a bit of an addiction ....

About 4 years ago, I saw cute Maileg wall hanging Pixies in a Garnet Hill Christmas catalogue and pinned them to my Pinterest Jolly Ol' St. Nick board.

It took me 3 years to find a Pixy and surprisingly, it was on Amazon.

I don't know his Maileg name, but I call him Olaf and he was my "gateway" Pixy - one look at him and I had to have more.

I found a cute story here about the history of Scandinavian Pixies or Nisse.

Maileg is a Danish company so I guess my Scandinavian (Norwegian) roots are showing in my love for these little creatures.

I felt like a little girl playing with dolls as I set my pixies out this Christmas.

They like to hang around the house

and pop up

in unexpected places.

Magnus and Maria fit perfectly in my grandpa's rocking chair,

I didn't stop at the Pixies.

I bought the mega Santa last year

and my sister recently gave me a mini Santa.

I'm gradually adding some mice to my collection

and just discovered the adorable pigs.

A band of Maileg ornaments

snuck into Steve's kitchen the other night and he didn't even notice.

You would think that I would be content,

with all the creatures I have,

but Wednesday I ordered one more Pixy from Maileg USA and by this afternoon, I expect to find 40" tall Henry chasing Magnus and Maria out of the rocking chair.

I just can't help myself - they are too cute.

What do you collect at Christmas?

  1. They are very cute Carol! I can see why you're smitten. I love how you surround yourself with things that you love. The older I get the less "stuff" I want sitting around unless it speaks to me. Hopefully your pixies don't "speak" to you though... LOL! Have a great weekend Carol!

  3. Carol,
These are just adorable. You have such a sweet collection. Love Magnus and Maria and their sweet glasses. Too cute. Your new Pixy Henry will be a wonderful edition to your collection. Just adorable. I bet you just smile to see them around the house.

  4. Too cute. It doesn't hurt that they all sport my favorite color of red! At Christmas the past few years I've found myself accumulating deer or all sizes, shapes and materials. Deer and the seasonal foliage, holly, evergreens and poinsettias are favorites too.

  8. PENGUINS, 4 or 5 years ago I decided I wanted to change aout my Victorian maroon and gold decorations to something more fun, we now have three granddaughters. So I started collecting all things Penguin. My husband says I now have enough, but every year I keep my eyes open.

  13. I collect gray hairs right about now! LOL! I try to make all my presents but I too fell in love with those Maileg pixies but I keep looking for a pattern as they are a bit pricey for my budget. Maybe I should treat myself to one each year like you? Yours are simply darling and it goes without saying that your decorating is superb!

  14. I adore those too! I once decorated my house for Christmas in a red and white scandinavian style and wanted those to go with it so bad. I have since moved on to a more neutral color palette, but I still love those pixies! I once saw some for sale in an antique store and thought, "where were you last year???" I'm so glad that you have increased your collection and even expanded it. I love the mice and the santa as well. Enjoy!

  30. Carol, they are adorable and would steal my heart for certain. A friend gifted me a mini one last year, and it is hanging on our tree. Years ago while in Paris, I bought two fairies. I need to see it they are the same company. They look very familiar. I've seen the two advent calendar dolls in catalogs and have been tempted. I'm headed over to the site now. This could be dangerous. '-)

  31. OH CAROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OK, wait...let me gather myself.....

I am and always will be, a Francophile. HOWEVER, I love all things Scandinavian too! And these pixies had captured my heart a while back but seeing them ALL together in your fabulous décor makes me want to start collecting! I just love that Santa and the goose! And I see you have a few little friends in a little wagon and a bottle brush tree.....don't these little things just grab your heart? I have not seen them here (and this is a Scandinavian-heritage place, Minnesota!) but if I see any around here, I must grab one. Absolutely gorgeous color scheme with the red, the light green and that shabby white. Glorious!

  47. Boy, you're living on the wild side letting Magnus and Maria hang out on a chair together... I'm not certain about the legend of the pixie but I'm sensing that they are just for Christmas? I would have a hard time putting them away - would be tempted to keep them out all year long. Methinks that you have a very whimsical heart.
