When I was cleaning out my classroom after 24 years at the school, I debated on whether to take the stool with me.
I painted the stool with checks and stars about 15 years ago and had it in the corner of the dining room holding a plant.
When we put in the window seat, there was no room for the stool so off to school it went.
I am glad I didn't leave the stool behind because yesterday I came up with an idea for it.
The stool looks so big in the garden because I had to put it on top of the table to keep Lulu away.
A quick coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Greek Blue and some sanding turned a has been into an updated model.
When I updated our bedroom just 11 days ago, I did not have a little puppy who might knock over a vase of flowers.
The stool sits next to the bed and dried hydrangeas that don't need water make a more practical arrangement.
A basket full of magazines sits on top and books sit on the rungs of the stool.
An old stool . . . a little paint . . . a new look.
I haven't decided what to do with my green chair.
That is a project for another day.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

It looks nice and what a good repurpose for it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a wonderful transformation! I love the color and it looks great in the room. I love the use of the wire basket for magazines. I keep seeing wire baskets but resist buying them because I can't think of a good use for them. I love this idea! Your blog, crafts and home are always so fun to see and so inspiring. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute stool!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't leave it behind. I like the arrangement with the basket of books and the dried flowers.
Very practical where the pup is concerned.

You chose such a pretty color for your makeover! That stool turned out great :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!!!

I can see quite clearly that you were and ALWAYS WILL BE, a teacher.
ReplyDeleteTo take a thing of beauty and help to transform it is what a teacher has to do, whether it's for a lesson, a subject, or a person. I LOVE how this stool looks with the Greek blue (what a fabulous color) but then to put it as a table in the room is brilliant.
I LOVE FOLLOWING YOU!
Can I put myself in a little box
ReplyDeletesend it oversea and have you transform ME ......
I wish ........
Cute, cute and you can do so many things with the stool and paint and repaint it like I have mine. :)
ReplyDeleteAlways so clever, Carol! I do like the new paint job, but I love the way you angled the books to fit on the bottom of the stool. Every time I read your blog, I am amazed at your new ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love the new paint color and how you are using it. Brilliant idea:)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love the way you've decorated it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Pam
Your blog is wonderful and I love everything. thanks for commenting on my blog . I love your use of color and the beautiful art.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you didn't leave the stool in your classroom. Love the color and the height of it. Great idea stacking the books on the rungs! I know I'll be using that idea for sure.

This is perfect in your redecorated bedroom. I think I like it even better than the green chair. I like the wire basket for the magazines, too. Gosh, you fill my head with ideas.
ReplyDeleteI like the chalk paint affect.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful use of a perfectly good little stool. It has memomries for you too. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteCarol, you always have JUST the right idea for each of your projects and your classroom stool, with its new Greek Blue and older hues is no exception! It almost looks like a little sailboat is showing through in one of the pics!:) Pretty and practical! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Carol, I love how the other colors show through also. So glad that you didn't leave it behind! Love it with the books and the wire basket. Perfection my dear!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann

ReplyDeleteIt came out so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I love your house and had to share on my FB page.
ReplyDeleteLove it Carol and what sweet memories you must have when you look at it. I love the blue and love even more how the original paint job peeks through! It looks great beside your bed with the wire basket on top! Can you please come decorate my house? LOL...:)

Good thing that you rescued your stool! I remember when one of my cats was a kitten; he was c-r-a-z-y. He was so wild and knocked over anything that wasn't secured.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful new look!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the stool makeover, and the vignette on it!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteNow you and Lulu are happy :)
Susan
that is an incredible idea to use the stool as nightstand. Love the books resting on the bottom part. That is quite genius
ReplyDeleteI love the blue and thanks so much for the idea of using it for a nightstand. I have one bought at Walmart that I'd never get rid of because my mom bought it for me. Yours turned out fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHey you!!! Holy cow is that AWESOME!!!! It is rustic and beautiful all at once!! And I have never thought to put a tray in a stool like that! Brilliant!!! I am laughing because I seriously think that my boring old stool got left behind when I took my leave with my first...to think I could have rocked something like this out! Now I know!!! Have a lovely week!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your ideas! I would never have thought of using a stool for a bedside table but it works brilliantly and looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteI love this repurpose!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the Annie Sloan Chalk paint? I've looked for it in this area and cannot find it. I love the finished stool. Perfect. As always, I enjoyed your post. You're so creative.
ReplyDeleteLook at you, clever girl!! Always coming up with new ways to use something that once had a different function! Being a magazine collector/hoarder, I love the metal basket holding issues to peruse while deciding on whether it's time to get up in the morning, or not! I haven't ventured beyond the neutrals in AS paint, but I love seeing others use it. Such a pretty color and perfect for your home!
ReplyDeleteThat really turned out neat, Carol! Yay, YOU, for retiring after 24+ years of teaching. You seem to be filling your time beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI must be one of the few people left who have not tried AS paint. I really like how your stool turned out with it.
fondly,
Rett
Sweet. I love the stool being used as a pretty little resting spot next to the bed. You are so beautifully creative.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for the stool and it looks perfect right there! I just love how you have the several different items displayed on it.
ReplyDeleteNow all that you need is a kitten. It could jump into the basket and bat the hydrangeas around, torturing Lulu who would want to play with the kitten...
:)
The little stool turned out really nice! Perfect for where you put it!
ReplyDeleteJudy
What a pretty transformation! That color is gorgeous!

I think Little Lulu turns out to be great decorating helper!
ReplyDeleteLove how you updated the stool! So nice to have something special from all of those years of hard work! Ahhhh, a puppy....a playful, knock stuff over and trample the flowers puppy! So much love to give! You have adjusted well, and even have adapted your decorating I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat Greek Blue is so beautiful! It looks great in the new bedroom decor. I have a new kitten that is driving me crazy knocking things over. But animal cuteness prevails...
ReplyDeleteNice change for the stool and the location. Now like how you used the rungs to hold the books.
