Vintage Garden

I have written two posts about my friend Lisa's gorgeous home - here and here.

As much as I love Lisa's house, her gardens take my breath away.

We should start the garden tour here at the cottage right outside the living room, but I am saving the best for last.

Instead we will begin in the Secret Garden, right outside Lisa's bedroom.

From the front, it looks like a little house, but you can see on the left that it is just a frame.

Fun architectural pieces and vignettes

are placed all along the garden walls.

My favorite part of the Secret Garden, other than the fantastic doors,

is the hammock all dressed and calling me to sway in the breeze while reading a book.

If I had a hammock and a Secret Garden at my house, I don't think I would ever get much done.

But, Lisa can't entertain in the Secret Garden so a vintage wicker sofa with comfy pillows sits on the patio outside her bedroom doors.

This view of the patio shows the beautiful border of flowers all along the edge of the yard.

The patio is filled with fun vintage pieces gathered together into sweet vignettes.

I am in love with the grapevine and mason jar chandelier hanging on the patio.

Beyond the patio is a large lawn space

with lush flower borders - a closer look at the borders shows all sorts of eye candy.

Old gates and bed frames are tucked into the greenery with flowers weaving through the openings.

Rusty metal sculptures are hidden behind lush vines.

Statuary is hidden all throughout the garden.

And just like on the front porch, birdhouses are on display.

I am enchanted with Lisa's garden

and dream of the day when Lulu stops digging up flowers and allows my garden to thrive.

I said I was saving the best for last, but there are already 22 photos in this post, 47 if you count each photo in the collages.

So, I am going to end today's garden tour with a sneak peek at Lisa's little garden cottage - you will have to come back in a few days to see the inside and get the scoop on where she bought it.

  3. Such a lovely garden - thanks so much much sharing! And to Lisa too of course. I'm inspired.

  4. That garden cottage is PERFECT! I love my enclosed patio, but it's not painted white, and probably never will be since my husband would think it ludicrous to do so! But that's all I think it needs to give that last lift of perfection, that I see here. She has the same wicker bench I do, and I am loving my life in the garden these days!

Her garden is fantastic my friend. LOVE!

  9. REALLY??!! You couldn't show us inside the garden cottage today?! I wasn't counting the photos, I was just loving the tour you gave. What a beautiful, tranquil, inviting garden Lisa has. I agree with you on the hammock, it would be calling to me all day long. What a lovely summery place (well I guess it's summery all year long!). Thanks so much for sharing, I love every bit of this, and it has given me food for thought to add sculptures and bedframes to my own yard! Wendy x

  11. hon, has any other blogger, other than me, told you that your photos take a long time to load?

now of course, this may just be my experience. so that's no-never-mind, for you.

but if it is happening to more than just me... and if no one else is telling you... and if this is causing some new readers, to not-stay-till-all-pics-load... then that could be a problem.

as i said, no-never-mind, if no one else is having this problem!!!

(who wants readers to tell her, of any issues they encounter, with her blog... :-) )

  18. Omgoodness i love the hammock and the birdhouses... After all this touring of Lisa's house and garden i'm realizing that the distressed look may not be for me... I have the desire to give everything a good coat of paint... Funny how you realize things about yourself out of the blue... I think this was just a little bit of distressed overload for me. One or two or even a few distressed pieces are fine but everything? Thanks so much for opening your home and garden Lisa and Carol for sharing the photos. What fun! Hugs! deb

  22. Wow, what a beautiful garden and yard! I am wondering if those are handkerchiefs hanging in the last photo. The outdoor room looks so inviting! Here where I live we could never have such a thing--it would be wet with rain or dirt from birds or mold from humidity. I guess that is a benefit from living where you do!

  23. Ah boy!!! Thank you for sharing this one friend! I had viewed it earlier and was excited to sit down and actually take my time to look at it again! Her borders really are amazing!!! LOVE that entrance to her garden...how cool is that!!!!! I would really like to walk this garden in person! Please tell her that I think her space is just stunning! Happy day to you Carol!!! 49. Lisa's garden is gorgeous, Carol! You've caught it perfectly with your pictures. It is exactly what I would like. Love the hammock. It made me think of the hammock we had at our old house and how I remade a Queen size sheet into a comfortable cover and pillows for it.

It looks like you have amazing weather there, too. Having just seen Lisa's new garden cottage post, I imagine it does not get too hot where you ar,e so that she can actually be in there working at her desk.
