A lot of my decorating is done on a whim.
I can look at something every single day and then all of a sudden, I decide things need changing - right then.
I spend a lot of time on my window seat blogging, reading, eating . . .
and yesterday, out of nowhere, I decided I was tired of the vignette on top of the porch cabinet.
All it took was about 30 minutes
to have a new view from my perch on the window seat.
The first order of business was to remove the pitchers on top of the cabinet and replace them with baskets that had been sitting in the garage just waiting for a home.
KC gave me the roses for Mother's Day and I never even put them in water - they went right to the drying stage so I would have the flowers for decorating.
I decided to go with blue and yellow inside of the cupboard.
A favorite bowl that KC brought me from Spain
and a fish plate I found in my mother's cupboards are now easy to find and I will use them more.
My fiestaware pitchers are now easily accessible as are the tablecloths I use on the garden table.
Beneath the cabinet, a vintage basket (will anyone notice that it is green?) holds pillows for the garden chairs.
I have had a lot of different vignettes on top of the cabinet and I must say this is my all time favorite.
Today's project is not a whim.
Painter's drop cloth, stencils, paint and sachet are my supplies for an idea I came up with - I hope it works.

Well, I just love your tweak! I can see why you do. It looks great. And I can't wait to see what you do with the drop cloth, stencils, and paint. I have a little project I am going to be working on, too. It also involves paint, but I bet yours is cuter!

Looks fabulous! Wire baskets are so neat. Your porch is incredibly welcoming and I love how you can peek through that hole in the wall. Is there a name for that? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a shelf in my family room today. Ashamed to say it has been the same way for 2 years.
Well Carol your decorating whims always result in whimsical and fun cheerful changes, Loving the wire baskets and galvanized beverage caddy. Happy creating mon amie!

I like your arched window showing off your yellow cabinet. It's nice you can pull from your house to change things around! Resourceful!
ReplyDeleteI love that yellow and the cabinet too. Makes me want to go paint something yellow except it doesn't go with anything in my house... sigh.
ReplyDeletexox

Love the baskets. I think I love your window seat best of all. It's the open windows that make it appealing to me. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteThe baskets and dried roses make a wonderful display on top of your cabinet. Looks a little fallish too.
ReplyDeleteAren't we funny that way...all of a sudden something needs to be changed, and we can't think of anything else until we do it.

Carol, I am so sure that no one loves and cares for their home more than you. You are constantly fussing around and fluffing up and changing this and that until you achieve perfection . . . time and time again. You take junk from the garage and when you are done with it, we are all drooling over it:)
ReplyDeleteI love visiting your blog:)
I do the same thing. Decorating on a whim is when I have the best ideas. Love the changes you made. Can't wait to see what you do with that box.
ReplyDeleteCarol, your basket vignette is a favorite for me too. Love the entire space from top to bottom, but then your spaces always bring a smile. '-)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely Carol. I think some of the best things in life come out of whims!

Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteI love the pie safe in yellow that keeps all your pretties in beautiful colourfull place.
My mother has her pie safe painted Red, it looks so much like yours.
I adore your colourfull charm, I do have to mention your road appeal to your how I am most certain wows the neighborhood with that beautiful white up against the blue window trim.
See you soon, keep inspiring your country beauty.
Xx

Your new arrangement looks great! I love that the cupboard is yellow on the outside and white inside, instead of vice versa. And your arrangements on the shelves look terrific. I'll have to do something soon with my little china cabinet in the kitchen. Right now it has my collection of dishes with roosters on them. But perhaps it's time for a change. You have inspired me! xoxox
ReplyDeleteOh, you did good! Your vignette looks very airy with the baskets and I love the roses! I have no idea why you're not showing in my list but you weren't so I put you back in. I apologize for not stopping by as you are one of my "favs"...duh...am I slipping? I'm so glad you stopped by to remind me that I do not want to lose touch with certain people and you're one of them!
ReplyDeleteI have something to look forward to now...catching up! I hope you've been having a great summer.
You and I think a like, I am so much a girl who decorates, changes and cooks on a whim. It's like something just happens and of I go onto something I never planned! I like it that way, seems like so much more fun and creative since it's not "plannted" out. Love your metal basket on top. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOooh, looking forward to seeing your idea! I am kind of like that, too. I often set things up and don't change them because I like the way they look so figure why change things up. : ) However, every so often I will get the itch to do something different and it is usually on the spur of the moment. I like your change up.
ReplyDeleteI like the dish from Spain! It brought back some happy memories of a trip there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great switch! I especially love the baskets. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with those supplies!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I never think to photograph the changes I make.
ReplyDeleteSweet friend,
ReplyDeleteI am so late. Open House night, getting up early, working late....I just can't keep up. BUT here I am to thoroughly enjoy these primary colors that speak to me. That Greek blue and bright yellow are so comforting to me! Good morning and happy Friday to you!!! Anita
It looks great ! : )
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers in the first photo, too...I think they are snaps?

ReplyDeleteLove the baskets and the dried roses Carol. They are so vintage. But, I really love the blue and yellow together - my favorite combo ever. Cathy
ReplyDeleteSo much more fun to tweak than to buy new stuff and not know where you will put it all. I have a feeling all of your ideas work out somehow, someway. :) Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteI like the change of view - so practical and pretty. Our new/old house has an entry way that is similar to yours, with the cut-out on the porch. You've given me an idea..........
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what you're up to with the stencils and paint.
So very pretty and a lovely perk to your existing decor, which always makes me smile! Stencils and paint? Hmm...this one's premeditated, for sure!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Blue and yellow together are perfect for a seaside cottage. I'm very jealous that you can have a cabinet on your porch, though... Too rainy for that here!
ReplyDeletecolorful..cuteness! Love how you pulled all the bright colors together, with the different textures in, and on top of the cupboard for a bright, cheery look!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Debbie
I'm beginning to get my whim back.
ReplyDeleteDoing things on a whim used to be a regular occurrence for me... so it is a welcome feeling!
I love that yellow cupboard, I especially love the metal crates and wire baskets.

I just love your bright yellow cabinet. Such a nice way to store and display your dishes.
ReplyDeleteWish I was so good that I could change/tweek things up and make them look so good.
ReplyDeleteI might get it right every 10th try. LOL
Having a cupboard as pretty as yours in an outside space which is sheltered from the rain, is actually on my dream wish list, along with a table, some chairs, and an outdoor fireplace.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to dream !
