October has been a month of perfect beach weather and we played every single day by cycling, kayaking, walking on the beach, etc.
And all that playing left little time for creativity.

Today I did something I have never done before and had a great time.
I received this beautiful invitation to an annual wine party hosted by friends.
When I told Jacquie how pretty I thought the invitation was, she asked if I wanted to join her at a card making class.
I have taken bookmaking classes and painting classes, but never a card making class.
Today Jacquie picked me up for a class at the home of her friend Martha.
There were 16 of us in the class and at each seat there was a cute little Halloween box (handmade by Martha) filled with candy.
The first thing I noticed in her beautiful home was an art piece on the wall which Martha explained was various tags she had received in a Halloween art tag swap.
I love all the 3 dimensional pieces
and how each person chose to represent Halloween on their tag.
I definitely need to find out how to join this swap for next year.
On the coffee table was another piece with various tags all made for Martha by a friend.
I'm not sure the theme for these tags, but I love the color and artwork involved.
Another fun Halloween piece hung on a wall with bits and pieces dangling from the bottom.
We made 3 cards in the workshop using a variety of stamping techniques -
a fun folding Christmas card,
a layered snowflake card,
and a masculine birthday card.
For $10, I walked away with 3 cards, a full tummy from delicious snacks and some new friends.
I ordered some supplies (which I do not need) and signed up for another class next month to make Christmas cards, candy boxes, a banner and more.
Rain is in the forecast tomorrow so I might just have the time to keep this creativity thing going.

I's always good to do something we have never done before and much better if it's creative.
ReplyDeleteMerle...............
Love the look of all the cards, I bet you had a fun time.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gathering! Such creativity and flair in your dazzling cards! I'd buy them in a second, not that you made them to sell, but they are really very special. Your description of the day really made me feel as if I were there, creating, chatting, munching on goodies and learning something new!

I love the idea of just doing something new for the first time. Sort of scary and exciting at the same time. I'm a creature of habit- so new has to have time to grow on me. I'm not as impulsive as I was as a young woman!
ReplyDeleteGood morning dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea of asking, "When was the last time you did something for the first time?" Brilliant question! Don't you love how people display their tags as art? I have to find a way to display the countless tags and cards I have received over the years, AND YOUR BOOK is in a place near me at all times my friend. Enjoy the cooler and grey weather...it's perfect for creativity. Anita
Very pretty cards and it certainly sounds as if you had a lot of fun! :)
ReplyDeleteGood to do something new! Quite a few unique tags there! Although I did cringe at seeing Christmas!!! The pressure begins!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love creative friends....so nice to share conversation and create!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun and so cool to try something you've never done! I used to make cards years ago. It's fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! And a great new hobby with new friends!
ReplyDeleteMary @ Ms. Redo
Each tag and card is truly a work of art. I wish I could find a club to join to make cards. It sounds like a very fun time. The plus is new friends. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time and a new learned art! Sounds like you really enjoyed the class and it gave me a lot to think about. Everyone needs to try new things! I love the cards you made also.
ReplyDeleteWhat FUN... I love it all. I want to get into that TAG swap.. Just keep me posted on how and when . Love that idea. I always cherish those things that I get from others. Have a blessed week . HUGS
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I told my hubby the other day that I wished I was really, really good at one thing but then I realized that I love being a dabbler and trying new things. I don't know if it is an attention span issue or a curiosity about so many things, but I think I'm embracing it now. Love how your cards turned out!
ReplyDeleteI like doing things I've never done before. I really love that Halloween wall - what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove your cards that you made! Sounds like so much fun too! I live near a store that has scrapbooking and card making classes, will try someday. I am actually involved in a knitting project now!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I love the pieces that look like collages.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good deal for so much fun and lovely creations at the end.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Classes are something I never seem to have the time for and have on my someday-list. Your cards turned out beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think this looks like so much fun! I made a few 'tags' last year for a Christmas exchange and it was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to make some new tags and maybe try some cards this year! Your's turned out great!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good time! Definitely join the tag swap - you won't regret it. I've done several and it's so much fun to see what everyone creates. I keep my tags hanging in my craft room and go through them sometimes to be reminded of various techniques and styles, and just to enjoy them again.

ReplyDeleteI made a bad grammatical error in my previous comment, so I deleted it and am starting over, lol. I'm glad you enjoyed your card making class - and I really like the cards you made. Fun, isn't it? I've taken a couple of classes in the past. I don't make a lot of homemade cards (lazy!) but I do have to make a couple either today or tomorrow and get them in the mail. My niece's birthdays are coming up. I was looking at birthday cards at Target last week and the decent ones cost $4 each. I refuse to pay that much for a card that's simply going to be thrown away anyway. And, homemade is so much nicer!
ReplyDeleteHow much fun!!
ReplyDeleteJudy
This looks like so much fun! I love that tag swap idea. It makes a wonderful display piece.
ReplyDeleteTags and cards and swaps, oh my!! You will love this! Remember to sketch the card faces you made in the class; that way you can easily reproduce them with other papers and embellies!
ReplyDeleteYour cards are wonderful. i used to belong to a craft group and we would make different things each week. It's fun doing things with others.
ReplyDeleteSarah x
What a fun party!!! How lucky you are to have that opportunity and that there will be another class next month!
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, what a fun party. Look at all the wonderful things you can make. I always love homemade cards and gifts. Your meeting new friends and having fun also, You go girl.
ReplyDeleteHave a Boooooooooooo week.
Mary
I like all the colors and creative styles, and now you will be making Christmas cards which will be gorgeous I am sure.
ReplyDeleteI did something new this year, I wrote some poems.
The tags are cool, so creative! What a great evening! Thanks for sharing, have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! My sister-in-law and I used to get together every November and make Christmas cards together, but they moved away and we couldn't do that anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a lot of fun! The cards look so good. I love the collages!!
ReplyDeletePam
What a fun party and it must have been great making the cards and seeing all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us and wishing you a happy week
hugs
Carolyn
Sounds like a lot of fun! I can't wait to see what you create with your new supplies. I love the creativity that went into the tags on display. A tag swap sounds like such fun! I'm afraid my creativity just isn't as amazing as some, but it would still be fun..:) Stop by and see what I made with some of the burlap you sent me soon! I posted about it yesterday...:) Have a blessed evening....Vicky

Don't you just love doing new things?!?! This sounds like my kind of outing! I just love the idea of making and mingling! A new thing around here are wine and art parties where an artist comes to your home and teaches you and your friends how to paint a painting while you drink wine. I like her tags that she got from that swap...they are so involved and layered! And your cards turned out beautiful! Happy creating to you! They are calling for rain here too...time for me to pull out the crafts for the beans!
ReplyDeleteI love the layered snow flake cards!
ReplyDeleteI haven't taken a class in so long and I need to get signed up for one! I've been invited to a knitting group and I'd love to join up, but I get home from work so late that I'd miss most of it. That's the wonderful thing about retirement, right? You finally have the time to do fun things!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear you had such a fun time. Those cards and tags are all so creative...nothing beats home made!
ReplyDeleteA Halloween wall of creepy tags; so incredibly creative. Plus, Halloween fun for adults! Great photos you took and the cards you made are so special and not anything like in the store. Happy Halloween Carol ~
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! I'm so glad you were able to come to the workshop. You did a fabulous job trying "something new". Your spirit and creativity are contagious! Looking forward to seeing you at the next one!
ReplyDeleteThose cards are beautiful Carol glad you are trying something new. Question...what color blue is on the stool in your header? It always catches my eye when I visit you.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteSo fun and pretty. Love the cards you made.
Kris
It looks like fun, what a great way to spend a few hours, and your cards are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI use to make cards and do more with paper, but lately it seems there's never enough time. I just finished my gallery wall and my ankle is killing me.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi Carol, This looks like a lot of fun and the cards are lovely.

ReplyDeleteWow, Martha's tags are fantastic! I love how they're displayed.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Good for you for trying something new! :)

I just had to scroll down a whoppin' fifty comments so I could post my comment - is your blog jammin' or what! I have been goofing off all month and pretty much all summer long too. I have had to really step back from my outdoor activities and work on organizing my house. Things function so much better when everything is organized. Your cards are really wonderful. It has been years since I have taken a card making class. There is always something to learn from someone else and it is good to make new friends.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to display tags. I have an obession with tags on Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a fun thing to go to the card class. Beautiful cards. No, you never have too many supplies.
Your cards look wonderful --you have great creativity. I'm a card maker but it's been on hold for toooo long. Maybe soon!
ReplyDeleteWow! Only $10. for that class? That birthday card with the leaves is gorgeous. Sounds really fun.
ReplyDeleteThe cards are awesome!
ReplyDelete$10 that's great.
Have fun!
