In January, a neighbor asked if we could help him out by taking an old bench off his hands.
It has been sitting next to the garage, but this week it finally got a permanent home.
I can't believe how long it took me to move the bench to the backyard.
The first thing I had to do was find a new home for the enamel topped table.
After 17 years of living in this house, it finally occurred to me to put my grandmother's farm table in the kitchen.
Steve is loving the extra work space.
The patio has a new look
as does the kitchen.
The living room also got a new look - this cabinet came out of the kitchen to make room for the table and as soon as I can settle on a color, it will get a fresh coat of chalk paint.
But, it is difficult to think about painting when it is so gorgeous outside.
I will end with a great big THANK YOU for all the kind comments and well wishes about my hand problem.
My computer is back at home with a brand new screen and the time away from the computer helped a lot.
I see another specialist today and hope to know more about solutions.
I am happy to hear your hand is doing well and I hope you get some answers today. All your changes look great. I love those old enamel topped tables. I look forward to seeing your paint choice for the cabinet in the living room. Have a fantastic Friday.
ReplyDeleteLooks really lovely - I am a big fan of the outside chair - nice!
DeleteIt is fun to change things around, and you have made some lovely changes.
ReplyDeleteI hope your hand gets better.

ReplyDeleteWELCOME HOME, CAROL!
ReplyDeleteI am so thrilled to see you here, back to your fabulous craft and gifted talent to arrange a house into a home. Your grandmother's table looks PERFECT in the kitchen and the bench has the most appropriate place. Now you can really have another sitting view in that special garden of yours!
I am happy to hear you are back in the saddle in front of the computer, and that your hand is getting a bit better. Hoping that more therapy options will get you back to normal.
So good to come here with you! Anita
It's always fun to change things around in the house. Your house is so nice and the bench is so nice and hope you both enjoy it. Have a nice Friday and weekend.
ReplyDeleteJulie

ReplyDeleteI love changing things around. Enjoy the sunshine!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear your hand is feeling better. Love the new kitchen corner and the bench is stunning! Get outside - painting can wait!!!!! xox
ReplyDeleteCarol, your pretty colors always make me smile. Enjoy the weather and good luck with the hand!
ReplyDeleteI love love love looking at pictures of your sweet home. It always makes me dream of living in year round warmth and sunshine. Love it- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love the bench, you are lucky to get it. Love what you are doing to your home.
ReplyDeleteYour home is just so sweet and inviting. I love it all.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what it's like for someone as creative as you to have a hand that isn't 100%. Take care of it and do as the doctor says. :)
Funny how the acquisition of one new piece makes everything else fall into place. That bench was made for your patio. But that little table couldn't have found a better spot than where you have it now! Of course it belonged in the kitchen, and it looks so cheery with the red striped bowl and all that colour around it. Great rearranging :)
ReplyDeleteWendy
I love where you placed everything! It makes complete sense to use those pieces there too. I bet it's difficult to try to rest your hand. Guess it makes you realize how much use your hands everyday. I hope that you get some good recommendations from your doctor so you can get all healed up!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you're having hand problems....I hope it's just too much use and will heal. I'm wondering how long it will be before you're painting that bench! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI adore your enamel topped table. That's the prettiest I've ever seen and love it with the shelves above. I "pinned" it to my kitchen board. Love your decorating.
Love the enamel top farm table! Hope your feeling better!
ReplyDelete19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)))
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice neighbor to give you that bench! I'd love one like that to put in the backyard by my butterfly garden. The enamel-topped red table looks perfect in your kitchen. I love that it belonged to your grandmother. Hope all goes well at the doctor today!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I like the farm table in your kitchen. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteGlad the hand is improving. Take care!
It is so true that bringing in one new thing continues in a trickle down effect throughout the home. Love the table in the kitchen! So glad to hear your hand is a bit better and wishing continued healing. I would be outside if the sun was shining here also!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
You have such a wonderful knack for design and color. I adore your home and love reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, I am so happy to hear that you are seeing a specialist today, I waited too long with my hand. If I had gone to a specialist I am told that my hand would be like new. There are so many nerves endings in the hands and unless they're a specialist, they really won't totally understand the importance, and as we get older, we do not bounce back like youngsters anymore. Your changes around the house are wonderful. Isn't it funny how bringing in one new item, means that every thing in the home has to move over and make room. I really like your grandma's table in the kitchen. It looks like it found a great new home there. Your Steve may never want you to move it again :)
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you the best doctor visit ever . . . we'll all be anticipating a good report :)
Connie
Amiga,sua casa é muito fofa.Bom fim de semana.Beijo.Valéria.

ReplyDeleteLove the farm table in the kitchen, what a brilliant idea. You sure have friends with great things to give away, looks great all decorated up.
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, your home and garden are JUST what I needed to see today! Our snow is already starting to melt, the river has receded a couple of feet, and I just know that spring is coming - soon.

Carol, I love that table in the kitchen! It's just perfect. How nice to have the new bench and fun to move things around. Change is always good. I'm glad you got your computer back and hope your hand will improve soon. Enjoy that California sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI love the changes. Amazing isn't it, what a few tweaks will do? Look forward to seeing the new color of the now living room cabinet. Glad your hand is improved.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeletePart deux of the bench will enrich your cottage and its placement is perfect. Love the changes in your kitchen (table looks perfect in its spot) and the cabinet being moved. But best of all is that you are back in Blogland with a computer repair and I'm sending you kisses to your hand, Hope the specialist can offer you much relief.
xoxo,
Vera

I LOVE that red/white bowl on your grandmother's table, it's gorgeous, I kind of have a thing for red/white bowls!! Hoping your doctor appointment went well and you were able to get a new treatment plan put together! Blessings for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend! Cindy
ReplyDeleteLove the bench and your grandmother's farmhouse table!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
Hey Carol, love the bench. It looks great in it's new home. I have a farm table like yours, just a different color. I have mine sitting on the porch to our shop, flanked by a rocking chair. Seeing yours makes me want to paint mine. Oh, and it looks great in it's new home, too. Hope you get good news on your hand. Talk soon!
ReplyDeleteCarol, you have the prettiest little cottage with oh so many artistic touches - everywhere!
ReplyDeleteYour eye for colour and detail is incredible.
I love the bench and you've found the perfect spot for it!

I love how the farm table looks in the kitchen. Isn't it fun when something prompts one of those ah-ha moments!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with seeing another doctor. Everything looks great and send some sum and warmth to NJ
ReplyDeleteCindy
Oh, your outdoor pictures look so sunny and gorgeous! It will be nice to have that cute bench to lounge and soak up that beautiful weather! I've just done some shuffling around myself, still not sure where everything will land.
ReplyDeletexo Sally
How did you make those fancy red thank you letters? Anyway, the table looks perfect in the kitchen. Now you have me wondering what color the cabinet is going to be. Nice neighbors to give you that bench.
ReplyDeleteThe table looksgreat in the kitchen. I love the way you move one thing to a new place, another to another new place and just come up with such nice looks :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you got some good news.
Hope you got some answers to help you with your hand Carol. And your grandmother's table looks stunning in the kitchen! And what a score on the bench!! Looks perfect outside in your garden! Amazing when things fit in perfectly isn't it??!!? Thinking of you...take care buddy! Nicole xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and the decorative style of your house. It is so cosy and welcoming!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your hand , I hope the specialist to give you the advice and solutions you
need.
Have a nice Sunday.
Tina
Loving the changes in your charming little cottage!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love moving furniture around and am always thrilled when I realize that I have gained more space or that a piece should have been in this or that place all along! Glad your computer is up and running again! Saw your win over at Suzan's...sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have created the effect of a hutch with that table by going up the walls with shelving and using a basket underneath. My Granny had a table like that, but I think hers was white with red trim. Being the red lover I am, I really love yours red!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful garden bench!! Who could have turned that down? It's so fun to be able to move a couple of pieces around to get a fresh new look.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
I love your grandmother's table in the kitchen and your outdoor weather as well ! :) And that bench....who wouldn't want it? :) Take care / hope the specialist has an easy plan for you.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks fantastic....lovely!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, take care!
Titti
I wish I'd been able to hang onto an enamel topped cabinet we had when I was a child, I guess I didn't appreciate old furniture enough then. The changes you've made are great and the bench looks so welcoming.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the rest has helped your hand and hopefully you'll have some good news soon.
Good luck at the doctor's appointment. I hope your hand is well on the way to recovery. I am so impressed by the changes you keep making. You are very artistic and have a wonderful eye. I can't wait to see what colour you paint your chest of drawers, though I think it looks wonderful in its original distressed off-white colour. I look forward to seeing what other changes you'll be making over the coming months.
ReplyDeleteCarol, you have such a bright and cheerful home. I like all the changes you have made and it makes one feel good to move things around. Change is as good as a rest, they say! Glad you have your computer back and I hope your hand will be as good as new soon. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Love that new bench, Carol! What a nice gift! The farm table looks wonderful in your kitchen and I am sure the new living room addition will be redone in no time. I am sorry that I missed reading, about your hand problem, but was glad to read that it is improving. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the tour and am now daydreaming about your lovely weather. Although it has warmed up a bit (20s & low 30s) here on the other side of the continent we are majoring in gloom today.
ReplyDeleteYour grandmothers table looks like it has found a perfect spot.
I love what you did with your grandmother's table. It's perfect inside your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with your grandmother's table. It's perfect inside your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSometimes all a space really needs to make it feel fresh, even before paint or artwork or flowers is simply relocating furniture. You pretty home always looks so fresh and airy, regardless, but the changes you did make added that extra touch! I so hope your hand is getting better, Carol. Take care!!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Wow, what lovely weather and it's nice to see around your home. I really like the bright colours.
ReplyDeleteI do hope when you've seen the specialist about your hand you may have some more solutions.
All the best Jan.
My husband and I both have arthritis in our fingers, in January we had the shots...thank God for them but I'd rather have labor pains than to have those shots, so painful !!!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful and I'm always amazed at the colors and how well they go with everything!
Admiring all the changes!
ReplyDeleteEnvy for the enamel table ... If I ever land one- CENTER ISLAND!!!!
I do watch out for them. It's nice you have your grandmothers.
I hope your hand will get better so you can paint again! Obvisouly the buffet next to the sofa is in need of some colour (you know I love it as it is and I know you'll want some colour!)
ReplyDeleteSun? What's that? It's been so long since I've seen sun it's depressing. I love that enamel topped table from your grandmother. It cracked me up when you said "I never thought about putting in the kitchen"
ReplyDeleteAs always your home is warm and inviting.
Your grandmother's table just gave me an idea of what to do for an island in my kitchen. Hopefully I can find one as nice.
ReplyDeleteI hope your hand is doing better.
xo
