Hearts Everywhere

I love hearts

and I tuck them into vignettes around the house

all year long.

But at this time of year, I can blatantly use hearts all over the house.

I have spent the last few days setting out full heart displays in every room.

I made this little embroidered piece when we were in Kauai at Christmas

and this quilt was my project last week - yes, I cheated and machine quilted it.

I bought a rusty metal heart garland months ago

and added it to the dining room shelf.

Supplies from the garage are filling up the guest room

and my rusty red cart is being used as a work table for my creativity.

The cloth hearts are a couple of years old and I just added some string to make a garland for my chalkboard.

I cut a variety of sizes of hearts out of book pages and have been playing with them the last few days.

I've made a couple of three dimensional vertical garlands

that will be put into cute little muslin bags from Michael's

and mailed off to friends tomorrow.

This little spool of hearts is an  experiment - I thought it would look cute draping out of a bowl.

I am not quite finished adding Valentine's everywhere, but scenes like this are getting in my way.

It's difficult to stay inside when Lulu is crying to be taken to the beach.

But, I am determined

to finish fluffing tomorrow

before we head back outside.

  2. I love seeing your creativity in display, I am getting lots of ideas. I especially like the garland gift , sending it to loved ones in the little muslin bags.

I don't think I could be as disciplined as you with the beach right outside the window... simply beautiful.

  3. CAROL! You are bringing spring to us NOW! I absolutely love that shot of your eating area with the garland up above. That is perfectly spring and KEEP IT that way until the scorching summer months. LOVELY!

  4. I love hearts too, and can't stop creating them.

I love the ones you have created and collected.

Those scenes would definitely be beckoning me to come outdoor too, especially before it gets too hot to enjoy.

Have a lovely weekend ~ FlowerLady

  6. You've inspired me to pick up a pencil and jot down a few project ideas of my own, things I've been meaning to do but haven't. The heart garland you sent me, quite some time ago, is still strung across my window in my guest/desk room. It makes me smile, Carol!

  9. You know how much I love hearts, too and now I'm determined to start bringing mine out again for Valentine's Day. My favorites are the puffy hearts you made and mailed to me a couple of years ago. I love the hearts you made from the book pages and how you made them 3D - very cool! BTW, I'm crying to go to the beach, too. ;-)

  10. Those vertical heart garlands are so clever and cute. I might have to try that today. It amazes me that you accomplish so much with the beach just steps away, and especially with a cute canine companion like Lulu encouraging you to play!

  17. Good Afternoon Carol, I so agree with you.... I love hearts in all forms. I was talking to my quilty friends the other day and they pointed out that every quilt I had made had hearts added in one form or another. I have hearts hanging from my doors.... even my engagement ring has a heart, so I obviously started loving hearts many years ago.
I love your vertical hearts made from paper.... they look lovely and all the hearts dotted around your home make me smile.
Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you manage to get out and about for your walks.
    Best wishes

  22. I agree with you 100% - hearts all year round but go crazy after putting the Christmas decorations away lol. May I ask how you made the dimensional hearts? What a lovely gift and I especially like how you "anchored" with a key....
Envious of your seaside - pretty cold here in mid Michigan :)

  23. Carol you're killing me ... Showing the glorious beach photos when tonight into Sunday a blizzard is arriving and dropping over 2 feet of snow in Philly. You're a woman who has a big heart and shows a lot of heart so your heart displays are perfect. I love all your Valentine's Day vignettes. The spool with hearts cascading down is adorable. The paper cut outs are sweet spinning around, for certainly in your cottage love is in the air...

  33. I think I love every photo that you posted today. I am inspired to make a heart garland and hang it inmy living room. It is so grey and dreary here at the moment. I am sick to death of rain and could do with a bit of cheering up

  34. Love all your hearts and the way you incorporate them into little vignettes everywhere. By the way it's not cheating to machine quilt. Even expert quilters do it ❤️

  36. I like your hearts! I know that Valentines Day will be here soon. I'm looking forward to February since I will be getting some new furniture and appliances delivered then. I guess that will be my Valentines Day present. Ha Ha! I have a pillow with a heart on it and I use it year round since it's neutral. Hope you are enjoying your beach this time of year while the East coast is digging out of snow. Luckily, we just got a dusting but I think some people north of us will be on the phone making reservations for the beach as soon as they can get a plane out of there!

  37. I love hearts too, and have them around the house all year 'round. Like you, though, I go a bit wild at Valentine's. I like your three-dimensional hearts very much and have enlarged the picture to see how you've done it. They are very sweet!

  38. Your embroidery is outstanding, Carol. The colors are lovely and the fact that you made it in Maui must make it such a special remembrance.

  39. you are so talented artistically. I'm still trying to get my Christmas decor down and you're already ready for Valentines! So do love the shelf over your windows. Could you show the whole length of it in a post sometime so I can see how it is held up? I am thinking of doing some type of shelf like that between two shelving units.

  56. I love your hearts . I never thought of this before but your style reminds me of Mary Emmerling( I know the spelling isn't right). And now I remember I have a book of hers on hearts. No idea where that book is but hopefully it will surface.

  57. Carol, each and every one of your hearts make me smile. I, too, like the heart shape, and have picked up special hearts all my life. Found one in CA this weekend at the gift store at Getty Villa. It is a tiny brass heart shaped spoon. I will share it on the blog soon. I'm headed to my storage unit soon to bring home my boxes of valentine things. I'm ready to trade out the snow people for hearts. '-)

  58. Nothing wrong with machine quilting. That's how I mad all my quilts over the years than bought a Gracie quilter rack so I could add my sewing machine to quilt all my pretty designs on the top.
Love all your inventive cute hearts. I have many prim hearts that I made years ago that sit in my studio year round.
