It's Doodle Time

I love our little cottage, but sometimes finding space to be creative is a challenge.

Most of my supplies are kept in the garage

and I have a desk in my little garden house,

but it has been too hot to work in either space.

The other day, I was cleaning the guest room and it occurred to me that this table could be functional.

 I love to doodle

and I decided that a doodling workspace in the house would be fun.

We don't have any company scheduled for awhile and even so, I don't think anyone would object to sleeping near art supplies.

I had some fun arranging things on the table to provide inspiration.

I bought this box from Betsy of My Salvaged Treasures and it's perfect for holding paper and other supplies.

A variety of pens are easy to grab

and I added a few books to spark ideas.

More books and pads of paper are stored beneath the table.

With supplies on hand, I am doodling more and

I'm even doodling on fabric!

I wrote Give Thanks in pencil on a scrap of fabric and then doodled around the words.

A little doodling, simple embroidery, a quick crocheted edging

and I have a little table runner for this month of Thanksgiving.

Adult coloring books are the latest trend, but now that I have the space,

I can just doodle my own drawings and then color them.

Want to come over and color?

..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..  ..

Now, I am headed over to

Knick of Time for the Vintage Inspiration Party

Cozy Little House for Tweak It Tuesday

  1. The doodling on fabric is so simple and lovely! What a wonderful idea to have a doodling corner you home made versions look so much better than the books! Sarah x

  2. Oh, Carol, I love your cottage too, and your doodling! What a pretty runner you made. Isn't it amazing what a little carved out space will do for the soul and creative spirit? I love how you use every inch of your cottage, and multi-task the space. That's proof that one does not need a huge amount of space to be happy. I hope you have a great week.

  10. Oh, how I used to love to doodle, colour, paint and draw! I used to have a blast doing those things for my kids when they were growing up. I miss it, and my kids when they were little! I have a lot of artists in my family and it's interesting to see how it was passed down from one generation to another. I got my mother a colouring book and she tries to colour the best she can. She has Parkinsons now but she was a very good artist in her day. Only one of my kids got the gene but the other two are gifted in other ways. That is a cute table that you get to 'doodle' on. Thanks for sharing and enjoy this first week of November, Carol.

    Autumn blessings,
    Sandi

  20. Doodling is something I enjoy, but I have to have the time, and that's not available just now. One day... Meanwhile I'm enjoying other things. I have that Doodling in French book - it's inspiring, isn't it?

  22. I'm glad you found a doodling space! In small house it's hard to find them. and all my tables always seem to have stuff on them which drives me crazy! As a little girl I liked to paint, and i would always ask for a paint by number set. Mom always bought the "velvet" ones, and I can remember a house I did. I think my problem is I have tooooooo many things I like to do! To have such a problem. You are most creative and your doodling is ever so pretty.

  31. I have not DOODLED in years....I guess I could say that I doodle with words when I can, instead of images, but what FUN my friend! And to designate a specific space for this, you are brilliant. I so love that table setting. It's so simple, warm, and bright with your original creativity. How you'll set up the house and table for the holidays is going to be a TREAT! Enjoy your day, Anita

  32. Very, very, very inspiring and colorful, Carol. Love your ideas. I love this time of the year when blog posts are inspiring me to pull out creative projects for gifts. I have sooooooooooooo many color pens and could doodle right along with you so since I can't come over to your house, I'll pull them out and set up a spot on the couch in front of the TV and doodle while it rains, and maybe snows, here in Northern Arizona. I definitely don't live by the sand and sea. Thanks so very much for sharing your artwork with your blog viewing audience.

Tried it when I was first married and I did it too tight. I need to try again. Great idea to use the desk in the guest room. I shared the creating Christmas image on SYC this week. Hop over and copy it and add a link to your own blog to place on your side bar. I'd love if you could do a post some time letting people know about it.

  54. Good Evening Carol, I love doodling and you can always find a doodle on my writing pad when I have finished talking on the phone. It's not that I am not paying attention, but there is something comforting about doodling and chatting.
I remember I used to doodle in my teenage years and I used to colour parts of the doodle in black..... very pop art.... black and white.
Do you know, I have not come across many people who write their capital 'G's and 'T's the way I do..... but I notice you do..... and Give Thanks is a wonderful doodle.
    With warmest wishes.
