Cottages By The Sea

Short and sweet.

The definition - "make your point"

And, that is exactly what these little cottages do.

What's their point?

Simply, to provide a comfortable place to relax after a day on the beach.

Walk with me through my neighborhood to see a few of my favorite little cottages.

This little storybook cottage sits just 7 houses from the ocean

and is packed full of sweet details -

 mullioned windows

keyhole archway at the front door

romantic turret

Don't you just love the three long rectangular windows and the tiny window at the top?

I picture overstuffed chairs and a window seat inside.

Right next door is a classic gray and white beach cottage.

Old friends live here and daily their home is filled with the chatter of their two precious grandsons while their mother is at work teaching with me.

Over twenty years ago, I made the lace curtains on all the windows.

A bougainvillea covered fence hides the patio of the shingled house sporting a red mailbox and a bell to alert the owners that guests are at the gate.

What's a beach house without a dolphin weather vane and a classic blue and white paint job?

A little gray cottage sitting at the entrance to our lane is a short term rental with guests from all over the world coming to enjoy sun and sand.

And, my favorite little cottage by the sea -

short on space, but sweet in character.

  13. I am drooling over all of those precious beach cottages. How I would love one. But, I think it might look a little out of place here in Oklahoma! LOL

    Thanks for sharing.

  14. Carol, I am really quite envious over your cottage by the sea. It is full of charm and beauty. I can only imagine how fun it would be to have the sand to tiptoe through so very close by. Love all of these darling cottages, but yours is my favorite! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  15. Carol, I do love looking at cottages by the sea too and it was fun visiting the ones in your neighbourhood. I love the one with turrets and it would be lovely to visit and stay in any of them for a holiday but for me yours looks the most cosy and welcoming. Steve's painting is wonderful!

  16. Dear, dear Carol,

You have strummed a chord of my heart since I first "met" you in your cottage, but today, you have sealed the deal!!!!! I had NO idea you lived where I think you live...because I grew up NOT TOO FAR from a place very similar to this. That first cottage, would you believe, is very close in appearance to the house my sister lived in (she was already married with a family when I was a child). How I loved her home, and the homes surrounding me. My mum and I used to walk to the stores, and the walk there was a treat because I used to enjoy looking at all the turrets, the seawave roofs, the unusual shapes of the entrances...it was pure enchantment.

I live in a cottage now, but very far away from where I grew up. Thus the name of my blog includes the word COTTAGES since I have a deep love for this style of home and the coziness you can find there.

All of the cottages you share today are simply divine. And thank you for visiting and I WILL BE AROUND; I just need to take a very short POSTING break until I see what the demands are for this poetry class I will be taking! I'm keeping my eye on your blog from my blog roll because you share two things I love so much: the ocean, and the sweet life of a seaside dwelling. ENJOY! Anita

  23. My favorite cottage would be yours. The homes in you neighborhood are beautiful but so much larger than the cottage in my community which are between 600 and 900 sq ft for the most part.

  24. Wow, what a beautiful neighborhood you have! I love that you took us on a tour. Sigh. It was like a min-vacation.

  26. Damn Girl! You are living the life (especially now that you're almost retired)! I like your house the best. But that storybook cottage is quite enchanting! My dream is to live somewhere where bougainvillea grows so beautifully.

  27. First of all, your husband is SUCH a talented artist! The painting of your cottage is just beautiful! I love all the photos of the beach cottages. All so different, but each so beautiful and charming.

We are experiencing some lovely weather (finally) and people are out and about in their gardens, getting outdoor projects done, walking on trails, playing fetch with the dog and camping (Miguel went out to a little island last night to camp). And we had Northern Lights last night for an extra bonus!

  28. The neighborhood has certainly changed since my husband lived there in the 50's. But I guess everything has! What a wonderful place to explore. Mimi

  29. Thanks for sharing your charming neighborhood! I'll have to stop in that area in one of my travels to San Fran to see my daughter. I'll be stalking you! Just kidding! I love an eclectic beach town. I live near the water, but on a man made island. Some of the homes have character, the others are tract homes and not very unusual. Great photos! 32. The beach cottages are a place of healing and joy. The salt cleanses us and the sun embraces us in its warmth.
