For more than 40 years I have talked about visiting Descanso Gardens and it finally happened.
The grounds were covered in thousands of tulips in varying stages of bloom.
Tucked throughout the tulip beds were a variety of flowers ready to take over when the tulips are finished for the season.
The tulips were the main attraction, but the diversity of flowers was wonderful.
In the southern California drought,
seeing so much color and greenery
The Japanese garden was spectacular
and the variety of trees
surprised me.
Little creatures seem to enjoy the gardens -
my friend captured squirrels and bunnies,
but I had to settle for ladybugs
and busy bees.
I've already talked to my sister about meeting me at the gardens next month
mainly because I missed out on riding the train.

There is something so enchanting, EVERY YEAR, about a fully bloomed garden. It is to me, the elixir for youth because every year, I seem to feel younger. I do. I think nature has a way of rejuvenating not just itself, but us, when we see with new eyes. This is a spectacular place, never heard of it, but I know that a well-manicured California garden can hold such magic. Oh Carol, I can't wait for SPRING here!
ReplyDeleteWe've had an unusually cold and snowy winter here in New England, and nearing the end of March, temps are still in the 30's in the morning, 40's during the day. Our Spring is slow to come, your photos are so welcome!

What a wonderful place to spend a day! My husband and I love public gardens and seek them out when we go places. I always joke that I'd like to die and come back as a squirrel or bird in one of those gardens. :)

Oh Carol, the gardens are stunning. I haven't been there for over 50 years and I have been wanting to go. I will have to make a trip up there soon.
ReplyDeleteMy n-laws had a beautiful home in La Canada and would go by the garden to get to their home. My mil had a beautiful garden also.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning and I love that they have a train. Most gardens only have walking paths. It's nice to see that the elderly and the disabled can go there and enjoy the gardens, too. Tulips are one of my all time favorite flowers and this year it looks like I am going to have a fine display:) Thanks for sharing, Carol, your posts are always so enjoyable.

What beautiful gardens! I'm glad you got a chance to visit. We have the Chicago Botanical Gardens in a town about 40 min from us, and we haven't visited in 29 years. I think I'll put that on our spring/summer day trip list. We also have a beautiful Japanese garden that we visited a few years ago in the summer. I would love to go back in the fall for that one.
