The kitchen is not my domain, so any time I want to do anything in the kitchen, I have to make Steve think it was his idea.
When I painted the shelves a couple of weeks ago, Steve immediately ordered a butcher block for the cabinet.
The butcher block arrived on Thursday and Friday night I got busy painting the cabinet white.
After waxing, I did some sanding and wanted to keep going,

There were little yellow and white polka dot knobs on the cabinet when it was red, but I went with silver knobs to match the rest of the kitchen.
Steve likes it because it blends in and he thinks the room looks larger.
The shelves sport my favorite yellow and red bowls and canisters.
I bought the Mason jar shelf years ago at a home decor party I hosted.
It was during my Americana phase so the shelf was slate blue and it was relegated to the garage about 5 years ago.
With a fresh coat of ASCP Old White and some new jars it has a new life in the kitchen.
A salute to Valentine's Day is the conversation hearts and blue Dove hearts in the Mason jars.
I did hang up a little banner I made yesterday.
Steve saw it and put his foot down - not in HIS kitchen.
Since he made me a lovely paella while I wrote this post I saw the wisdom of removing the banner.
There is an old saying, "If mama ain't happy, ain't no one happy."
And if Steve "ain't happy", I don't eat.

ReplyDeleteI think the banner was super cute but I'd remove it too for paella!! Looks delicious. Love your new counter top. That whole area is precious. Love the red and yellow!

It looks wonderful. The bunting is sweet, but in the interests of not starving I suppose you'll have to find a new home for it

Maybe if you are reaallly nice to Steve, he will let you put the banner up for Valentine's Day! It matches the conversation hearts!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I love your sunporch!
cute!! The kitchen is my domain and I have never made paella! Hats off to the man!
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen and would be thrilled to cook in there!!! We pained the cabinets in our windowless kitchen white (I have it on my sidebar) and I LOVE how much more spacious (visually, not literally!) and bright our kitchen is now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting. I wish I was doing creative projects instead of tidying projects. Like Steve, I'm also a painter (although not of his caliber by ANY means!) and I am late on getting some paintings done!
Have a great week!!

Hey girl...sorry I agree with the cook...the banner was just a little too sweet for the kitchen...especially since he was making paella! I love your butcher block top and the red canisters! Have a great day Carol!!

Your kitchen is so sweet - love this cute little area, especially the red striped and checked accents! - I think I could be happy here (But Steve would have to "move over"!!) Thanks for visiting Pandora's Box!
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen is my husband's domain too! Hmm, I want some of that paella!
ReplyDeleteGoedele
This is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love the mason jar shelf...very clever the way it hangs upside down for jar access, it also adds height to the arrangement.
I like the white cupboard, new butcher block and 'faux hutch' look!!!

ReplyDeleteIt turned out great! I love how you decorated with happy, colorful things above it.
ReplyDeleteI love the view into your window from the garden. Pinned your heart banner. Thought it was super creative. Too girly? Stop by. My hearts are super girly and over the top. My hubby thought they looked cartoonish but suddenly accepted them:) http://www.sewsweetvintage.com/2013/01/sweet-heart-pillow-upcycle.html
ReplyDeleteooh nice! The whole thing looks custom made for your kitchen. A perfect fit. Great idea to do a butcher block top. And golly, that paella!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it all! Your kitchen is so cheerful with the red & white accent pieces.
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job in the kitchen! Well, not the cooking part obviously :) I used to live near the sea as well. Only 5 minutes by foot. Not anymore. So, seeing your pictures of the ocean are such a welcoming sight to me!
ReplyDeleteHappy day to you,
Wendy
