Hooray for the Red, White and Blue

It's time once again for the monthly Pinterest Challenge hosted by Cindy of Country Road 407.

I almost didn't do this month's challenge, but I really like the group of bloggers who participate each month and I definitely need to push myself to blog more often.

If you are clicking through the order of the group, then you were just visiting Benita of Chasing Quaintness whose take on the inspiration photo is lovely.

This month's inspiration photo from Mary of Home Is Where The Boat Is really spoke to me

because I am a lover of red, white and blue.

Before the styling of the garden bench, a trip to the nursery was in order.

Next I went to the attic in search of the bunting I bought at TJ Maxx last fall.

The pillow on the right (which is normally on a chair in the living room) was made by Emily of Penny and Ivy who uses old fabrics for her creations.

At this time of year I love tucking flags all over the garden.

The pitchfork was my grandpa's and it's a fun way to add height next to the garden bench.

I have had the little wooden soldier for decades and love bringing him out as summer begins.

Dragging all the patriotic decor downstairs is a bit like bringing the Christmas stuff down from the attic,

but all the red, white and blue will stay out through Labor Day.

So that's my take on the photo from Mary of Home Is Where The Boat Is and now it's time to send you off to visit Carol of Bluesky at Home.

and I do hope you take the time to visit all the blogs for patriotic inspiration.

  17. Super, super lovely, Carol! I love the contrast of those bright, yellow sunflowers with your red, white and blue decor. The pitchfork is sooooo cool! I just saw the painting American Gothic in Chicago last weekend, and I can't help but think of that. I can't believe you picked up that bunting at TJ Maxx, too. Don't you love finding treasures like that? Everything looks so fabulous together!

  18. Carol, I love the bunting flag swooped across the back of your garden bench! It just shouts, "Bring on the parade!" Everything is lovely with all the RWB and the huge yellow sunflowers/daisies in their sunny spot!!! I'm glad you have your grandfather's pitchfork here ~ such a nice way to keep family close. <3

    Happy spring to you,

  21. Carol, I adore Mary's style in all she does, but your version is fabulous too! I think you met the challenge with perfection. I love the idea of a Pinterest Challenge. I'm in need of some motivation to get back on the blogging routine. I published today, and sadly it was the first time since March. I keep saying I'm giong to get back in the habit of weekly posts, but don't.
You know I love red, white, and blue, so I'm adding some of these photos to my Horray for the Red, White, and Blue. I have my own patriotic things out now too. I love the look for summer!.

  23. Carol so sorry I am late to check out your patriotic decor but I am so happy to be here now! I just love how the bright red, white and blue fits in with your bright and happy cottage of full summer fun! I love your buntings and pillows and of course all of your beautiful flowers. The little vintage postcard tucked in the pitchfork is probably my favorite sweet touch. You always have the most awesome little treasures.

It was so fun joining you for the porch hop this week and of course this challenge too. Thanks for always inspiring me to use more color and to follow my whimsical vintage heart when decorating our home inside and out. I hope you have a summer that brings you many smiles and days of sunshine!
