Do it already!

In my early days of being on Pinterest, I came across this quote.

via

I decided then and there, that I would actually follow through on ideas that I had pinned.

Recently, I created a board on Pinterest titled, "Do It Already!" and I have been trying to do one or two of the projects each week.

Yesterday's project was to alter this chalkboard

to look like this sign I pinned from  Town and Country Living last Christmas.

A couple of years ago, I painted a mirror with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and turned it into a sign.

For the last year, the BEACH sign sat in the garage until I turned it into a chalkboard for Aylin and Joshua's wedding.

One week after the wedding, the chalkboard went nautical for a baby shower.

Getting the right shade of green was the most difficult part because the green chalkboard paint I found online turned out to be a mint green.

Writing on this chalkboard was easier than the others because I gave myself lines.

I didn't want to copy Jennifer of Town and Country Living completely so I separated my upper and lower case setters and added numbers.

The chalkboard will be used at Christmas, but I wanted to show my sister who arrives for a visit today.

Flash cards dress up the chalkboard and a box of quotes seemed appropriate for the vignette.

I need to finish creating one quote card for each letter of the alphabet.

But first, we have to finish redecorating the kitchen which is inspired by this kitchen on my "Do It Already!" board.

Pinned from

The shelves are hung, but both the walls and the shelves need a fresh coat of white paint.

The pendant lights arrived yesterday - now we have to wait for the electrician to rewire the ceiling.

After my sister's visit, our pantry door will get a facelift of a full chalkboard.

Pinned from

Steve has to okay every change I have make in his kitchen and he likes the idea of a chalkboard to write his grocery and To Do list on.

We are off to San Francisco next week to visit our daughter and one more item on my "Do It Already!" board will be completed because we have reservations at Chez Panisse and we are all excited to finally eat there.

So, I am curious about my blogging friends - are you on Pinterest and do you do anything with what you have pinned?

  1. Carol.
Love your recreated blackboard. A door blackboard in the kitchen is so useful, I love mine, it's a bifold door to the laundry room.
I have followed Alice Walters since the early 1970's - enjoy Chez Panisse and San Francisco.

    1. We wanted to eat at Chez Panisse when Joshua graduated from UC Berkeley. His roommate, Brian, worked there all through college - Alice Waters sent Brian on a European internship one summer. Joshua was young then and didn't realize he needed to make reservations. We are excited to be experiencing it now with KC and her boyfriend.

  2. Oh Carol, you know that I do not claim to be creative at all. I would really like to do the things on my Pinterest boards though. There's so much inspiration out there!

  3. I'm on Pinterest - a lot - but admit I mainly use it for ideas, not to necessarily do what the original creator did. Keeps my creative juices flowing. Inspires me to do *something*.

  4. I am totally in love with your "Back to School" chalkboard! I am terrific at pinning on pinterest, but don't really accomplish too many pins. Basically just the shower ideas and recipes get done.

  5. So cute! Love all the Pinterest photos too, especially those mailboxes!

    Enjoy your trip xox

  6. Good afternoon my friend! First of all, today was my first meeting back at school, but was a short one. The weather is outrageously beautiful, tomorrow is our first MANDATORY day back to work in the classroom, so I am taking the rest of the afternoon to simply BE inspired, as I am here.

You did an incredible job of not copying exactly the original green board, but getting the basic look and adding your own twist. I LOVE IT. I have been on Pinterest for years and let me tell you, my home has changed a great deal in design thanks to Pinterest! I have decluttered and redecorated thanks to Pinterest. I have done some small projects and baking from this source, so yes, I've done a few things! But I have to say that I found my true art form that I want to perfect: PHOTOGRAPHY. I needed something to accompany my love for language and writing, and photos are the way to go for me. Now that I'm back at school, I'll have to get really creative about what and how and when I'll be taking photos, however! But inspiration comes in many waves, and I love that all of us have some interest to pursue. YOU ROCK, you know! XOXOX

  7. You are quite ambitious Carol. I love the chalkboard and the creations you have on tap! I can't wait to see it all when it's complete. Enjoy your trip and your visit with your sister.

  8. I use it mostly for recipes and usually make them and keep or toss as appropriate. And I use inspiration boards if I am planning to do something. But then I also just collect pretty pictures! Have a wonderful visit with your sister!

  9. The chalkboard turned out great. Yes, I am on Pinterest. Love it. I have done some recipes and projects from there. I saw a little giraffe and a knit hat on there and got the patterns. I also do a lot of drawing and have a lot of Zentangle pins to inspire me.

  10. That's a great idea to create a board called "Do it already!" I really started to get into pinterest before we moved looking for new ideas for our new house and garden. Although I have used many of the ideas they are still many that I haven't got around to doing or are no longer feasible! I loving using it to find new things. Sarah x

  11. What a great plan to actually *do* the things we pin. I vow to at least make a few of the recipes I've pinned and I fully intend to implement some of the wedding things for our 30th anniversary party next year. I love all your projects. Enjoy Chez Panisse and if you're coming through Carmel on your way up or back, let's meet up! jonni

  13. I go in spurts! There are so many things I want to do and all of a sudden, I'll do several and then go months with doing none. I am going to try to do better. What's the use of pinning if you don't do some of them, right?

  15. I HAVE done some Pinterest projects... but I haven't made a separate board for any of them. I should probably do that so i can see the completed list. It would probably inspire me to do more!
I like the DO IT ALREADY! phrase...
My word for the year is just "DO." It seems to be working for me! I'm going to college!
Have fun visiting your daughter and enjoy the restaurant.

  16. I pin in spurts and this year I hope to use some of the holiday ideas I've pinned. I love this chalk board and how you are doing some of your pins! Great idea to make a pinterest board for that!

  17. I make, cook, & recreate a lot of the things I pin! I think I need to create a board titled Tried It! I like your idea too though. I need to go through my boards and pick out some of the things I want to make or cook and add them to it. Love all your ideas!

  18. I REALLY love your new chalkboard! I love the old school green.

  19. Pinterest is a guilty pleasure where I spend WAY too much time. It has kind of replaced flipping magazines for me. Sadly, I cannot report I have completed projects on my inspiration board. That will be for retirement!

  20. Yep, I'm on Pinterest and nope, haven't followed through on a single project, yet. I saw a screened door used as a pantry door, once, on Pinterest. I really thought about doing that, but still thinking I guess.

  21. Yes, I' on Pinterest and my intentions are always good, but I forget to post them. I am going to try and do better. Love all the wonderful project you take on and finish.

  22. I do love Pinterest but have only completed a couple of items on my boards. I can't believe how much you accomplish in a day! You are definitely a gifted and hard working woman! Love your 'borrowed' chalk board ideas! Enjoy time with your sister and your trip to SF! Blessings, Cindy

  24. I pin in spurts and use my pins for inspiration. There are many things I'd like to make and do, but time doesn't allow. I rarely make something exactly like the pins.
    The chalkboard is wonderful!

  26. I occasionally do something that I have been inspired to do by Pinterest, but not often enough!

  27. Yes, I am on Pinterest and often wonder why. While friends talk of followers and repins and its social aspects, I have decided it is an on line clipping folder of yesteryear for me. I have to admit we had plans for our Greek house kitchen that went flying out the window thanks to a photo I found and pinned to my decorating board. We found a Tuscan kitchen that was exactly what we wanted and used that photo to change our entire focus on the project. High impact!

  28. Pinterest is my favorite social medium....I love it! I do try recipes from my boards, and I've tried several projects. One of my boards is Projects I'd Like to Try! Nice projects you've chosen. I want to see your chalkboard paint in your kitchen!

I have tried some of the things I have pinned. Although, I do not go to Pinterest very much...not sure why! You have inspired me to get back into it.

  30. I mostly use Pinterest for inspiration. If I made all the quilts I have pinned on Pinterest and in books and mags I would have to live to well over 200. LOL Debbie

  32. Omigoodness Carol! I LOVE your penmanship chalkboard!! You are so resourceful and I love your idea of a "Do It Already" board. I also love your kitchen inspiration photo.

  33. I love the projects you have done so far and are working on currently. I can't wait to see your kitchen when it's complete! I don't pin many craft ideas on my pinterest boards. I mostly pin rooms that I like. I love finding inspiration from color schemes to furniture layout and the way the room is styled.

  34. Hi Carol, first thing: a husband that likes the idea of a "to do" list, you are truly blessed. second: you are multi-tasking to the fullest, checking off your Pinterest idea board, re-doing your kitchen, traveling, and blogging! You certainly found the wind in your sail! And finally: The kitchen redo will be amazing, already love the changes. Does this mean your wood cabinets will be painted white-ish as well? Love the pie safe, scale, open shelves and glass canisters. Have a terrific time in San Fran.

  42. Love your projects! I'm a prodigious pinner, and enjoy looking through my many boards and admiring what others have created. Occasionally I'll make something based on a pin or use an idea or recipe. It's certainly handier than having folders full of pages torn from magazines!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I admire that you actually do what you've pinned for inspiration... I don't pin little projects for now (it would make me crazy not to have time to make them), but I pin a lit of inspiration for the remodel of Cottage.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm afraid I'm one of those who Pin and forget, Carol. I do pin numerous photos of whatever I'm working on at the moment and go back for inspiration when I run into problems. I'm impressed with all the projects you've completed and your schoolhouse chalkboard is adorable! You'll love your chalkboard door for grocery lists! I painted our pantry cabinet doors with chalkboard paint years ago, and we love it for making lists or leaving notes to each other. Enjoy your fine dining experience!

  45. Actually I have done a lot that I've pinned. But sometimes my pieces end up very different than the inspiration. That's OK by me since I actually DID something. Have a wonderful time with your daughter and I'm dying to see your kitchen!

  46. I love collecting pins and getting inspiration, but my pins are so numerous that there is one way I could complete their ideas, yet, they do inspire me in so many ways . . . an amazing source of ideas. I'm a very visual person and seem to have a need for visual stimulation . . . Pinterest feeds my creative soul, I love it :)
    Enjoy our reservations . . . yum :)

  47. I like the ideas you have for Steve's (lol) kitchen. I do use ideas gathered from Pinterest. Besides my regular boards I have specific room boards for our home that I mark secret so that I don't have to wade through the bigger boards for specific ideas I plan and do use. Have a great week.

  48. I try not to get on pinterest too often because I end up staying there for hours! I loved the quote on the pantry door...too funny. I chalk board painted our pantry door last year which is the first thing you see when you enter the kitchen. I love it. Right now it has all these names of friends who visited this summer....like "Lynn was here" or "Ava was here". It's fun.

  52. San Fransisco has some of the best restaurants in the world or at least I think so. I need to visit there again one day soon and try that place. I hope it's great :)

Al your projects are really cute. I'm not a crafty girl, so I don't really try anything like that, but I do make a lot of recipes I find and I also end up doing some version of the decor pictures. Eventually anyway lol

Our pantry down in the dungeon doors are done in chalk paint...i can keep an accurate count of what i have and need. After this summer and so many projects I don't wan to just do it, I want to just do nothin!

  58. Carol, I absolutely love both yours and Town and Country Livings chalkboards. The little banner is perfect for Fall. I have a board I titled, "I want to do that". I've done a few of the things, but need to do lots more. I have wanted to paint my pantry door like a chalkboard ever since I saw Kris's from Junk Chic Cottage. I actually have a guy coming on Friday to see about painting all of my doors and trim white. After that I will get er done! lol! Have fun in San Fran. We love going there! Thanks for sharing your talent with SYC. I will be featuring you this week.
