Using Up Canvas

Do you ever walk past the same scene day after day and suddenly realize that it needs to be updated?

This little girl is keeping us at home more since the vet told us no beach and no contact with other dogs for another 8 weeks.

After her outing to the vet, Lulu was tuckered out so she slept in the garage with me while I created something to replace the American flag wreath on the door.

I dug out some heavy canvas from my stash of Steve's scraps and sewed up a little bag.

My original plan was to do a reverse stencil with the words, but I couldn't find any alphabet stickers the right size.

I traced around metal letters with pencil and decided that for this little project, a Sharpie would work just fine.

Some thin lines were added for detail and then my bag was complete.

I broke my August rule of using what I have by purchasing the dried yellow flowers at Michael's.

Ribbon ties the bouquet together and the bee clothespin keeps the bag from falling open.

A quick little project adds some yellow to the front door.

Do you think when people drive down our lane they can tell that we like primary colors?

  1. Very clever and it looks terrific. Little Lulu is so darn cute and she is your buddy. Have fun with her.
My two dogs were rescued so they were not puppies and I missed that with them, but they are so loving and grateful. But puppies are like little toddlers always learning and into things.

  3. NO BEACH FOR EIGHT WEEKS? Oh Lulu, I can see the disappointment in those black eyes of yours!!!! teeheee...but what fun that she gets to sleep in the workshop! Oh Carol, I love the canvas look now! As fall approaches, the canvas keeps a summer feel but the addition of the dried flowers suggests autumn, and so subtly. Beautiful! How I love your red door....happy day dear one. Anita

  33. I know exactly what you mean about realizing you've been living with something that should have been changed ages ago. Like clutter! :) It's amazing how we become oblivious. Love the addition of the yellow flowers to your cheerful entrance!

  34. I had to look up what cest la vie meant of course. One of my most favorite color combinations is yellow and red so this sweet little change you made on the door is perfect.

  35. Carol,
Your red door is so charming. I really like the bag that you created. I wanted to thank you for your comment on my anniversary post. It touched my heart very much. I can't believe you've been married 42 years - that's wonderful! I always love to see pictures of your house. Michaels is one of my favorites too, and I go there almost every other week.

    Have a fun weekend.

    Love,

  36. Hi Carol,

Can this cottage get any cuter?! Love the use of canvas and flowers and red and white accent! Now, just to throw passers by off, why don't you hang a sign above your red door that reads something like, 'Welcome to Pastel Place'? Just a thought, just for fun...;)

I lost my little furry friend last year, and I am just not ready to replace her. We fit so well together, and I don't know if I have the energy to work with another furry friend. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful talent. Hugs, Karie
