Cutting Flowers & Creating Vignettes

The other day someone asked me what I do all day and I said, "I cut flowers and create vignettes".

I created a sweet vignette on a patio table using a new (old) window and a sign I found hidden in the garden beneath a bunch of greenery.

But, it didn't last long

because I decided to use the soup tureen for a bouquet of flowers from the garden.

A basket of flowers is actually a more practical display in the garden.

Every time I plant a hydrangea in the garden, it dies, so I have been keeping them in buckets and they seem to be doing okay.

The lavender is growing like crazy and spreading across the sidewalk

so I cut a large bunch and I simply placed them in a favorite enamel bowl.

My MacKenzie- Childs tea kettle got a fresh bouquet of flowers too.

I love the colors of the stool and bowl full of lavender so the entry way cart got an update.

Lovely linens and favorite flatware create a colorful vignette finished off with more flowers gathered from the garden.

I just found out that we have company coming today so it's a good thing I set out fresh flowers yesterday.

Now I just need to spiff up the garden before our company arrives.

  1. Dearest Carol, I could pick flowers and snap vignettes all day long too. In fact, I AM OFFICIALLY out of school and I have a feeling that I will be spending a lot of time in my garden, on the deck, at the parks, at the side of friends this summer. Why not? Life is to enjoy and make merry. GORGEOUS photos and the white, doesn't it clean up a photo? LOve it.

  4. My hydrangeas are growing like weeds, but it's my lavender I'm having trouble with. It's in a flower pot...maybe I should plant it in the ground. Your blooms are so pretty!

  8. Such a lovely way to spend your day. Your photos are getting better all the time. I miss having lots of flowers but they just aren't doing well this year for me. Oh well, I'll keep trying.

  9. your home and garden are so lovely, I would be doing the same as you. I'm afraid my husband would say of me, "she moves the dang furniture" and he would be right.

  11. Gorgeous! I love cutting my own flowers and bring them in. I think it goes back to my childhood and cutting Indiana wild flowers for my Mama :) Your garden has such a beautiful variety of blooms. Hopefully in a few years the things that i've planted will be abundant. I'm always delighted when you publish another post . . . Carol, you have that special touch and your home and garden are exceptionally beautiful.
    Happy Weekend!

  14. All of these are beautiful, but I think my favourite has to be the weathered basket with the red begonias and the sign which says, "Simplify." That one really speaks to me. xoxox

  21. Thank goodness you do, Carol, that way I can look at yours and not lift an untalented finger to try and replicate it in my house! Love your posts.

  22. Beautiful, Carol! I just picked a big bouquet of pink peonies that had been beaten down the rain. I plunked them in a white jug and they make the room. Enjoy your Sunday.

  28. I've been away so long it is ridiculous. Happy I got to see your MacKenzie pot and lovely lavender. Our Hydrangea is not doing as well this year due to me being clip crazy last fall and cut it down too low, but there are some buds on it.

  30. Carol I love your unabashed answers to questions like 'what do you do all day?' For me, it's easy to feel taken aback by that question. LIke I have to explain or justify. I know that sounds neurotic :) But on a side note, I don't think you can tell someone who doesn't have an artistic eye how much time it actually takes to create those vignettes and then to get a good photo too. I so appreciate your attention to details and your love of the little moments.

  31. Were you insulted when you were asked what you do all day? I've read that a good comeback for that question is, "All the things that you wish you had time to do." Ha ha!
Your vignettes all around your house are always so gorgeous...I don't think you ever have to worry about company coming by!

  33. Those are great containers for all the flowers. I wonder why the hydrangeas won't grow in your ground, ours sometimes suffer with lack of water but soon recover with a drink. Sarah x

  34. You're so lucky to have all those flowers in your garden to use and play with. So you grow the hydrangea in the bucket? You're so good at creating all the vignettes.
I'm sure your guests enjoyed them.
