Sunlit Cottage

It was a beautiful day in our little part of the world with the sunlight sparkling on my freshly washed windows.


The sun casting shadows from the mullioned windows on the dining room wall always makes me smile.


Karen at My Little House and Garden is doing a Sunlit Sunday party so I walked around the garden looking for something to photograph.


The yellow cabinet on the porch was bathed in both sunlight and shadows.


I am no photographer, but I loved the sunlight on the vintage window surrounded by shadows of our yucca trees.


I love the sunlight on the window from this angle.


This view out the door to the backyard is one of my favorite views in our house.


I must say that I had work, sunshine, exercise, soap and plenty of fresh air, but I think that today, my contented spirit came mostly from the sunshine.

    What a wonderful party, Carol, and what wonderful shots you have there. I love those mullioned windows. We had similar ones in a previous home that was Mediterranean Revival in design. Love it! Love your house!

    Ohhhhhhh Carol with our temps at 17 below zero and wind chill of 40 below I am just going to bask in your sunlight pictures. I think I really need to become a California girl! Could you send that sunshine our way. Looks heavenly.

    Your beautiful home is a wonderful example of the sunny cheeriness that can enliven a winter day. Like you, I'm always delighted with the way light enters a room and highlights certain features. (However, I don't have such beautiful windows with blue frames.) I'd certainly enjoy sitting in your dining room with a morning cup of coffee. Beautiful.

    for us ... we get some sunlight at different parts of the home in the morning ... it always changes. rain & a dark day really makes it oh so tough. i can only imagine living in a area that has even more darkness. i need my sun.

    Crystal clean windows are the best! I need to wash the bay window in our living room, but it's much too cold here this week. Your sunshine looks very inviting. Thanks for sharing these great photos of your sunlit cottage.

    Oh Carol, those photos are gorgeous and I'm guessing a comfort to the readers enduring the arctic vortex. We are just our typical gray winter Portland and nothing like so much of the country is experiencing.

    Oh Carol...your warm sunlight looks so good! Wishing I was there...we've had the coldest temperatures here. It is -11 right now with a wind chill of -38. This is the coldest it's been in 20 years. I'm just looking forward to Friday when it will be 40 degrees...that will feel like a heat wave after this bitter cold weather.

    Your first photo is my fave - the cushions look as though they are on a window seat - I would love to spend time there enjoying a cup of tea or a cool drink - my kind of spot.

    Great photos with the sunlight castng shadows. Fuel for my soul at -11 degrees/feels like -22 degrees, but that is a warm up compared to yesterday. I have to pin these beautious photos too.

    It's hard to imagine a sunny day here at the moment with endless storms and driving rain. I can see why your sister wasn't looking forward to returning to London at this time of year, but I guess we're lucky not to have all the snow and the really low temperatures.
    All we need to do is look at your sunny post to cheer us up !

    Carol I love popping by your blog and ever more so at this one ......sunshine ! I have almost forgotten what that is we have had rain every day for over a month here in the highlands. Our cottage has mountains behind and the sun will not peep over the top into our garden till 1st March. So have soaked up a few rays on this visit :-)
