If you missed the first part of the tour of Lisa's house - the front garden and welcoming porch - you can read it here.
As I mentioned in my initial post about Lisa's house, she loves signs and has them tucked here and there throughout the house.
I will remind you that I had no stylists, no special lighting equipment and the day I took photos, Lisa had just come home from volunteering at the hospital - in other words, life was going on as usual and we all know that real life and staged photo shoots are not the same thing.
Lisa's cozy living room holds many unique vintage pieces -
a triptych mirror aged to perfection . . . a fun clock . . . a rustic piece holding family photos. . .
I was not able to get any sweeping photos of the entire room, but this photo shows the wonderful bead board ceilings and the French doors leading to the garden.
A table beneath the window holds a romantic display of topiaries in a 4 foot tall birdcage.
Moving across to another side of the "great room" is the dining area where we find a wood table surrounded by crisp white chairs and a chandelier with a mix of rustic and bling.
This photo looking from the dining area into the kitchen shows the pickled cabinets Lisa had installed along with subway tile and a great farmhouse sink.
I love Lisa's color choice for the Big Chill refrigerator and dishwasher and the KitchenAid mixer.
What makes Lisa's home fun is the use of quirky pieces throughout the house.
Beautiful pickled wood floors lead down the hallway to the bedrooms.
Lisa replaced every door in the house with well loved and aged doors . . . my favorites are a screen door on the linen closet and the etched glass on the laundry room.
I love this vignette at the end of the hallway . . .
rustic ladder . . . old wicker . . . vintage linens . . . how can you go wrong?
The first bedroom holds an antique daybed with a wonderful old Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.
And, look at the patina on the closet doors.
Elphaba, a standard poodle, makes herself quite at home in the first bedroom,
but the second bedroom is the cat haven - Elphaba and the other dogs are not welcome.
We're almost done - we just need to peek into Lisa's bedroom and bathroom.
The bedroom is a welcoming retreat . . . comfy bed . . . plump pillows . . . rustic bench . . . and Lisa's harp in the corner waiting to be played.
Primitive dolls are tucked around the room which is obviously one of Elphaba's favorite hangouts.
More doors . . . an arched door turned into a mirror . . . paned glass closet doors . . . a peek at the rich patina of the bedroom door.
The bedroom and bathroom were an addition just after Lisa moved into the house 6 years ago.
I love the stone floor, the vintage door and pedestal sink - I seemed to have forgotten to photograph the huge shower.
This tour has gone on long enough, so we won't go into the garden today, but I will leave you with a little teaser.
I am partying at My Desert Cottage and A Fanciful Twist later this week so drop by next Monday to see what this cute little structure is.

I wouldn't worry about the photos Carol, they look great. Somehow this house looks more real than in the book, because the photos aren't staged.
ReplyDeleteHer home is really gorgeous, so many interesting pieces. I love the floors and those French doors leading to the garden, they make the great room feel really special.

ReplyDeleteYou will not believe this, but Lisa's harp is the EXACT same model and color as mine, Carol! I hope to share my home in a few weeks now that I've figured out how to use my camera to get more light! Oh how I love the pickling process of the wooden floors and cabinets! Dreamy, white, creamy, antique....what a magical tour you had and now share with us! Even her white climbing roses are a joy!
ReplyDeleteAny new ideas now, for your cottage?
i wonder if they call that piece a "dream catcher" or does it just look like one?

What a charming cottage! There is so much to take in, this is my second time visiting your post today. I think (for now) that my favorites are the crystals hanging above the table and all those doors! I love that and have toyed with the idea myself. Maybe time to revisit! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious home to visit! I can't imagine living there...so pretty, peaceful, and serene with the vintage pieces and subdued color scheme. I love it...of course I love all styles, that's the reason I have a hard time narrowing it down to one and just decorate with whatever makes my heart happy...:) Have a blessed day. Enjoy your walks on the beach enough for me too! I am needing some beach time!

Dearest Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhat a friend you are. Thank you for coming to dream today with me. I appreciate your comment on my post, for I'm finally inching my way to using my own photos. The header photos are mine from our dream trip to Italy, then did ya catch my image as I sat by the little stone arch in Vernazza, Italy? Then my tea set....oui, c'est trop beau - it's too beautiful, but it's true. We can make a difference when we extend our creativity to the world.
Have a fabulous trip, I'll miss you, and may Lulu be a GOOD LITTLE GIRL!!!! Anita
I love so many things about this house, I don't know where to start...oh, yes I do...the barstools are so unique.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I love real life photos vs staged photos is that it gives all of us the encouragement that we can do it too! Her home is beautiful, photos aside, she's done a great work! Thank you for sharing them with us. Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous home! Your pictures were great. Thanks for taking us along and looking forward to the garden tour. So very sorry to hear about your friend. Our world is a better place because of people like him and his family. Mimi
ReplyDeleteYour real life photos are fabulous!! Love Lisa's black, wrought iron chairs and of course, her apron sink - which I never got! Oh well, that is what blogland is for...to dream and vicariously enjoy such charmers via our blogger buds!
ReplyDeletePoppy

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour, Carol. Lisa's house is phenomenal! There are so many things to appreciate. Three things off the top of my head that I really love: the pickled floors, retro appliances, and barstools…well, really, her entire kitchen. I love the plate rack substituted for traditional cabinetry. SImply stunning!

It looks divine, all of the white makes it look so spacious and chic! A triumph!
