Last Sunday when I spent 4 hours working in the attic, I came across lots of things I had forgotten I even had.
I found a quilt and pillow shams to redo our bedroom, white fabric for new bedroom curtains, and some great vintage tablecloths of my mother's.
I also found a denim duvet cover from KC's college days and knew just how I would use it.
I laid out my favorite white tablecloth on top of the duvet, cut around the tablecloth, hemmed the edge and VOILA! - I have a new tablecloth.
When I cut out the tablecloth, I ended up with 2 pieces and enough scraps to make a second tablecloth with a ruffled edge.
It was a beautiful sunny day so I set the table in garden using my fun new polka dot flatware.
The blue bucket was hiding in the attic and it was full of shells.
Steve barbecued sword fish and we sat in the garden enjoying the evening.
Tomorrow's project is new bedroom curtains.
And, creating a birdbath out of this rusted bucket.
Fun projects . . . free projects . . . using what I have.
What will I find the next time I go up to the attic?

Oh how fun to find all of those things. I love it when I find treasures.
ReplyDeleteThe tablecloth looks really good and your tablescape. I see the chairs yours looks so much better. My friend had stained them kinda rust to go with her safari theme. Looking forward to seeing your new curtains.
Enjoy the weekend.
Mary
Oh it looks beautiful Carol - but you just put me in such a state of panic here- I completely forgot I'm supposed to send Kris a post about myself - OMG - I'm hopeless really!
ReplyDeleteGoing over to check yours out now
AND thanks for the reminder
XOXO
SWORDFISH? I haven't had that in years. We can't get it out here in Minneapolis....but red snapper, swordfish and halibut were part of our diet back in the days in California. What bliss, Carol! The garden looks fabulous with your signature reds and blues, whites and sunlight to warm the moment.
ReplyDeleteENJOY YOUR SATURDAY! Anita
Beautiful table, love the colour and every details. Congratulations for your blog. Evelyne.
ReplyDeleteI love all your projects, you are so creative. Can't wait to see the birdbath. I adore your new flatware and the gingham napkins are perfect too:)
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, hooray for Steve's work being exhibited in the Ojai gallery! Do you think your 'molly maid' moves did the trick?! Secondly, your table cloth tweak is sweet, love the ruffles and love the peacefulness of your patio all set for dinner. Going to check out the Saturday Spotlight!
Happy weekend,
Poppy
That makes GREAT tablecloths and is perfect to show off your red pieces. Loving the girls featuring bloggers. None of Mary Alice's pictures are showing up for some reason- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYou are really on a roll with all your awesome projects this summer. The denim made a perfect tablecloth and I love the polka dot flatware with it! Sweet...:)Looking forward to seeing your curtains! Have a blessed Saturday....Vicky

Carol dear.....
ReplyDeleteYour comment truly made my day, and I'm not just saying that. I have been taking a poetry class that has challenged me and I have doubted my abilities; this post stems from a frustration yet a lesson learned about setting high goals. I want to write, but this class has humbled me and has tamed the WILD THING inside of me, to never quit, but to put my ambitions in order. What makes me happy is that YOU GET IT, and what is that? That poetry SHOULD do to the reader what you described. To become the reader's OWN meaning, to cause the reader to think and linger and revisit the thoughts in YOUR process. You have paid me a high compliment today, and now to take my blog post, put it on a blank page and rework it with NO photos, and hand it in to class. Let's see if it has any impact that way!
Many hugs and sunshine wishes! Anita
The table looks so pretty laid out in your lovely garden and I really enjoyed reading about you at Junk Chic Cottage.
ReplyDeleteAttic shopping is the best kind of shopping! And blue denim just gets better with age. Your projects make me think of the old WW II slogan to use it up and make it last, such satisfaction in completing a sewing project like yours.
ReplyDeleteHi! It is fun meeting new bloggers and reading about them! You sound like a very productive and creative person! Your blue tablecloth turned out so pretty! Reminds sort of like the color our blue curtains are hanging at the pergola. Nancy
ReplyDeleteHa! you are so funny. I love using what I have. This is a great table cloth. Love the setting--looks so cheerful. I can't wait to see your curtains.
ReplyDelete...I'm not allowed in the attic anymore, Pat
;)
Love it! and all those galvanized things are fabulous. What a nice display!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a lovely sitting area you've got there! What a smart idea to use your tablecloth as a pattern!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I have an old purple duvet that I don't use and I wanted a dark tablecloth for Hallowe'en, but didn't want to buy one... I guess you just told me what to do! I'm impatient to see your new curtains. I'm not much of a seamstress, so I love to see what others can do.
ReplyDeleteThere are just so many pretty things in your post, what with that and a trip to Junk Chic Cottage – perfect! looks as though you have found a wonderful place to live and lovely friends to share it with.
ReplyDeleteLovely back garden to relax in. Table looks very inviting. (House looks great too - been catching up on back posts)I agree with you about looking around the house and finding new ways to use what one has. Enjoy the day. Angels to you!
ReplyDeleteYou can shop a home like no other Carol! Cant wait to see what you do next! Just read the post on you, and learned many things I didnt know. What an amazing life you lead!
ReplyDeleteCarol, you have such a charming garden. I would never leave it! What a perfect place for a glass of wine or dinner. Your tablecloth turned out so well and a birdbath out of a bucket - I cannot imagine how your incredible, creative brain keeps coming up with these fantastic projects!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to use a duvet for making a tablecloth. I think I am really going to like the bucket birdbath. That's MY style.
ReplyDeleteThat bird bath is the coolest. And what a great use for the duvet. Hope you have a great day.

Just what I love-re=purposing!

I wish I was there for the grilled Swordfish.
I'm looking forward to seeing the bird bath
made from your galvanized bucket too-sounds cool.

I think I'd like to come shop in your attic and eat in your charming garden. Your table cloth is perfect...always good to be able to use what we have.
ReplyDeleteYou always have the most breathtaking wonderful "anything." I also like the white chair that kinda looks like it has a tulip design.
ReplyDeleteCould I come and shop in your attic too???? Looks like only awesome things must be up there :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the curtains! I need inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGreat tablecloth! You never know what treasures you'll find when you dig through your attic or basement (as in my case). Does that mean we need to purge?!
ReplyDeleteYou make me feel so deprived that I have no attic! LOL! We don't even have a garage! Yours is like a magic hat that you pull wonderful things out of. Love the tablecloth. Ruffles sound cute too! Love those shots of your place all spiffed up, and the yellow walls. I swear you have the cheeriest rooms on the planet!
ReplyDeleteI will jump on over! That birdbath is beyond cool lady! And taking that old duvet and making it into a tablecloth...seriously awesome! Why don't more people reuse things...just look at what you can do!!! How inspiring!!! You have given me some ideas for an old comforter that I have know idea what to do with....just wished you lived closer so that you could give me some quick refresh lessons on the sewing machine! I would pay you!!!! Cheers to you! Your garden room is stunning!!!
ReplyDeleteOOOO! Love, love it all. Amazing what we can do with what we already have. (Do I make sense?) Your yard looks so nice. . I love the blue table and all the cutzie things. Thanks for sharing. Karie
ReplyDeleteOh is that how you cut a circle for a tablecloth? I like that. Everything looks so pretty and you've inspired me to go hunting for things I can re-use too. This is shaping up to be a crazy month but when its over I plan on doing some purging around here.
