Time for a change ...

I've been thinking about changing vignettes around the house

because so many bloggers are talking about fall and pictures on Instagram reflect the season's colors.

We don't really have a fall season,

but last night as I fell asleep, ideas for a new mantel design floated through my head - instead of counting sheep!

I had no firm idea of how I would decorate the mantel when I got up this morning,

but I took everything nautical off the mantel and dumped it on the guest room bed.

When I stopped to take a picture for my blog post, I noticed all the clocks on the ladder and suddenly I knew what I wanted to do.

Every clock came off the ladder and I found a few more in my garden house.

I had a lot of fun creating this mantel.

Clocks were moved from side to side of the mantel

and moved from back to front and back again until I felt like I had it right.

I always like using words in my vignettes and a Tim Holtz metal piece "live in the moment" seemed to fit with the "TIME" theme.

The St. Etienne Chocolate piece looks like a clock, but it is actually an old CD with a cut out of a clock glued to it - found on the blog Tongue and Cheek a couple of year's ago.

According to the poem, the mouse is supposed to "run up the clock", but this mouse is just hiding among the clocks.

I received a book of alphabetized quotes from Sugarboo Designs the other day and I was sure there would be one for time.

This message really made me think about how I spend my hours each day.

The last touch was to tuck dried tree branches into the clock displays.

The mantel was all I accomplished today so tonight as I fall asleep,

I'll be dreaming of ways to decorate the ladder now that the clocks are gone.

  5. Dear friend, no matter what you do, your home is always full of love.

LOOKS GREAT! Me too; I want to change out my summer décor, but it still feels a bit like summer. Soon, however, that will CHANGE!

  6. It looks great! :)

It's too summery here to decorate for fall yet, though I know that many do. With all of the flowers blooming outdoors in pinks and yellows, etc., and no trees turning yet it is too early for me.

  12. I love this idea! I have so many clocks in my house (being a time fanatic!) that I've sometimes thought of putting them all together; however, mine are not as interesting as yours. You did great on this vignette, as usual. Hope you can sleep tonight ;)

  18. Carol,
My favorite season is Autumn, the crunch of the fallen painted leaves, Pumpkins and crispness in the air are truly my gifting of nature's beauty. Also my time to add more russet colors in our home. For a friend who lives in CA by the sand and sea you really dreamed up a fun "time" appropriate mantle display. To tell you I love your mantel display is an understatement ... It is brilliant.

  20. Hi Carol, I am delighted to see someone with more clocks than me. I am always having people comment on my clocks and that I have so many . . . they just don't get it, but you do :) I love how you grouped them altogether for you mantel design. As always my visit here was so pleasurable, that's why I can't stay a way.

I've been known to get out of bed and move furniture around... Gotta get it done when inspiration hits! I look forward to seeing what happens with the ladder. Have a great afternoon Carol!

  39. So cute, Carol. I love the clocks mantel! I'm not taking out all my pumpkins yet. I like to ease into autumn with apples first. I'll post about apples next week, but in the meantime, we're going to the lake and enjoy one last summer weekend. :)

As far as the ladder….does Steve have any small paintings? if he does you could fill it with those.

  40. You are the queen of vignettes! I wish mine would look as great as yours, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to them.

  41. Beautiful! Love all the clock faces and how you displayed them with the time quote. I snagged an older ladder like yours from a neighbor's curb recently, except mine is the original ugly brown. Did you simply paint and distress yours? That will have to be one of my projects - if not this year (we have so much to finish before the cold weather sets in!), then next.

  42. Carol,
I love all the clock faces and your coastal fall decor. Your vignettes are looking so great.

  44. You did such a great job creating a unique mantelscape! Don't know if that's a word, but I'm using it. LOL! I didn't realize you had so many clocks. I love clocks and have several around my home too. I love anything from Sugarboo so that card you used is perfect! Did you know that I have a Sugarboo store close to me? Everything in there is to die for. It's a bit pricey for my wallet though so I mostly browse.

  46. Great job with the clocks. We do not have a lot of Fall either, still very hot in Florida. We do get a little Fall at the end of October through Thanksgiving. About the most I do these days is a door hanging in late October and pumpkin scented candles.

  47. What a beautiful mantel vignette you created; that quote is definitely one to remember...so true. I know you'll find the most creative way to dress up your ladder.

  48. That's a great collection of clocks and they make a great mantel decoration. It's time to do a little house fluffing around here, too. Perhaps I'll get to it this weekend. You are so inspired.
