Our bedroom is fresh and new - all because of this unknown little girl.
One of the many items on my March "to do" list was to freshen up the bedroom with new vignettes on top of the armoire and the Expedit.
The shells on the armoire were the first change which led to putting buoys and beach buckets on the Expedit.
I was on a roll with a beach theme so I asked Steve to swap out the sunflower painting that had been over the armoire and he chose the little surfer girl.
Beach buckets, buoys and ocean themed paintings made me yearn for a change of bedding.
As much as I love primary colors, I was ready for simple white and blue in the bedroom.
The furniture on each side of the bed went from colorful to white.
Both pieces were painted with Annie Sloan, Old White, and I love the way the old colors of the vintage record cabinet came through after a good sanding.
I found the white bowls in the attic - long ago purchases at Big Lots.
Pillows I made from tea towels decorate the bed.
In the attic, I also found a light blue duvet cover and sham from KC's first dorm room, a chenille bedspread I had on my bed as a little girl, and a vintage tablecloth; did my dad bring the tablecloth to my mother when he was stationed in Hawaii during WWII or did they buy it on a vacation?
The painting over the bed changed, not by my choice, but because it sold last Saturday; Steve knew he had to replace it with another ocean scene.
Lots of little changes.
A softer palette than my usual with the chenille spread on the bed and the light blue of the duvet and shams.
And, if you think I am crazy for having so much white with a rambunctious puppy,
I have a few white quilts as back up.
So thanks to the sweet little girl dreaming of the ocean, we will have sweet dreams in our beach inspired bedroom.

You, my friend, are a busy, busy woman! You put me to shame~lol~~ I LOVE and miss the beach SO much!! I was raised in SoCal and was at the beach a lot while growing up. Now, being in the desert of AZ, I long for the sound and smells that the beach offers. I love the changes in your room! It's also nice to have a hubby who is willing to give you a hand every now and again! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and white.
ReplyDeleteWhite really is easy to clean.
The painting he sold almost looked like a photo! I like the one you have now with the mission too.♡
Your bedroom looks great. I love the white & blue that you used in the room makes it looks so fresh and Spring. It goes so well with the beach.
ReplyDeleteMary
I love how you can shop in your attic. You seem to find a lot of things up there. The change in your bedroom is charming, and yes, peaceful.
ReplyDeleteIt's like visiting Gidget and Moondoggie all grown up! I was that little surfer girl in my dreams once! Why not dream it again! Your new room is a breath of fresh ocean breeze! I love everything about your coastal lifestyle, Carol!
ReplyDeleteIt is always a treat to visit!

ReplyDeleteCarol, as much as I loved your room before; this is a lovely change! The beach girl picture was great inspiration. I adore your collection of sand pails! I have a couple, but not as nifty as yours. The painted furniture is so fresh and I too love the colors showing through. The entire room is just perfect for your cottage by the ocean! I will be doing a post on my bedroom soon. Can't wait to show off my new treasures! Thanks again and thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Forgot to mention that I have a set of those same bowls. Bought mine years ago at Walmart.

Jann
I love the softer palette! You are truly the Queen of "shopping" your home!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job redecorating it. Love how you lighten everything else. I just love that painting of the boats in the harbour.
ReplyDeleteCarol- That looks just beautiful- fresh and bright for Spring. I really love how sweet and serene it looks. That painting of the little girl is just darling. Hubby is a VERY good painter...Yours-not mine. Mine can't paint a wall without also painting himself...if you know what I mean! lol xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHow much fun to be able to shop in your attic. I love those old chenille bedspreads. My mother put them on our beds years ago. I wonder where they went.
ReplyDeleteLove the fresh new look to your bedroom.
Carol,
ReplyDeleteThe surfer girl inspiration painting is lovely and it's allure led to a beautifully serene and peaceful new look.
Even with two cats I've never regretted my choice of white bedding, thanks to Oxi clean!
The sand buckets are adorable. Sweet dreams. But with as much work as you do ... I wonder if there is time for sleep!
XO,
Vera
I love your pretty beach bedroom. I'm doing some decluttering, pre-redecorating and you've given me some ideas. Love a beach look.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteI love the white touches with the chalk paint. The vintage bedspread looks awesome. I love how soft and inviting the room feels. The bedding and the end tables soften the room. You still have your signature color on the walls with Steve's beautiful art work. Love this room. Very relaxing and inviting.
Kris
It has turned out great, I love the beach look .
ReplyDeleteMerle........
Your collection of beach buckets is wonderful! Great idea to have the rotating white covers for the bed! I've been thinking about pulling out some chenille spreads I have and doing something with them on my bed. Now I'm motivated. I guess you have to be glad the painting sold! That was a big one. You'll be able to eat for the next year! That little girl on the surf board is precious.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Carol. How special that you get to live with Steve's wonderful paintings. Love the little surfer girl!
ReplyDeleteHappy First Day of Spring.
Love the girl painting. Your bedroom sure looks nice and fresh. You've been painting like me quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteI love beach themed decor and the blue and white is so fresh. The painting of the little girl darling.
ReplyDeleteI love your fun, bright color palette, but this white and light blue room is just beautiful and very serene. Those white quilts and the freshly painted white furniture are so fresh and crisp! The white bowls and stack of blue books are perfect decor. You did a fabulous job my friend...love it! Have a wonderful weekend...Vicky
ReplyDeleteYour home is so colourful, I love it very much. You collect glas from the sea? I too! Wish you a wonderful weekend with sunshine.
ReplyDeleteSigrun
I have to do the same with the bedrooms of our country house.I like the fact that you dare changes and the outcome is perfect Carol! Well done, you are a gifted designer!
ReplyDeleteI already feel the summer! I adored the blue here, and amazing to join the room and explore the house. Well, it’s nice to know that the cabinets strike me most, absolutely awesome! I love the white lamp by the way, Classy!
ReplyDeleteSebastian Chuter
Your bedroom looks just amazing! I love all of your choices and how bright and cheery it is.
ReplyDeleteI love your artwork and the all the sea touches.
I want to be where you are right now, we still have mounds of snow to melt.
Thanks for sharing,'
Cindy
Your bedroom makeover is lovely with the fresh white and blue colors. The record cabinet that you painted with the Annie Sloan paint is beautiful. I want to try the AS paint on an old china cabinet if it ever warms up enough to use my garage to paint it in.... Candy
ReplyDeleteGood morning Carol! When I first saw your title, I thought, "I HOPE THAT'S FIGURATIVE SPEECH!" Hoping that you were not sad...and I can see it's quite the opposite!
ReplyDeleteYou have spun your magic once again with your painting skills. I love this Annie Sloan old white and I painted a wooden horse the other day. But the finish did not come out as I wanted because I was unable to buy the Annie Sloan wax, and used beeswax which did not give me the look. But your bedroom, YES YES YES....I am partial to white with a splash of color, so I am being bias here! But with your white trimmed windows, the pure white with the pop of color here and there makes for such a peaceful scene.
AND STEVE'S PAINTINGS....tell that man that he is genius. I'll never forget, ever, last summer when you shared one of his sunny paintings. It took me home.
Your room looks like a little vacation B&B! You are so lucky to have Steve's wonderful art!
ReplyDeleteYou have certainly been on a roll lately ! This looks so pretty !! :)
ReplyDeletewhat is not to love. i love the houseboat painting. so makes me wish to live on a boat. love the sailboat pillows, those shelves... so neat to keep changing up the items within those shelves. ( :
ReplyDeletethe wagon on the beside table are those pool balls or? so fun. i love how you have carried so much color throughout your home. so fun!!
I love the white and it lightens things up for the summer. I know what you mean about a dog and white though. We are going through the rainy season here so my dog always has muddy paws.
ReplyDeletePainting, sewing...you make it look so easy to give your bedroom a complete makeover. Of course I LOVE everything because I'm a big fan of blue and white. You've created such a calm, restful sanctuary. LOVE IT!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow, can I come and shop in your attic?? :-))
Mary Alice
I love the changes to your bedroom. And I also love how you just paint your furniture when the notion strikes to change your color palette. You are so talented!! ~Laurie
ReplyDeleteBlue and white is so calming and you have pops of color in the paintings. Love the little girl on the surfboard! So charming! Your husband is such a great artist! :)

ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful inspired room. Your blog always fills my day with colour :)
ReplyDeleteOh it's just gorgeous Carol !!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here laughing - because it's too funny that we all paint our furniture as the seasons change - our parents would have never in a million years thought of doing that LMHO. They changed curtains and linens but we take it to a whole different level lol
Everything looks so fresh and beachy and SPRING like - just beautiful!
Now I have to go to the post below this one because I'm mesmerized once again by something!
xox
Everything you do is fun! And I adore your pillows.

ReplyDeleteOne simple change always leads to another. I think the soft whites make Steve's artwork pop.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your lighter softer look. As refreshing as an ocean breeze.
ReplyDeleteI love the changes you made! I'm a huge fan of white bedding and white furniture, so of course, I would like it! I think bedrooms should be serene since they are a place to rest and relax. Yours looks like it is good for that now.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, your changes are wonderful. I loved it before equally as well, but it is always fun to change things around. A little paint and change of bedding and like magic you have a new room. Enjoy . . . your bedroom it looks so relaxing in the whites :)
