Room With A View

As we continue of our tour of Leslie's house (look here and here to see the first two posts) you will see that the focus of the second floor is the view-

both from the second floor porch to the back yard and

from the deck overlooking the ocean.

In my last post, I said I would talk about the floors, which are pretty amazing.

The oak floors have a certificate of authenticity stating that wood is reclaimed from an old hay barn in Floyd, Virginia.

I had to resort to using some of the real estate listing photos such as this one of the kitchen - my photos just didn't capture the entire space.

Steve is the cook in our family so his favorite part of the kitchen is the Viking appliances.

The hand painted tiles above the stove were inspired by Leslie's Villeroy and Boch dishes.

I love the pantry door with the wheat pattern carved into the glass

and the great lights hanging over the island - Leslie found them in Coastal Living.

The open floor plan on this floor makes the house fabulous for entertaining, but it is relaxed and comfortable at the same time.

I absolutely love the informal table with red, green and blue chairs and the padded bench.

Another slightly more formal table is set into a window filled alcove.

Stripes, shells and nautical prints all in blue and white tie the seating area together.

Leslie has collected a variety of pillow shapes and designs.

I love our little cottage, but I sometimes wish we had as much space as Leslie does in her living room area for entertaining.

The entertainment space is increased with the beautiful brick patio overlooking the ocean - once again I used photos from the real estate listing because the tables and chairs were not out on the day I took photographs.

All that is left to see is the second floor bedroom decorated in one of my favorite color schemes - blue and yellow.

The hand painted starfish plates are beautiful, but I am in love with the over sized wooden eggs - primary colors, stripes, stars, polka dots, all my favorites.

The fabric of the yellow pillows was the inspiration for the painted tiles and embroidered hand towels in the bathroom.

We'll take a quick peek into the guest bathroom with the WWI urinal used as a vase on the wall.

I'll leave you with a gorgeous view from the window seat, but you have to come back later in the week to see where the window seat is.

  8. Carol, this home is gorgeous and I cannot imagine owning it and moving away. Unless it was just too much house. That is where your charming cottage has the upper hand over this home. You can clean it and go have fun. With a home this size, if you expect to have a life other than house work, you would need help. That's my opinion. Then again that main floor living, dining and kitchen was amazing and could easily steal your heart, or anyone's heart for that matter:)

I am truly enjoying seeing your home tours. The other day I was blogging and came across a home tour of your cottage, on another site. It was like a light turned on in my head. I know that cottage!

    Keep Smiling.

  9. The urinal was a neat touch and very creative. All the nautical touches everywhere and the vibrant colors are so pretty. Love the floors! Have they had any bites on it yet? I can't imagine wanting to sell it if I owned something so gorgeous! Have a lovely evening.

    Blessings, Vicky

  11. That is such a nice house! I love the kitchen. I think it's a cook's dream. I also like the rafters exposed. The deck on top of the house would be my favorite spot though.

  12. Your blog posts will very likely sell this home! Oh how I wish.... I would leave the sands of Florida for that lane and that home. Oh, well one can dream....

  13. The real estate listing? I'm going to buy it...in my dreams. Wow, what an incredible home. I was sold at the first picture.

Loved how much space she has to entertain as well.....something we always have to work with as we have a small home too. Amazing is all I can say and the views! Happy week to you friend! 24. WOW. You weren't kiddin'.....there is SO MUCH detail and beauty in this home, Carol. The floors alone are a treasure to enjoy, then the details of the lighting, the beams (we're supposed to get ours installed soon but the builder keeps avoiding us) and then the furnishings.....WHAT A DREAM! Thank you for the invitation to come by; in my email I had said I was JUST on the verge of getting the photos loaded up when I was called away to DINNER!

    LOVELY HOME!

  25. Every detail attended to - just amazing. I can picture her family loving this home.

  26. The details in this house are amazing. That pantry door! Who thinks of that? The blue dining table is a knockout. I knomw what you mean about wishing just a little bit that you had that much open space. I bet the triplets love that open floor area. I have visions of lots of running, skating, rope jumping. . . But then it makes me a little sad for those beautiful floors!

  27. Good Evening Carol, There are so many beautiful things I love about this house. For starters, the sea view, the kitchen is wonderful, I would have so much fun cooking in that kitchen and the industrial lighting is fabulous.
I really love this style of open plan living and it is the sort of house we had in Cyprus.
This was so much fun. Thank you so much I thoroughly enjoyed my peek into Leslie's home.... oh to live by the sea again.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  28. So enjoyed this wonderful tour of this gorgeous home on the water, with its nod to nautical flair, the airiness of the sea, and the warmth of the wood, reminiscent of the rich tones in furniture found on ships! Need to look at everything...again!

  31. Hi Carol, WOW what an amazing home. I love everything and all the special touches. The kitchen is amazing and I love the fresh look with the blues and pops of color too.
Great tour and so many wonderful decorating ideas like the quilt rolled at the end of the bed. So awesome.

  32. Beautiful home and I too love blue and yellow in the bedroom. But, I think I would prefer your little cottage and garden if I was to move to California. Your home is very homey. This home would be great for an executive who entertains. I do love those floors of reclaimed wood.

  33. Wow, it is a beautiful home, but it's just too big for me. It's so overwhelming with space and I would feel lost in it. Like you I love my small home and the only wish I have is the same as yours, a little more space for entertaining. But honestly, I'd rather have your home than this one. Oh, except the view. But it is beautiful! Do love her colors!

  34. Wow! What a lovely show house. I enjoyed seeing it! And that blue sky! Our son just got approved for a mortgage out there and is very excited!

  35. What a stunning home! I loved everything about it! And those floors!!! Gorgeous! I grew up not too far from Floyd, Va. :) Leslie has done a marvelous job with her home. It's so warm and inviting. Absolutely beautiful!

  36. Completely charming and those floors could happily live in my home!

  37. The entire home is just spectacular! I don't think I could pick a favorite feature, but I adore the way she created a bolster out of the blanket at the foot of the bed! How creative!

  38. Good morning Carol! I love this home, and the setting by the beach is not to be believed!

I'm certain I saw a pic of this kitchen on another blog. Could it have been BNOTP? The kitchen is what was shown mostly. It was about two weeks ago. I'm not surprised it's getting lots of attention!

I guess my question from the previous post has been answered. It is in fact for sale. Can't imagine why they would want to leave this beautiful home!

  39. This house just keeps getting better and better Carol - I'm sitting here in absolute amazement - why are they moving? Too big? Because I can't ever imagine leaving it!
