Easy Changes

I am trying to avoid crafts that involve heavy use of my hands so this week's projects were just easy changes around the house.

The red cart in the entry got a new look in blues and yellows

to match the dishes in the cabinet.

The cabinet doors have been closed since November when I put the cabinet in the entry, but I wanted to see a little more color in the entry.

I posted the pic above on Instagram and had more than 50 comments suggesting that I keep the cabinet doors open,

But, this is what the cabinet looks like today.

You might notice from Steve's comment above that he had a definite opinion.

Steve pretty much lets me do what I want when it comes to decorating

so when my "sweet love" makes a request, the least I can do is honor it!

After removing all traces of Valentine's Day from the entry, it was time to work on the guest room.

The room is a work in progress as I figure out just what supplies I have space for in the house and what needs to stay in the garage.

As you can see, the "desk" is just a narrow table, but it can hold a lot of supplies.

I hung an old window above the desk

with lyrics from the song, What A Wonderful World.

The window was part of the decorations for my son's wedding last summer and the lyrics are from the song we danced to during the mother/son dance.

My grandmother's school slate

and an old metal heart hang on the window for now, but I imagine things will change frequently.

I'm still working on filling this little cabinet

and this box (one of my father's tool boxes) with supplies.

The dresser will hold supplies and that bare space on the dresser is where I made all my Valentine projects - before I hurt my hand.

This box (another item from my son's wedding), made by Betsy of My Salvaged Treasures, holds ribbons.

And my grandmother's sewing box holds a variety of tools.

I am slowly filling this cabinet with things I will need for crafting

By the time my hand is fully healed,

this room should be ready for me to be creative.

  3. I love all the crisp white with little pops of color! Our youngest daughter and my hubby danced to that song at her wedding, too. I get teary eyed just thinking about it.

Funny about your hubby's comment regarding the cupboard doors!

  4. Whatever you show us, it just looks perfect. However, I would leave the doors open to see all the gorgeous contents :) I would love to fill my home with such individual pieces and one day I will put my foot down and insist on it!! Have a wonderful weekend xx

  5. Who wouldn't love your little cottage by the sea?! It has such a joyous atmosphere and exudes "Welcome." How wonderful (and enviable) that you have your grandmother's school slate.

  7. What a wonderful world ... love how you wrote that on the window. Everything looks great in blue and yellow. Tell Steve we think we got his point but, just to clarify, how does he really feel about the cabinet doors being open? haha

  8. Carol, I must say that the inside of the cabinet is stunning with the pops of yellow china in it. But I truly laughed out loud when I read that comment from a fellow named Steve at your house. :):) Wishing you both a great weekend. I do love all your cute make overs. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  9. I'm sure the frequent changes you make in small details in your home is good, seriously, for your brain. Changes are good, especially as yours are so pretty!

  13. I love the cabinet open since the display of blue and yellow is beautiful, but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep the hubs happy. :-)
Did you make the wire art that's strung across the window? Really liking that.
And, of course, swooning over Steve's art in the guest room.
    Have a great weekend!

  16. I love seeing everything that you are up too! I like the cabinet open but I agree that what your significant other like is a huge consideration as well.

I hope that you are feeling better. Have a great weekend.

    I need to do that!

  19. I love your cabinet and items within! The blue and yellow dishes remind me of French Quimperware. Perhaps you can keep it open from time to time? Your guest room is filled with such wonderful and meaningful vintage items. I loved the window that has the "wonderful world" quote on it. What a nice keepsake from your son's wedding!

  20. Oh Carol, everything looks so fresh and lovely. You make me want to paint my rooms bright cheery colors. I have tans, some navy, dark green etc. It works, but I've had the same color scheme for quite awhile.

Truly, it's hard to change colors once you have a theme- even if everything is second-hand. I don't know how to go about it.

    Blessings,
    Laura

  21. I love so much about this post, Carol.

You for one, are so full of energy, a creative force to watch. I can easily see your middle school training; your ability to be flexible, make things work for the environment around you, and make it FUN. I think a few of us on IG have been on the same wavelength this week about making small changes for LARGE impact. I think we can still get our satisfaction without spending too much hand energy or money. Great results!

HEY! Thank you for coming to my blog post! YES, for the longest time, no matter what I did, I could not get my comments to turn on! I pushed the right button AGAIn, I guess, this last time, and it's great to see friends come around again. Yes my friend, I hope you will be able to see where I am going next with my photography...I hope I will be able to see that TOO!!!!!!!

  22. Oh Carol a visit always makes me feel happy and hugged. You are amazing and an energizer bunny for sure. Gotta say I love the cabinet doors open - it's a visual feast for the eyes. But closed looks clean and uncluttered so both work. Day by day your hand will heal and recover and you will be back enjoying your crafting room and all the fun supplies as you craft in creative bliss.
    xoxo,
    Vera

  26. All the things you do have such personality...and your ideas always spur me to change things around, bring out things I haven't used in a long time...you inspire so much inspiration and I use so many of your ideas on my decorating. Mine isn't anywhere nearly as cute as yours, but, I'm working on it. I just need to find my talent...and creativity so I can make some cute things...at this olden age, I am pretty sure I'll never find it...BOO

  27. I am with BJ. In fact she said it best - you do inspire with your use of wonderful memorabilia and new found treasures.

  28. Oh I was thinking when I read this post that you should keep the doors open on your hutch all the time and enjoy the pretty treasures it holds. :)

  29. Carol, you are an inspiration to all of us with your vignettes and changing things around in your beautiful cottage.

I liked the doors open so you can see your pretties, but closed looks okay too.

I see that Lulu like the bed in the guest room, or is she watching you to see what your doing.

Rest your hand so you can get back to doing the things that you love.

Looks like a terrific weekend, but here comes the hot weather again, on Monday.

  35. I love the cabinet either way, but I see that your spouse likes it closed. If I left a cabinet open around here with my spouse, it is almost a sure thing that he will bang his head. He's not even tall, but someone he walks into so many things. xoox

  37. I remember that Instagram post, it looked like a magazine shot. So beautiful and I would opt for open doors, too. However, my hubby is like yours, he lets me do as I please with the house, so when he has a request, which is rare, I try to comply. Our cottage is small and while I may be willing to walk around things and duck for the sake of pretty, he may not be...and I get it! ;) Feel good!!

  38. I had to giggle about the open doors and Steve's opinion which he posted. I loved seeing the blue and yellow of the dishes on the shelves, but can understand the closed door look. ;-)
Your house is a happy one, Carol. Take care of that hand.

  39. Doors open or doors closed, your entryway is a delight for the eyes. Did you use a sharpie pen to write on the old window?

  40. It is amazing what you can do even with a bad hand. I have been dealing with a broken arm for the past 7 months (it didn't heal) so I can relate to how you must feel. Enjoy your Sunday!!

  42. Hi Carol, I love the open cupboard and with the blue and yellow dishes in it makes it perfect. Your home is so amazing and you are so talented.

  44. I do like the doors to your cabinet open so you can see all your pretties. Just moving things around a bit always makes a home feel fresh again. You have such a cheerful style, Carol, that would drive away the blues of anyone entering.

  52. Love the colorful cheer of your home...and the sun sure does help! Even though you are taking it easy you sure get a lot done. After reading your post I always feel so lazy... It seems like I spend more time on the computer than I do things around the Charmer. I love open cabinetry but hubs isn't big on it either. Everything has to be covered. I so covet your cart in the hall way..

    ReplyDelete
  53. The amount you accomplish always astounds me and then when you do it with one hand - amazing! You truly CAN decorate a room with one hand tied behind your back.

  54. Carol, I am smiling at Steve's comment. End of discussion made me chuckle. You are a sweet wife! Hubby pretty much let's me do what I want as well. I'm the cook so I have a little more say as to what I leave open. lol! You have such an amazing following on IG. It's surely because your feed is as fabulous as your blog! I love all of the vintage treasures you have that have been passed down from family. Not only are they pretty, but extra special as well! Hope your hand heals quickly. Are you okay to do SYC this week?
