- I've got a list as long as my arm of things that need done around here. Organizing my craft room is on that list ...STILL!
ReplyDeleteand it grows...
I love your door/wall. Its perfect. The sock purse is a new one. Never seen one of those. But the 'enter' on the door... Eye catching. Your guest will no doubt find it interesting to see, if you get any.
Have fun outside!
I love what you did with the door! That's pretty brilliant, I must say. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks friend for joining Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
Carol, this is genius! Not only no holes in your wall, but what a pretty way to frame the sweet things that you have hung here. Even when you decide to change it up, the nail holes in the door will add to the shabby worn look. You're a mastermind!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea . . . now I need to find a door. Better find a yard sale, like I really need an reason to do that, LOL.
Happy weekend . . . thanks for sharing.
Connie :)
Carol, I love the idea of a door and no holes in the walls! It also just looks charming! Such fun ideas you have!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
Such a good idea and beautiful room.
ReplyDeleteThat door is just perfect where you placed it! I love how you have "decorated" it, too. Absolutely charming. I love the curtains in that guest bedroom, by the way.
ReplyDeleteVERY clever!!! And utterly adorable, too ~
ReplyDeletePerfect!! Now I want an old door!! And a puppy. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just want to come visit and hear about all of your treasures and projects.
ReplyDeleteWhat a haven you have created.
I look forward to co - hostessing our Garden Party April 25th.

Carol, Your dog likes the view. :):) That door is wonderful. I love how you made it into a beautiful view point. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThis is a great way to re-use a door, and save a wall finish! So pretty and functional, too...and it gives the room some architectural detail!
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever and absolutley beautiful as well. I love it and am trying to figure out where I could do wsomething similar. :)
ReplyDeleteLove where you placed the door and what you hung on it. There are 5 days out in the garage, two original to the house, the rest finds... My problem is I have NO wall space...gosh if I only had some walls. I also like not putting holes in the walls because every time I do I hear plaster boards falling off the laths..
ReplyDeleteCarol you go girl ... Paint stripper works well but needs lots of ventilation so outside in your garden must of made the project very enjoyable. I think your idea is brilliant with using the door for organization. We too are working currently on our art zone in the center of our basement and we are exploring storage. Going with industrial chic and adding a few industrial antiques. Seems no matter what size someone's house is clever storage reins supreme. Your solution rocks! Miss Lulu sure knows how to relax like a princess, lol. I think who ever stays in your guest room will enjoy all the eye candy and design.

Someone very furry and cute seems to really like that room!! So sweet!!

Oh, that DOOR! It would be fabulous just on its own, but with all of the interesting items on it, it is art! Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteCarol, this is a fun idea to say the least. You are so clever and creative. Of course I love the darling sock coin purse dedicated to Rita and me. '-) The door knob can certainly be a good spot to hang something on. I love the eclectic mix of objects. You are a girl after my own heart. This is a fun guest room!
ReplyDeleteAgain, you've given me great ideas! Loved this post and that creative juice that flows through you!
ReplyDeleteI love the door and the way you are using it. xoox Su
ReplyDeleteCAROL! This is a great idea! No holes in the wall, and an extra feature of texture and function! BRAVO!!!!! Oh how I love your cottage. Happy day dear heart!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It was a super idea to use the door!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea! Never would have thought of that, and the decor on it just spices up your crafting space. Great job!

Carol, what a genius idea...love the door! If you have a guest, I think they just might stay a while in that lovely setting! Pam @ Everyday Living
ReplyDeleteyour use of the fabulous olden door is spot on...handy for supplies while it looks AWESOME....
ReplyDeleteI love how that turned out! I think it looks better with the door than if you had hung things on the wall without it. It works the same way that a tray on a table does, holding all of the misc things. The doorknob you added gives it so much character too.
ReplyDeleteThe guest room is really welcoming. I love the sheer curtains on the window and the old door is te perfect addition.
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday, Carol! Thank you for stopping by the blog!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Carol! And it looks so cottagey and vintagey and Caroley!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the door and how you decorated it! It really is sweet and fun. I certainly would enjoy staying in that room.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect solution! I love this idea and all your pretty treasures decorating your new "old" door.
ReplyDeleteCarol, the door turned out perfectly and you have it filled with marvelous treasures. Isn't if fun when something just happens to turn out like you'd hoped? I'm looking forward to the garden party. Going with an entirely new color in the garden this year.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
LOVE how the door turned out. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteI think that was a fairly brilliant idea! It looks amazing and I love the distressing on the door.
ReplyDeleteVery nice use of the old door.
ReplyDeletePerfect solution for storage. I love the old door and what a cute idea to put the bicycle with flowers in the basket right outside the bedroom window. So creative!
ReplyDeleteI love how you aged your door! I have one that needs something....I will have to try your method. It looks so great on the wall. What a fun place to sit and create for awhile.
ReplyDeleteThe door looks great. Lulu might notice the changes lol
ReplyDeleteGreat way of avoiding holes in the wall
Love. The. Door. You're going to have a big problem because your guests won't ever leave.
