Shopping this week I looked beyond my primary color palette to add some new colors to the house.
A new chair, some new pieces for table settings and a red sphere ( not a new color, but I love the shape) ended up in the house this week.
The metal chair from Tuesday Morning found its home in the entry.
The look is still my primary color palette of red and yellow, but a softer blue than my usual dark blue.
Daisies from the garden, a blue Ball jar and a few favorite linen pieces fill the red basket.
The red sphere, a TJ Maxx find that I passed on buying once before, ended up in the living room on a side table.
I wear a lot of black, but I don't use it much in decorating so buying black flatware was a first for me.
Black flatware led to finding black and white dish towels to use as place mats, new white plates and yellow fabric for napkins.
Black stitching along the edges gives some interest to simple square napkins.
I only had one black candle ( from Halloween ) so I created a center piece in an old platter using various sized candles and greenery from the garden.
Yellow isn't new for me, but yellow paired with black and white is a first.
I thought I had created a nice table setting , but sunlight on the centerpiece was the perfect addition.
I love my new chair and the black flatware.
I love the red basket against the aqua chair.
And then this afternoon I spotted the sweet little orange Iceland poppy in the garden - another new color?

( :
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color palette. I always wish I could mix other colors into my place, like pastels but they never seem to fit. Maybe I should try harder.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you celebrate even a meal for the two of you with much care to the table settings. Yellow with black and white looks great! And I love all the aqua you are adding, it looks good with your already in place color pallet. I think you must have sunshine every day! We've hit the 70s here after the snow a week ago. But it won't last, I don't think. Daffodils are about to spring up! I enjoyed your previous post too--so clever!
ReplyDeleteLove your sun lit table. I like the windows too. I change my table settings up once in a while. Usually it's just my hubby and I, so I change the place mats and napkins for color. I love the colors you used. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLOVE THE NEW POP OF ORANGE! YES! That does it! I love however, the black flatware and of course, aqua is a necessary color, being by the water and all! Oh you would make such a great party decorator or even an interior decorator for beach cottages.....hmmmmmmm....what an idea to entertain my friend!
ReplyDeleteLove all your pops of color. Your table looks so pretty with the sun shining through your beautiful windows.
ReplyDeleteKathy
What could be cuter than those delicate daisies in the red wire basket, sitting on that beautiful aqua chair? Not much!
ReplyDeletePoppy
I just love all the colors in your home. The black and yellow color combo is lovely and I think the sunshine was a show of approval from Mother Nature herself. The little orange poppy is so pretty, I can't wait until the flowers start to bloom in my neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteyellow and blue are so pretty together - you have such gorgeous, happy colours in your home!
ReplyDeleteAll of your beautiful colors work so well together in your darling cottage! I LOVE the yellow, black, and white table setting. And, of course, that blue chair would fit perfectly in my house too.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
There are so many colours to enjoy, why not branch out as the spirit moves you, Carol.
ReplyDeleteI like the orange poppy. Late last winter, I picked up some orange tulips and they looked wonderful next to blue.
Karen
I think you could use any color in your charming home and it would work! I love yellow, white and black together. That's a great combination. That shade of blue is so Springy too. I think it's a very cottage style blue color.
ReplyDeleteI love aqua and find myself trying to add a bit of it to my decor also. I love the pop of color the blue chair adds in your home. The poppy is gorgeous! I'm hoping for some sunshine this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI just love the colors in your home. I am adding a few touches of colors to my rooms now, but watch out for the kitchen when we do it this year. I have been buying all kinds of colorful things.
ReplyDeleteI love that red sphere, and I think that red and aqua is the most perfect color combination!
ReplyDeleteI like yellow and black together, too.
You found that adorable chair at Tuesday Morning? I love it!
Carol,
ReplyDeleteI am always blown away by your energy level and the gorgeous happy colors you add it your beach cottage nest.
Black touches add the magical punctuation mark interiors need. I adore the new blue mental chair, never been to a Tuesday morning. The red sphere is wonderful and the way you displayed it is genius on the column top with the small number balls.
Hey Carol, save on crafts has white eggs with numbers on them. I plan to purchase some and display in a wire basket for Easter. Knowing you, you probably already know about the eggs, but if not, check them out.
Love orange and all the shades in between from rust to copper to pumpkin.
Again you amaze me and put a happy smile on my face today.
XX,
Vera
Carol, I am convinced we are leading parallel lives. I picked up a similar orb, but put it down like a dummy. I thought I had too many. Now you tell me, can a girl have too many orbs? I think not! And I almost bought a similar chair at Tuesday Morning last year, but they were gone when I went back. Love it in your house!
ReplyDeleteI have a green wire basket like yours!
xoxox
Sheila
Love the aqua and turquoise! The yellow and black remind me of bumblebees. It's very spring. Here the bees are buzzing all over the place.
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile... Love the addition of the B/W ~ and I knew you could love aqua as much as I do!!
ReplyDeleteA feast for the eyes ~
I love those chairs - was just drooling over them this morning at Tuesday Morning. I just don't have anywhere to put one, but they are gorgeous!!

Kris
The sunlight on your beautifully set table is the icing on the cake. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove the orb that would have come home with me too. The new chair is great too. I like black. I do wear quite a bit of black so it was natural for it to show up in my home.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you are dropping hints that next we will see the red-orange color of a poppy in the line up? I seriously admire the fabric stitched napkins. I love aqua of course and black is so classic and dramatic, yet you pair it all together beautifully.
ReplyDeleteSo very nice. I'm not a yellow person but your table setting is actually very pretty. Of course, I Love the red basket and the sphere!
ReplyDeleteYour house always looks so very pretty to me, you have so many lovely things.
ReplyDeleteLove the aqua chair and the red sphere. Black along with color - why not? It's a great neutral and a nice change from white.
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, when I read that title I thought no way, you already have all the colors covered but you have done it again!
ReplyDeleteI love all your color, glorious color. Bright and bold color! I am so with you on color, I just love it, and can't have enough. I love everything so I won't narrow it down to one! You just have to wake up happy each and every morning!
ReplyDeleteLove the view of the ivy from your dining table! Just beautfiul! Your home is so very cozy! It's the kind of house you would see illustrated in a children's picture book, in my opinion. Sigh...love! xo Jen

Oh the poppies are blooming! Lucky you. Black and white are my decorating go to. I have to make myself try to think of other colors. I could use those black & white towels/placemats. And they look great with the yellow.
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it friend! I absolutely love that black and white paired with the yellow and that black stitch just gives it the perfect amount of detail!! Way to go!!! Love the addition of new colors Carol! Your home is always so beautiful, but it's fun to make changes. You know that I am a lover of red and aqua. So of course that chair and basket stole my heart! the pop of black is so fun and I like how you added the stitching on the napkins. Love that orb too! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Good morning dear one,
ReplyDeleteI am pretending to hear the crash of the waves by your beach, as I sit here with snow drifts outside my window...but I am content. I know that there is always another side to the walls we hit, whether it's the weather, or "little things."
I am so happy that you came to see my post. I tell ya, learning how to teach at the secondary level has left me joyous but some days, confused. I literally go into my first class at the high school with panic, but once I get in the room, I'm fine. But getting a letter from a shy 8th grader was my first "angel" encounter. Then getting help to get my car out of a mess by a total stranger was the topping on the cake. Believe.

Isn't it funny how adding one new thing always leads to something else? Love your pretty yellow and black table setting and that chair is simply adorable.
ReplyDeleteI find your blog in the moment and first I thaught, you are from Britain. But you are not. You have a realy wonderful home - I love it!
ReplyDeleteSigrun
You have lots of lovely things - I love your blue chair!

I'm much taken with the contrast of yellow and black. I'm always wanting to change things up, you've shown me I can use table settings to do it, took some time to clue in but I've finally got it.
ReplyDeleteI'm keen on colors, I couldn't live without, so, I really love your colorful world Carol! I also like your inventive spirit and good taste! Thank you for the inspiration !
ReplyDeleteOlympib
Lovely! Oh, I just love the yellow, black, and white!! It reminds me to use more yellow in my own home as it has always been my favorite color!! I love all your decor! It is all so inviting!
ReplyDeleteHey! You found a sphere like mine! It looks great :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
I love your color choices in your house. The black, yellow, and white table setting was very charming and I love your little blue chair.
ReplyDeleteThough I may not use them either, I love these colour combinations. The black white and yellow is so pretty on your sunlit table, and I think red and turquoise together - like the chair and basket - is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove the red sphere and I'm glad you are using some black. I sure enjoyed my walks along the beach this week! Back home to 14 degrees weather. Grrr! I've watched too much Danlei Tiger - he says Grrr when he's frustrated! haha
