In my first post of 2014, Looking Back & Moving Forward, I said that 2014 was going to be "The Year of the House".
We had 3 major projects for the year.
I had no expectations of completing all 3 of the projects in the first month, but I think putting the goals in writing helped with our motivation.
By January 8, Steve had created a new tabletop from reclaimed wood for our existing table.
By January 14, our guest room was gone and in its place is the perfect creative space for me.
The biggest change, completed on January 31, was to have our cobblestone patio relaid.
February is shaping up to be a "month of paint".
I bought the cabinet a few weeks ago at my favorite local antique shop, American Home and Garden.
I like the lines, but the color is not right for my color palette and I also want to replace the handles.
This tall cabinet is going to get a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - Old White -followed by lots of sanding to bring out the different colors of each drawer.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep this old dresser in my workspace, but so many people commented that a new paint job and hardware will work wonders - I am leaning toward a minty green shade.
This little rocker has been loved by 4 generations (starting with my grandfather) of children and soon it will get a new coat of red paint.
February is a short month and 5 days have already passed so I had better get busy if I want to finish everything by the end of the month.

Wow! You guys have been busy and what wonderful outcomes you have shared. I love all the colours and intetesting things to be found in your home, just lovely: o))
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the end results as I'm thinking of painting my bedroom furniture rather than replacing it.
ReplyDeleteJill
Wow, you guys are on the move over there...........isn't it just the best feeling when you accomplish some things you have been
ReplyDeletewanting to get done...........
At my age I am finding that if it doesn't make it to my list it just doesn't have a chance of getting done. lol
Love your blue and white cabinet you found and can't wait to see how it looks and all the furniture looks after you paint them.
That is cool that you have a rocking chair that has been around for 4 generations.
Your hubby did a great job on the new tabletop, and that is so nice you have a craft room now and bet you are really enjoying that.............
Blesssings for a good rest of the week,
Nellie
I LOVE that you put your plans down in writing. YES....that is the way we learn, to write and plan. Then, to see what you have actually accomplished, Carol? AMAZING. I believe you are going to milk the month for what it's worth, and I cannot wait to see the minty green on that dresser! I BELIEVE you will do it so well!
ReplyDeleteNow off to school...Anita
I think it would take me weeks to repaint the dresser but I am sure you will have it done before the month is out! Wow, that is going to be work but it will pay off in the end. I can't wait to see all of these projects finished and up on the blog!
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas for those. Now, get to it.
ReplyDeletei love painting ... i can't wait to see what it looks like after you are finished. so fun! i love that chest. with blue drawers. i have to ask with a doggie how do you keep your white couch - white? i have always wanted a white couch but i would dare. i have a terrible time with spills. we have a black couch ... & that was the hubby pick ... i would have picked a more pattern couch. it picks up every thing ... hair, dust, any food bits ... i have to constantly vacuum. & i always thought i was a pretty clean person. have a good day!! ( :
ReplyDeleteYou two really have accomplished a lot already this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the painted pieces. I love painted furnitures!
I am so impressed that you finished your projects. I wish I could say the same. I love all your completed projects and look forward to seeing your paint jobs on the various pieces. Those green glass handles? Swoon! Love them and each of the pieces you shared. And your husband's gorgeous painting above the new chest is wonderful. You are both so talented, and that is clearly reflected in your home!

ReplyDeleteAnnie
You're amazing, Carol! I'd better sit down and make a list of what needs doing around here.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your February changes.
Karen
That's so inspiring that you wrote down the 3 goals and poof! they're completed. It's amazing what making a list can do for us. Love your new cabinet and can't wait to see all the pieces when you're done painting. I see Lulu managed to get in one of your pics and I see Steve has already painted her picture - she's such a little photo op! :)
ReplyDeleteMary
Sounds like you have alot of energy! I love what you did with your table. If you have time stop over and see what we just painted. My husband is a wood lover so he doesn't typically want to paint (or let me paint) anything that is "good" wood. But we just painted our first piece and it turned out amazing! Have a delightful day!
ReplyDeleteBusy busy. Really, I think your cottage should be in a magazine.
ReplyDeleteBusy BEE .. I love all your projects and your house. JUST beautiful. YOUR outside court yard area is just so pretty too. Have a blessed week my friend
ReplyDeleteYou are off and running, Carol! You've already done so much this year and I can't wait to see the changes you've got in store for us this month!
ReplyDeleteI love, love your old rocker. Can't wait to see the finished product. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow Carol, you have really been industrious... I have accomplished one small project I set out to do this year. I totally failed to do in January all that I had planned and February is getting a really slow start also... I think it's all these grey, ugly days we are having - excuses. I just need you to send me some of your energy... Can's wait to see what you do with each of these pieces - so exciting.. have a wonderful day... Cathy
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I'm confident you'll complete it all and will be looking forward to seeing your transformations.
ReplyDeleteI love everything you have accomplished! I was thinking a shade a green on that dresser too!
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteLove that you institute a plan of desire and actually in record time achieve it. You are always an inspiration my friend. Every visit to your blog leaves me with a big smile and feeling happy.
XO,
Vera
Love the old dresser especially the Shell and you've got me wondering what you will do with it. The 4 generation chair is soo precious. It is a Joy to be here and look at Color and your cottage made of art from the heart.
ReplyDeleteYou've accomplished a lot already! It takes me forever to finish big projects. Where do you get the energy!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are busy like me in the home. I am painting a few things too.
ReplyDeleteAll your finished projects turned out so well, now I know the painting projects will be fun too!
ReplyDeleteYou are getting so much done! And now we await the new paint stories!
ReplyDeleteEvery thing you have done so far looks great. Can't wait to see how you will do all those pieces. My gosh your husband art work is wonderful. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLove everything you have done so far and can't wait to see more of your projects. I want to paint some pieces and am very nervous about starting them, but I guess it really is just paint and can be changed if I don't like what I do.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cindy
No time like the present! I have loved each and every one of your projects so far and am looking forward to the paint projects you have coming up! I'm glad you decided to keep and paint the dresser in your creative space. It's going to be gorgeous in minty green! Have fun painting!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky
Whoa Carol. I couldn't get past your cobblestone patio, how have I missed that? I love-love-love it. You guys really accomplished a lot last month. And you'll have fun with those paint jobs. Your grandfather's chair will be perfect in red. And I was admiring that new cabinet from your fav antique shop. It's hard to tell the color of it right now, but I'm excited to see what you do with it. I couldn't help but notice how organized your creative space is...very impressive. I have the worst time keeping spaces tidy like that...what's your secret? :)
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy bees... .I am in love with that patio... And, that tall cabinet is going to be so fun with those colors peeking out from under the "new" paint. Love everything you've done... you've accomplished so much!
ReplyDeleteYou are so ambitious! I have quite a few furniture pieces I would like to paint but I don't even know where to start AND I hate painting indoors. Would much rather do it out on the lawn or in the garage when the weather is nice. Can't wait to see your finished products, especially that big dresser! My mom, at age 73 just painted her first pieces of furniture - bedroom dressers. They turned out gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are amazing, Carol. That rocker is SO sweet and it will be perfect in red. I guess I missed your cobblestone patio before, it's beautiful! Have fun with all your painting projects!
ReplyDeleteJeanette
Wish I could get so much done!
ReplyDeleteYou got a great pic of the garland!

Oh you have rocked it lady!!! Amazing what you can accomplish when you set your mind to something and write it down!! And I can not wait to see how this all turns out this month! Painting is so much fun!!! Happy weekend to you!!! Nicole xoxo

ReplyDeleteWow, you have done some amazing things! So very impressive! I'll be back to see more, know it'll be a treat!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Hi Carol, you have accomplished so many wonderful projects already. I love it all and your cobblestone area is exactly what we have to do to fix an old brick bistro side patio. This idea might just be what we need to do. The little chest you found is darling and when you finish with your touches it will be amazing. Love the large chest in your studio. Paint and hardware will make it perfect. You are one talented designer. Have fun and thanks for sharing and the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hugs
I can't wait to see that dresser in mint green! I can't quite believe you'll accomplish all that in February... Do you know it only has 28 days?
ReplyDeleteAll of that by the end of the month - oh good golly girl!!
ReplyDeleteWow.....you two have done wonders in the last month! Isn't that a wonderful feeling? I have my parents original round mirrored vanity and stool I want to paint black when I get out of this cast....also my grandmother's china cabinet from the 50's. I can't wait to see your redo's.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to see your projects as you get to them.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll do it, you always seem to achieve so much. Happy painting !
