From the time I began blogging, I have identified myself as a "color" girl.
Today, I realize that I am no longer who I said I was.
I put on an orientation today for 325 fifth graders at my middle school.
And, I am EXHAUSTED.
325 fifth graders, 155 seventh and eighth graders leading them on tours and playing games, 3 nights burning the midnight oil preparing for the event finally took its toll on my old body.
I came home and PLOPPED.
Sitting on the sofa and staring ahead of me made me realize something.
I am not just a color girl.
Looking straight ahead of me to the entry showed me yellow walls, white trim, white curtains and pillows, and a white shelf.
Blue dishes, a bit of yellow and a dab of red provide accent, but basically, the view is white.
Sitting on my white sofa, and looking across the room, I saw my white chair, white cabinet and white sewing machine base.
Colorful books, a floral pillow and a red striped candle provide accent on the table.
Colorful quilts provide contrast from the white on the cabinet.
Last weekend I painted a hallway cabinet white.
In January, I painted a little cabinet and some shelves in the kitchen white.
My spring mantel is white.
Oh my gosh, I can actually join Blissful Whites Wednesday.

I've been too busy to join the white party this week. But I love the transformation in your beautiful little place. That first view of the door is so sweet and serene. I've always loved what you do with color. But you know how I love the look of whie!
ReplyDeleteI always think of white as restful and, from the sound of your day, I believe you could use it. Any other time you might notice your beautiful colors more. Either way, your home is lovely. (And the title you chose for today's post is certainly an attention-getter Wow!)
ReplyDeleteI am laughing right now! TOO funny! First off congrats on getting through the day! You are one busy lady at school and with all of your mentions of school activities I am getting excited for you to retire!!! Whites are awesome and yours a wonderful!!!! I hope you get some rest!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you do have a good bit of white and you need it with the use of color. Makes it pop. Funny I have been painting things white, too, but will never lose the color.
ReplyDeleteI am loving that you have come over to the white side!!!!! I like all your white with colorful accents. It looks really comfy and peaceful and it sounds like you need a little of that!!!! Hope you have a peaceful rest of your week.

Maybe you are just a touch of color girl :)
ReplyDeleteYour cottage is lovely.
It is so funny isn't it! White is very addictive once you start painting with it there is not stopping you! And it is so calming so pretty and so serene I just LOVE white! And you can still add some pops of color and still it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnne
Well I love it! It's relaxing and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking p...I love your house, Karin
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful! Those bright colors with the white is really striking. I too am a beach lover...nice blog!
ReplyDeleteYour home is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteWellcoming blog and house.Lovely pics!!!
ReplyDeleteYou've got the perfect combination of fun color and calming whites! I hope you find some time to put your feet up this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think every home needs it's whites mixed in with color and you have the perfect balance of both:)
ReplyDeletelol! I feel exactly the same way!!! When I started blogging, I was all about colour - wondering why/how everyone in blogland wound up with so much white. I look around my home today and, you guessed it, lots of WHITE! Then again, the vibrant colours that I love are now showcased against the white. So all I did was emphasize the colour I love. At least that's what I keep telling myself! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty home.
It's nice to have a white background so you can play with pops of color!
ReplyDeleteYour home looks so pretty!
LOL....congratulations on your new self discovery! I love that white party too and never think I can join either! Maybe if I look around me, I can.....Your cottage is darling!
ReplyDeleteYou'll always be a colorful girl to me!! But I do like how your playful and colorful accessories stand out when next to or on top of your whites. You know I adore your cottage by the sea!!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
What a fun discovery as you're plopping down for rest! Whites can certainly be soothing, especially after 325 fifth graders. I love white!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying it, too. :)
Wow what a day you had! How nice to plop on the couch and have such a view. I love the balance you've got with white and color, your home is so pretty! Every photo looks cozy.

Your home is really pretty, love the pops of color. After your day it must be nice to come home to such a pretty and relaxing place.
ReplyDeleteI love your whites and your pops of color...just the right amount. I'm also loving your kitchen floor!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that there is so much white in your home but when I started following your blog about a month ago color is what stood out. I guess it's a matter of perspective and where the eye focuses. I wasn't sure what to say when I saw that you had painted that turquoise cabinet white. Because I think of you as a colorful person. But, the white is clean, peaceful and helps the colors pop. The colors add splashes of happy. Your home is wonderful! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have dreamed of being a "white" person...:P (probably not P.C. but you know what I mean)
ReplyDeleteI have Oooo'd and Aaaaw'd over whites... white rooms, white beds, white trim, white dishes, ...white, white, white.
BUT I look around and I don't see white.
I'm the opposite of you... I see color!
strange.
Just think... it took all that exhaustion and sleep deprivation for you to figure it out.
I don't know what it took for me...but I'm finally settling on the idea...that I like color!
Is it any wonder you are married to an artist. White. The blank canvas.
Hmmm... enjoy your new discovery.
Pat
Your home is lovely. LOVE your kitchen (esp. the floor). Your whites are great!! Thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteYour home is just beautiful. I love your use of white and how the colors from your paintings, pillows and quilts just seem to pop.
ReplyDeleteI like all the white and I love your white floors in the kitchen! But 325 5th graders, I'm exhausted just thinning about it! Thanks for stopping by, Laura
ReplyDeleteThat was thinking, not thinning about it. That auto correct is a problem sometimes! Laura
ReplyDeleteIt is so funny, but I never used to like white and now I find myself, especially recently, thinking about painting things WHITE!
ReplyDeleteI think white is restfull and with your schedule it sounds like you don't need anymore stimulation!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I just wrote you that you would love Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint because of the bright colors :-). Well, there are some pretty whites too ;-).
ReplyDeleteGoedele
I dunno...even though you have a lot of white, you still have a lot of color going on, too. Great combination, I think! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the little white cabinet in the kitchen. I'm a fan of pops of red, too. It looks so cozy.
ReplyDeleteThose white and neutral tones are what lets the more colorful pieces shine! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely home. I like how the white and soft yellow provides a peaceful atmosphere and a nice background for the pops of colours. Your kitchen seems very pretty. Oh, and I just collapsed on the sofa last Friday when I was back from school... and it had been an ordinary week!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I think we are alot alike. I love white but must have a pop of color! I too have been painting alot of things white and am using alot of it in our basement finish. They started painting today. Can't wait to start decorating! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup. I did not see a link back. I'm sure it was not intentional.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
I like color but I'm afraid of it LOL
ReplyDeleteIt took my daughter and husband to get me to pick colors for our home which are not white but neutral.
Well except the masterbedroom.... it a rustic red. LOL
You're a splash of color girl. ;o)
Did I already say this to you? ... When we moved in this house I thought I'd go neutral and phase out my beloved red. In a short time I realized that was never going to happen. I love having white mixed with my colors.
