Soleada is the perfect opening for this post.
Soleada (Spanish for sunny) is a boat owned by our friend Sunny and soleada serves as the perfect adjective to describe our day.
On Wednesday, the thermometer hit 86 degrees which is definitely not typical of a mid January day.
Steve and I were almost the only people on the water - no boaters other than kayakers were to be seen.
Majestic palms basked in the sun
as did a variety of birds.
A buoy is reflected in the water
as are two palms framing Two Tree Hill.
I often see seals swimming near me as I paddle, but this was the first time I got a picture.
I laughed at the irony of PACIFIC PREDATOR being docked next to PEACE.
The color of the water amazes me -all three of the photos above were taken at the same time, from the same spot, but looking in different directions.

Golly are your photos just amazing! I can actually feel the light pouring through them! And I chuckled too at the Pacific Predator and Peace...too funny! What a beautiful way to spend a Saturday! Your photos are amazing....the seals are adorable! The boats are just gorgeous....Love the shot of Pacific Predator and Peace! You have an eye for taking great photos but then you are surrounded by amazing scenery and perfect photo opportunities too. Thanks for sharing....I so enjoyed the adventure on this cold Florida day.

ReplyDeleteAHHHHHHHHHHHHH....I'll join you anytime my friend. That one day that I got to walk on the pier at Santa Monica was not enough. My husband does promise to take me to Carmel however, as soon as school lets out. BRING IT ON! All I want to do for that week we are gone is to walk on the beach, walk where the shoppes are, walk in the neighborhoods and hopefully snap some photos of the cottages, then walk more on the beach. We want to write and read at night and soak in as much of the sun (I know it will be chilly) but mostly, to breathe in the salty air.

Oh my gosh I'm just breathing in your beautiful sea shots. I live on a little Island in Canada and enjoy similar scenery (minus palm trees!) in the summer. Right now we're ice-bound. Thanks for a lovely tropical break!

Yesterday we hit mid50's on a gorgeous sunny day here in northwest Arkansas. I took quite a few pictures of the water as well. I love the winter sun & sky & how it changes the lake - a lot of my pics are similar to yours without the green & the seals. :o)

You take such beautiful photographs; I can almost feel myself skimming the water, watching the seals, and chuckling at the names of the Predator and Peace nestled side by side.

ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late with my visit, still down with the H1N1 flu. I loved this post, even with the choppy waters it appears clear and gorgeous. How amazing to have captured photos of the Sea Lions. I wonder if the Pacific Predator docked next to Peace in their boat slips cancels out the definitions of each name!

Your pictures are wonderful... even though we too, live by the beach (Eastern) we are having 35 - 50 degree days with a cold front creeping in upon us. We do have the beautiful sunny days but with crispy cool breezes that put quite a chill to the bone. Enjoy all that warmth and soak some up for us... Can't wait till it's actually comfortable to walk the beach again... Cathy

ReplyDeleteCarol, what great pictures. Love the seals - you are brave to be so close to them. Isn't our weather terrific. Yesterday I was able to pick about 2 bunches of roses for arrangements. Not as nice as first blooms in spring - but give the house a nice feeling.

I really enjoyed these photos - and I think you are brave to bring your camera on a kayak! Do you have a waterproof camera? I'd need one to get those shots!! ReplyDeleteOh I love the Coast .... any coast .... thank you for the memories of the Pacific one. I've noticed that way the ocean colors change with the light and putting the same spot different angles in a mosaic like that is a genius idea! All your photos are beautiful....

Two Tree Hill - we used to live in One Tree Hill a suburb of Auckland - sadly a protestor cut down the tree which a magnificent Monterey Pine. A soldier brought the seed back from Italy - although I know it is a native of California - just an aside Carol!!!
